Re: Ongoing NFL discussion thread part 2
Ball is in niners court with Woodson. He isn't the first choice but it is the team he wants to join. Same with Abraham too apparently. Delmas and Asomugha is what I want. Throwing in Woodson or Abraham would just be a bonus although I'm not Abraham's biggest fan

I'm not sure I like what Eagles are doing, not going to succeed using FA for everything, I think they will still struggle next year tbh with such a big personnel turnover. Draft will have big say

They're building depth. I agree they won't build Rome in a day, but you can't start 10 new rookies either. Have the vets versed in the 3-4, then draft their replacements to develop hopefully.
I'm sure they don't view Sopoaga or Barwin as long term starters

Manningham agrees to half his base salary thus opening up almost 2m more. So now Delmas and Asomugha, plus the ST guy from the Bengals and all draft picks affordable

Better have a solid backup plan with Aso. That's all I'll say.

Wait and see, Eagles ruin players, 49ers improve them, will be pro bowler next year if he signs. Plus I think we'll draft a corner in first three rounds and very deep position this year. T Brown is brilliant, Culliver had very good regular season, shocking playoffs. Rogers above average

Re: Ongoing NFL discussion thread part 2
Nah, I'm kidding but the 49ers do take vets who struggled a little and turn them into good players again. All about the coaching. Don't know what was up with Eagles last season but I think the guys they have released will show something was up. Asomugha and DRC in particular will have great seasons imo. Aso won't be pro bowler but will be more than serviceable, will be a different player in surroundings he likes in right system. He went to Eagles for money, he would be coming home if he signs for SF, mindset a factor too

Somehow they played worse with the DB coach in charge.
Would've liked to keep DRC, he flashed. More than happy to push Aso out the door
Ugh, gave Barwin 6m a year for 6 years. Has to be an out there somewhere

Dan Graziano @espn_nfceast
This is the NFL. Eagles could announce an 800-year deal for Barwin and it would basically mean the same thing.
Sounds about right, I think he's a good player

Well the Eagles always leave themselves an out lol.
Well we overpaid, banking on a return to form. 2m per less than Kruger got though iirc and hes younger with more sacks

On here we're disliking the Barwin and Avril deals. On NFLUK they're loving them

I don't think either is a bad deal tbh, both are at positions of need for their respective teams, both players are young with potential to grow, arguably in the top 2 or 3 free agents at those positions, and neither is a ridiculous contract

If Avril was that in demand he would have been signed up on day 1, not day 3
This is probably just about his pay level, any more and he would be overpaid

But we weaken a division opponent and get someone who knows how to play in our defense, plus Banner is smarter with the contracts if we cut Kruger don't carry any dead money forwards to count against other caps.GSC wrote:Well the Eagles always leave themselves an out lol.

At this rate, the Jets’ defense next season is going to be Antonio Cromartie and 10 of his children.

Also, Roseman is Banners protege, but less dbaggy. We've guaranteed only 8m of a 36m deal.

Avril and Barwin are in the same boat. Both are good players that took a step back last season. They aren't being signed on 2012 but rather what can happen in 2014.

Whatever, I felt you were asking for a response so wrote something! I'm happy with what we've done so far in free agency, don't really see the need for signing the TE Barnidge (that's likely wrong) we could have just kept Alex Smith for the blocking role but Chud probably wanted his own people, issue is the CB's seem to be disappearing off the market.GSC wrote:Also, Roseman is Banners protege, but less dbaggy. Re: Ongoing NFL discussion thread part 2
Few points I find interesting on the Eagles signings (likely nobody else does)
-6/8 came from teams that made the postseason (Fletcher didn't on the Rams, Phillips on the Giants)
-Nobody except Barwin got more than 3 years, and even then theres just 8m tied to him.
-Cary Williams missed 3 tackles last year. Fletcher has missed 3 in his career. Combined its still higher than the amount of attempts Nnamdi and DRC made last year.
-They all appear to fit the mold of gritty, hard working players

Fair enough, just found the comparison interesting. Kruger coming off a good year, Barwin a bad one.
Still plenty of depth at CB. Talib, Winfield, Grimes around.

Maybe he didn't feel he was getting the offers he deserves so is taking a prove it contract to hit FA next year and make more? Expect Tampa fans will be upset that they couldn't retain him if that's the deal he has accepted.NYJ wrote:That's a great signing for Seattle. Why only 1 year though?

Barwin deal looks good for Eagles: @RapSheet
More on Connor Barwin's deal: He gets $8 million guaranteed over 2 years. In the first 3 years, he gets $13.5 million. And $36M over 6 years

Re: Ongoing NFL discussion thread part 2
I'm guessing Clemons is gone then. Shows you the team doesn't see Irvin as ready to start then, a situational pass rusher. I like Bennett more than Avril but as a 49er fan I wouldn't say they are elite guys. Not going to lose sleep over them, would have been more worried if they kept Branch and the big interior. They look even more exposed to the run game on paper

Probably my favourite quote on here ever! Nice work GSC.
Tell you what though, the NFC West fans have really become a bit cocky have they not?? Well, Cherries always has been but we've got used to that and put up with it but what's with these 9ers fans???
I'm going to show a bit of solidarity with my fellow NFC East fan here... I like what the Eagles are doing. They've signed some low risk/high reward guys and I really like the Kenny Phillips move. I was gutted to see it though cos he was a guy I was hoping the Redskins might manage to grab.

A few more thoughts
I like the Greg Toler deal. He's a good #2 and underrated CB.
That said, Erik Walden. What on earth was that.
No idea what the chargers are doing. King Dunlap was one of the worst OL I've ever seen and they make him a priority.
I like the pickup of Harvin. It's a move a team a few pieces away can make. That said Avril and Bennett are very meh. Clemons needs to get healthy.
Lets hope the Miami dream team is more heat than Eagles. Gives them a spark at least.
Paging Geno Smith to Buffalo. The Bills are coming up for him.
The Jets would be wise to sign Kolb. Dude can play with protection.

The wide 9 is pretty similar to where Clemons lines up. Avril is a meh player.
