According to Clemons we are about to get the first openly homosexual nfl player who is currently playing
@Chrisclemons91
Who on Gods earth is this person saying he's coming out of the closet in the NFL?
Hope it happens as it would bea huge step forward

Campbell is a decent QB. I wonder whether the Browns are holding a competition? He may have a legitimate shot if they do.
Raiders are apparently about to cut Tommy Kelly, and Carson Palmer is refusing to re-work his contract. Can't see £13m going to him this year. Probably brings Geno Smith into play at #3 again.

Re: Ongoing NFL discussion thread part 2
Sodhat, I'd sooner see the back of Palmer for the money he is due to earn, I know it leaves a cloud of confusion over the QB scenario but I'd sooner cut a player who is earning far too much than what he should be and see what Pryor can do. The sooner we find out what he's capable of, the sooner we can make strides going forward. He may come in and be a bust and Raiders have another disappointing season, but lets face it would hardly be a change in proceedings
As for Geno Smith smith, I know he beasted his workout day but with the talent on defense and Oaklands inability to defend both the pass and the rush, we would be foolish not to stengthen here on the the hope that Smith may turn out to be the real deal.
Plus I can see jax taking him at #2 anyway

Ultimately, if you evaluate Geno Smith as a franchise QB (he reminds me quite a bit of McNabb), hes the sure fire pick.

Re: Ongoing NFL discussion thread part 2
Personally I would rather we gave the keys to Pryor - see what he can do and end the speculation. We'd need to sign a capable back up from somewhere, or I've even heard E.J Manuel is on our draft board.
Even if Pryor bombs, we get a good pick next year!
Totally agree about the #3 pick, it has to go on a pass rusher for me. No QB is worth #3. It does give us a bit of trade leverage if we can trick a QB needy team into trading up to 3 for a couple of extra picks.

Re: Ongoing NFL discussion thread part 2
Yeah. We really need to strengthen the defesive line, especially with only a handful of starters reportedly returning from last year. Pass rush is a big one, if we can't get to the QB to rush them then our corners, no matter how much we upgrade, will still get burnt
Guest- Guest
Re: Ongoing NFL discussion thread part 2
I'm wondering which bit of the line they will seek to upgrade. I keep hearing that they want to move Houston inside to DT, and with only Walker and Sims both coming in it seems like Houston could well be a starter there. That would mean we go for an end with our pick.
If we keep Houston outside then I think the choice is a straight one between Floyd and Lotulelei.
I still wonder what defensive scheme we're running this year! DA has been bracketed as a 3-4 guy and some of the moves in the offseason suggest that a switch isn't impossible. In which case we'd definitely go for a DT like Floyd or Star.

Ravens add Canty, Spears, Dumervil and Huff for same cap room as Boldin would have taken up. Hmm.

Thats because of how they structured the contracts. Boldin was owed a straight 6m.
They're trouble down the road when Flaccos big cap hits sink in however.
Also I keep forgetting Spears exists.

Browns want to trade Colt McCoy rather than release.
Stick that one in the same pile as the Jets holding out for a Tebow trade.

Fred Davis re-signs with the Redskins. Really pleased with that one. Means that despite our cap problems we've pretty much kept last season's team together without storing up cap problems for future years by doing restructures. Pat on the back to the Front Office. Davis re-signing to a one year deal makes a ton of sense for both sides.

My god that's ridiculous!!
Flacco got like 51m guaranteed and we thought it was a lot but at least he'd won a Super Bowl!!
Romo's won a playoff game and gets 55m guaranteed
Cowboys #headsgone

Flacco for all the moaning, does get it done in the playoffs. Won a playoff game for 5 years in a row, 9 playoff wins in his career so far, and a Super Bowl.
For Romo to be one of the highest paid QB's, not just in the league, but ever, is absurd

Re: Ongoing NFL discussion thread part 2
And the first 2 years at least he was dragged kicking and screaming through those games.
The nature of the system, is usually next good guy in a contract year gets the highest contract. Unless a mega deal like Fitz occurs. In any case, the bad Romo tends to stick in people minds more than good Romo, but he was the only reason the Cowboys were competitive last year.
Overpaying a good QB isn't the problem. Overpaying the rest of the crap on the roster is the problem.

Difference between the Eagles and Cowboys for me, is the Eagles hit rock bottom sooner. Now they've started fresh.

I'm not trying to say Romo is a bad QB, he's Top 10-15 in the league.

You also have to understand, that Romo has a metric **** load of leverage.
Can't be tagged next year, going to count against the Cowboys cap given the way his deals structured thanks to the restructures he did.

Lets be honest, Jerry has driven himself and the Cowboys into a corner.
If he let Romo go( in Jones mind unthinkable) who can he go after? I here McNabb is looking for a job!
Romo posts good figures every year but even if you are a Cowboys fan in the cold light of day that's not good enough. I may have to eat my words one day but until the Cowboys win a Superbowl with Romo at the helm he will be always be considered a second tier QB.

They should have let the aging Romo go next year, somehow pick up extra draft picks for 2014 and then get Johnny Manziel next year.asdral225 wrote:Lets be honest, Jerry has driven himself and the Cowboys into a corner.

The thing is he had lots of leverage, if they let him go next year they would have had 8million in dead money hit their cap, if they tagged him his number you be $28-29 million. Plus remember when Matt Barkley was a guaranteed #1 pick?mikeygnfl wrote:They should have let the aging Romo go next year, somehow pick up extra draft picks for 2014 and then get Johnny Manziel next year.asdral225 wrote:Lets be honest, Jerry has driven himself and the Cowboys into a corner.

Whatever you think of Romo's contract.
He'd have got more on the open market easily. Imagine if Romo went to the Eagles next year and beat the Cowboys.

Agreed. I've liked certain things that Kolb does - but he has a habit of being banged up and looking like a deer in headlights... get an o-line and you might fix both... at that point he might prove him self to be a serviceable, if not at all spectacular QB

Thats the thing with Kolb, pressure him and the eyes drop and he begins to move around. Get solid protection, put him in a system where hes making 3-5 step dropbacks and getting the ball out on time and he'll produce.
I'd be confident in saying in the right situation he'll give you similar production to Alex Smith at least.

Yeah if they don't ask him to do too much he should be a fine quarterback. With Jackson and Spiller they have that option.
