The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Dubai دبيّ
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The pub has made its way to Dubai, host city for the upcoming round of the IRB Rugby World 7s.
Visitors are reminded to dress sensibly and carry their working-'holiday' permit with them at all times and if possible; engage in their sinful drinking habits within the smoky confines of the underground "English Pub". We have more big screens than you could ever dream of...
If you need to go for a swim at the beach - application forms for towels and umbrellas are available at the bar.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Ricky Ponting, Bradley Davies, Andrew Hore and Craig Gilroy above the bar.

He had one fantastic game for us in his last season and I really thought he had turned a massive corner but he didn't seem to kick on from it.
Was he doing well? Still giving away penalties like sweeties at Christmas? Is his contract up this year or does he have another?
No MrsP, I was told of his "penalty machine" reputation when he signed, but it just hasn't materialised at all, he was a great carrier last season, had a massive workrate and hit as many rucks as any of the backrowers, his lineout work was also excellent although that didn't seem to be a big part of his game prior to his arrival at Bath.
The Caldwell and Attwood pairing at lock last season had many Bath fans concerned that the club was angling for a shot at the 13 man game But they were very well-disciplined and feirce as feck with it, I really liked them together, but Hooper is back as first choice, and through his lack of availability, Caldwell has fallen behind Hooper, Attwood and Day in the pecking order, his contract is up in May so he may well be looking for more regular football somewhere else. I'd like to see him sign a new deal with him, Attwood and Day being our machday 3 next season though, so who knows.

Santa is a fictitious character, invented by Coca Cola, loved by kids(young & old) all over the Planet. He drops gifts down chiminiees every 24th of Dec.
BTW, I was only joking son. He does exist.
We have the original here though. Sinterklaas. He is coming up the river from Spain on the 5th! Yo! I love Sint.

Glas,
It rained a lot.
Quite a lot of mistakes.
Ulster scrum very dominant but were penalised a few times near the end for reasons best known to Mr Fitzgibbon despite driving forward.
Your kicker missed a couple, we missed one.
We scored the only try of the game, an intercept from Andrew Trimble.
Dan Tuohy got a yellow for not rolling away and I think we scored 3 during that 10 mins.
We won but your kicker slotted over a penalty from a tricky angle right at the death to salvage at LBP.

That's the beauty of it bud. You don't need a phone. Just talk through your PC. It uses the Net, via a protocol called VOIP(Voice Over IP). Do you have a lapdog or a Desktop PC? All lapdogs have microphones in. Desktops need a Webcam/Speaker. But if you also have a Webcam... man... Its handy to have a headset (headphones with microphone inbuilt). You can get them for less then 10 eura.

Gobby,
Weeuns all grand.
All the exams are over for all but P1 who has mocks just after the hols so nearly everyone in distinctly festive mood. The School Christmas fair was yesterday so it's all started!
Both P2 and P3's team drew yesterday but P2 getting frustrated with the 10 man rugby.

Ah lovely. Ive been in Chez Poisson just before Christmas. Your house is magic all year round, but pre-Christmas... Hows me little bud?
Tell P2 to watch Leinster. It will make up for playing & watching 10 man rugby...

Thank you. I was in Tumble (8 miles from the stadium) in the same rain. It was a roller coaster of emotions.
The four year old boy who was sent to fetch a lolly in his pyjamas with no socks on. The Downs child who had his photo with Santa. The people in the smaller houses giving more than those in the bigger houses (in some cases actually more, not just as a proportion of disposable income). Excitable kids not knowing what to do first. People hiding from you (I'd rather a 'no thank you'). The news that we were 'all over Facebook', realising this meant people thought 'hang on I can get rid of those coppers now'. Being propositioned by a drunken 60 year old in exchange for a lollipop (that would not have been so bad, but I was in her wedding a couple of weeks ago) calling next door to the girl that answered the door in a towel and invited one of the lads in.
£550 in the bag though for local charities.

Sure they had Jackson and Gilroy at their training session this week. What could they learn from Leinster?
He gets to watch plenty of running rugby he would just like to get to play some too!

Your little buddy is just great. So grown up now. Was asked to join the school choir and then choosen to be in the video they have sent as an entry for a local chior competition.
I suspect I will need a wee box of tissues come their concert.

Prop man, get your Dub air-tickets early. Or go via Belfast. The prices will rocket for that weekend. For hotels and flights.
Chef is coming to Dublin for the Ireland France game on 9th march. He is bringing 6 of his Frog mates(Ive met them, sound geezers).
Anyway, he booked the plane-tickets way back. Got them for a 100 eura. Now? Over 500. Madness. Hotels are the same. And its in March FFS.
8 of us will camp in my Mams house for the weekend. That should be fun.

How's your day been so far Glas? ? or ?
I still feel for you and all the other Wales fans. We don't deserve that winning streak. They did just enough each time and most of it was depressing to watch - from both sides.
I think you handled it all so well. I've been down in 'the valleys of frustration' too watching some miserable Wallabies performances... it even makes me feel ashamed to be following them sometimes! Bloody embarrassing stuff...
Anyway, just wanted to say I had a little discovery of wildlife helping move some junk on Sunday - some of it dated back to the 50s & 60s - from Mum's place (she'd rung council and booked it) which is up the road a bit on the edge of a huge National Park.
It was boiling hot on Fri/Sat (41/42) then a cool change ... just like that song... we had some good rain and everything's 'steamy' but cool at the same time.
As I was moving some chairs I noticed a giant cricket... it had massive jaws and it's antennae went on forever. Then, I suddenly noticed this really ginormous huntsman spider.
It was pretty sleepy? so I just grabbed a stick and it climbed up on it like a puppy (it was beautiful really) and I walked us over to some "funnel web territory" and she (large abdomen) just calmly disembarked.... walked about 1/2 a meter then turned back and waved at me.
I had made another friend
I sort of realised that although we live with all these creepy things some of them can get an unnecessarily bad reputation and should be treated with more respect.
Those ants are another thing though.... I accidentally uncovered some BIG communities.

Linebreaker,

Just like to say in advance of tomorow's interview that the UKBA employs a lot of very talented, wonderful people
I got a phone call this afternoon calling me in for an interview tomorrow too.
Good luck with yours, Kiwi!

A good pool stage draw but a hard quarter-final draw.
Winning the group would give us a likely game against Argentina. Runner-up means we're likely to play the All Blacks who have never lost a RWC Pool game.

NZ get yet another bye in the RWC. How much do they pay for this service?
