First topic message reminder :

Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.

The Pub has made its way to Taihape - The Gumboot Capital of the World!

http://www.taihape.co.nz/

We also welcome our newest member, Amber Dog ...who no doubt will have an interest in those boots!

The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Aaron Smith, Topsy Ojo, Jason Shoemark, Tom Rees, Gonzalo Garcia, Leo the Leinster Lion and Lalakai Foketi up on the wall.

You seen this lucky?

I really do hate the Beeb's writing on Wales players leaving though, sure some international players, Welsh and non Welsh have left, but it was hardly a "host".

Dreamer, I agree with this:

"If that type of assistance is available then I hope it will be made available to us and not just the Blues, the Scarlets or the Ospreys."

But ultimately it's up to Dan himself. I'd hate him to be tied to us if he'd rather go to France or wherever.

Well aye, if it's going to be done for one region, it's got to be done for all. I'd be surprised though if the Dragons couldn't offer him a decent contract through, they surely must have enough money under the salary cap to do so?

This season for the Scarlets it's not so bad, only really Smiler, Owens, Scott Williams and Knoyle out of contract. Next season is the tricky one, we've got North and Priest and all the rest of them needing contract renewals!

Tis a tricky time for everyone I guess.

What would really make my blood boil is if one of the other regions got financial assistance from the WRU to sign Dan Lydiate from us, or Toby when his contract's up. I'd be beyond furious if that happened.

I can't see that happening Lucky, and I dont think Dan would want to play for another Welsh region, would he? He doesn't strike me as a Phillips or Byrne type palyer, plus he needs to be close to his farm.

It depends how much of a say he'd have in it. That's the potential problem with central contracts.

Aye. Personally I don't want us to go down the central contract route. The WRU get enough of the players as is, without having more control over them. (I'm still seething about having an extra blydi international match again this Autumn steam )

The playwright Joe Orton used to do that kind of thing. He'd borrow textbooks from public libraries and paste obscene sentences into it, then return the book and wait for it to be discovered.

EDIT: I was half-right:

She could have been referring to Umbria mate.
Spoiler:

Umbria is bordered by Tuscany to the west, Marche to the east and Lazio to the south. Mostly hilly or mountainous, its topography is dominated by the Apennines, with the highest point in the region at Monte Vettore on the border of the Marche, at 2,476 m (8,123 ft), and the Tiber valley basin, with the lowest point at Attigliano, 96 m (315 ft). It is the only Italian region having neither coastline nor common border with other countries.

Luckless Pedestrian wrote:Well it's cheating, plain and simple. It's against the spirit of the game. I agree with Tony Pulis that they should review cases of diving and issue retrospective yellow cards / fines. Players only do it because they can get away with it. The same goes for swearing themselves hoarse in the referee's face - it the FA genuinely wanted to stop it happening, they could. Yellows for dissent, two yellows, on your way. It would only take a couple of weekends for the message to get through that it won't be tolerated.

But how can they do that? Take the Suarez dive this weekend. It was an awful dive, but in the first instance about a second before he flopped to the ground, he was fouled. Should he be rewarded a retrospective penalty kick for that and the one where that defender (Norwich?) clobbered him on the back of his head? I'll grant you he can be a diver, but he is also not getting stonewall penalties given to him as well.

Of course, his reputation preceeds him. I have never liked him since his "Hand of God" against Ghana in the WC, where he lost me money on a Ghana win.

Well I suppose if they issued retrospective yellows for dives, they should also give retrospective yellows to defenders who foul strikers and no penalty's given.

Where would it end though Lucky? They could end up playing the game without officials and then retrospectively refereeing it and adjusting the result accordingly.

Actually that might be worth a try ........

The point is that if someone's cheated and there's footage to prove it, then they shouldn't get away with it just because the match officials missed it.

Lucky –we will not have time to have a pint after the game. There are only two trains we can get back afterwards and we will be ordering a cab to get us to the station to hopefully get the penultimate train. Even that will (following a bus ride on the ‘hoodie express’ to Harrow) have me rocking up in my local high street at nasty o’clock, when all the bad guys are about.

What time is your ETA at the ground, assuming that is where your coach driver is taking you? The only chance we’ll have of meeting up for a yack will be before the game.

ETA at Adams Park is quarter past seven. Is there a clubhouse at the ground?

Pretty bloody brilliant if it can go ahead Smile

Af'noon all. That's a great idea – not sure what they mean by 140 years of history though. I mean, we’ve only had regional rugby for 10 years …………….. Wink
