Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.

The pub has made its way to Dubai, host city for the upcoming round of the IRB Rugby World 7s.

Visitors are reminded to dress sensibly and carry their working-'holiday' permit with them at all times and if possible; engage in their sinful drinking habits within the smoky confines of the underground "English Pub". We have more big screens than you could ever dream of...

If you need to go for a swim at the beach - application forms for towels and umbrellas are available at the bar.

The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Ricky Ponting, Bradley Davies, Andrew Hore and Craig Gilroy above the bar.

Actually, a couple of seasons ago before nearly all of Ulster's games were being televised we usually had to make do with the radio commentary. My mum would give out about the refs decisions even though she had absolutely no idea who had done what.



Up till then I hadn't realise we had family from west Wales?

My old Man surrendered on May 8th, 1945.
It's a long and amazing story but he said it took them a day to cross the river (chunks of ice cut people in half, etc) under bombardment from the Russians.

The SS, who for the last 5 years had been sending the young kids into the line of fire to create diversions and cop the initial hits - finally decided that they would remain behind on the Russian side whilst the Wehrmacht was allowed to cross the river first... but this time under cover of the SS fire... and not the other way round. For once and the only ever time that had happened.
They (the SS) all got 'ploughed' into the earth.

He'd kill me for mentioning that but I once asked him so you were with the Americans in late April?
No, we were 'lost' and had trouble finding the Americans.... it was not until May 8th, a day after the official surrender to the Allied Forces.

He said it was incredible to see all the materials they had brought with them.
It was a Hawaian division of Patton's 3rd US Army, each guy was dripping with about 2 or 3 machine guns, hand guns... some had 'cowboy style' guns and plenty of hand grenades... but they were good people and respected the Germans who were lucky to have surrendered to them.

Halfpenny is really very good. His current association with Cardiff Blues masks that fact to an extent.

A few missing, yes, they don't have the same depth as the All Blacks or Boks.

Missing most notably Genia and Ioane. I would see the 15 shirt as being wide open at this stage. In fact, I see almost every shirt as wide open.

I find people who think players have shirts nailed down before the Six Nations are a bit nuts!

It was a real shocker. Australia were bad but Wales could barely win a lineout and never troubled the scoreboard whilst they were on top. Even then had they just saw out the last minute! They kicked it away.
