We Go Again! The 2014/15 Premier League Thread
First topic message reminder :
Well, as I started one for the Championship, it seems now is the time for the Premier League 2014/15 thread to begin!
We have all our teams, with Leicester, Burnley and QPR replacing Cardiff, Fulham and Norwich. Can City retain, can United break into the top four, how will Liverpool cope with Champions League football. All this and more can be discussed as we see how the transfers, the rumours, the World Cup and everything else make an impact on the Premier League before it all kicks off?
I'll open it up...the Telegraph, Sky Sports and others report Pochettino is top of Spurs' shortlist and could be unveiled in the next week. Thoughts? Sounds the perfect fit to me. Some suggesting he'll bring Rodriguez with him, although that sounds like immediate clutching to me.

He does that every fricking game. Even for Everton he goes out of his way to hit someone in the face. Get that sack of Poopie out of my club.

Lvg needs to needs to think about 532 , and just buy defenders like there is no tomorrow. Play like he did in the WC

You got to love Fellaini, truly abysmal
Be amazed if this doesn't start the trigger on the Vidal & Blind deals. GET THEM DONE ASAP.

Playing 3-5-2/5-3-2 is fine, it's playing it when there's not enough quality defenders/wingbacks at the club when it becomes a problem.
QPR playing 3-5-2 today against Hull, Dunne - Ferdinand - Caulker. Ferdinand would have been fine in a back three for Man U, less chance of being caught out by pace, can still read the game well. Even LVG had Ron Vlaar at the World Cup!

Exactly marky...But he needs loads of defenders so he can revert to a 532 when needed.
He won't be able to buy midfielders. But he should be able to find defenders..

I expect some serious surgery to happen in the next week or two.

Remind me SoF when you last won the title?
Pretty poor performance, we need to get Blind, Rojo and Vidal in as soon as possible.

HAHAHAHAHA!!!!! United fans confidence this summer amazes me. What's the biggest jump to be champions? 5th to 1st??? Although imagine the scenes if they actually do 7th to 1st, something else to beat Liverpool at.

HH has reverted to the history reply you can feel them converting into Liverpool fans of the future as the days go by. "It's our year" "Well we won the CL" "When was the last time you won anything" etc
The best part of that game was a bird Poopie in Young's mouth

Still think Van Gaal is suffering from Guardiola-fever. Trying to be deliberately different in using an unusual tactic and playing players out of position. Considering the crisis United have been in for the last year he would have been better off keeping it simple.

It's a genuine question, we've had one poor season and are in the process of rebuilding yet Liverpool have been rebuilding for 25 years now.

United had one poor season because Fergie stuck around. If he left after you won the league in 2011 you would have had 3 poor seasons by now.

Re: We Go Again! The 2014/15 Premier League Thread
United have fallen short of my expectations there. The wingback formation is rife with problems: predominantly that United lack genuine, quality wingbacks. Diagonal balls will stretch the defence, and the lack of pace (which is a problem even with a more conventional formation) will compound that problem.
Ashley Young at left-back, or wingback, is a massive no.
Attacking-wise there was a lack of dynamism and intent, which meant breaking down Swansea was a herculean task. Crossing poor as well.
Swansea were tidy, compact, and exploited the errors of United with aplomb. They also took their chances, and were well worth the three points.
Referee good, but erred on the side of leniency too greatly. You must book Shelvey before he commits four fouls.
Chin up, United: Arsenal lost 1-3 on the first day of last season and still made the top four.

Re: We Go Again! The 2014/15 Premier League Thread
Sunderland up next for United. Those 'easy' first six games to bed LVG in, don't appear so easy now do they. Arsenal lost to Villa but then made the statement of signing Ozil & it lifted everyone at the club. United must act & act now & copy that. Vidal & Blind are needed ASAP, make it happen LVG, otherwise it could be another season of embarrassing performances. As for Young as WB, everyone knew that would not work, surprised LVG even tried or forced him to play there. Not a great start, I would be disappointed so far if I was a United fan in LVG, shown nothing of note so far, especially in the tactics department. Pretty clueless as to the strengths of his players or the demands of the EPL, which surprises me.

Re: We Go Again! The 2014/15 Premier League Thread
Very poor today.
Missing the experienced players/leaders - a lot of basic errors with positioning and pass choices. It will take a long time to coach these guys into doing the right things.
Could do with a couple of older heads to help with that side of things.
Didn't do much offensively, januzaj the only real threat - mata was very poor and doesn't offer enough to justify starting IMO.
As for the goals we conceded well they were just full of basic errors, for the second notably jones positioning (may as well not have been on the pitch and young getting caught under the ball - though he isn't a fullback so I can't apportion too much blame.
I never want to see fellani again.

Re: We Go Again! The 2014/15 Premier League Thread
God so many average players in our team: young, nani, fellaini, Hernandez. Just rubbish. So annoyed not just because we lost but because these problems have been evident ever since fergies last year. It was plain obvious we've needed rebuilding and yet all we do with these idiots as owners and the joker in Woodward is sign sponsorship deals whilst the squad stays average. Realistically, we needed to sign 2 cb's, a left back, 2 cm's and a winger. We signed Herrera (cm) and shaw (lb). So we still need a cm and 2 cb's and a winger. The deals are there to be done:
Vidal
Blind
Benatia
Di Maria
Simply out, it will cost allot of money but it's an absolute necessity to get these players in otherwise it's another season without top 4.

Players of the calibre of Vidal just won't be interested in a move. We need to go for less obvious targets.
Garay went to Russia for 5 million quid.
Khedira is available.

Need someone like Tiote If you start off badly people are going to wonder if your even make the CL next year and probably won't join til January at earliest

you say vidal won't be interested in a move but then state khedira is available. champions league winner/WC winner/high calibre player. Both wont want to join then. DID I HEAR TIOTE, you can have him, 28 now, past his best for us. £12m & he's yours, already links this summer.
