First topic message reminder :
Sunderland are apparently on for will Buckley again this weekend. Another one from Brighton.
Also after Nacer Chadli from spurs and Jonas from Valencia - along with still trying to persuade fabio borini.

Let them argue. Just have the league dock you points for every game he plays before it's settled.

I didn't think he has a work permit either, or is this why it's taking so long to sort out?

My understanding is that City can only spend £15mil without selling more players so a move for Falcao seems highly unlikely.

Lassana Diarra having QPR Medical today.
Sokratis apparently hence to Arsenal for around 16m from Dortmund seems odd not long joined there.

Re: Summer Transfer Window
I was of the understanding that the 3rd party own the player but essentially loan him to a club so they can register him to the league. So Doyen will hold Rojo's registration until Sporting pay up which means United can't register him to the PLCFCNick wrote:Ent wrote:CFCNick wrote:Ent wrote:Blind joining.

Sokratis scored for Dortmund last night. If he was close to a move I would have thought he'd have been left out. One positive from our point of view is they've already got his replacement in place in Matthais Ginter.
Also talk in Portugul that Joel Campbell's agent in Lisbon to talk over a move to Benfica.

Re: Summer Transfer Window
Another strange signing; hardly a better DM than Fletcher or Carrick, probably even Jones and that's saying something. As someone mentioned gives away a lot of fouls and his pace isn't fantastic. If he's been bought as a LB then even more perplexing given Shaw has been brought in and you wouldn't imagine either one would want to be a back up...especially for sums of 30 mil and 14-16m respectively.
Suppose this is what finishing outside the top 4 does for a club of Utd's stature; they can entice relatively big players but have to take risks on fee's and seemingly the best players in the positions they need didn't want to come.
Did they need Di Marie...if they play him out wide yes...but for 60 odd million it's a big fee.
Rojas - Versatile but again is that what Utd need? They are fast becoming a defence full of players who are decent across various positions but not outstanding at one. Again £16 mill is a fair chunk for a player who has never stepped foot in England.
Will most certainly be interesting to see how these signings pan out;
£150 plus million spent; anything outside of Top 4 would have to be declared a complete failure if were being brutally honest.

There's nothing wrong with having a couple of very versatile players in the squad at all.

I do wonder if some of you at times watch the same football that I do?
Daley Blind was in most pundits team of the World Cup, that wasn't just for two passes v Spain. He was also the official player of the year in the Eredivise but I'm sure that will be quickly quashed with the usual 'the Dutch league is rubbish, Alfonso Alves blah blah blah' retort.

I never take much notice of what Owen says, tries covering up his ineptitude by using a lot of words. Every squad needs a reliable utility man and how much Dutch football do people really watch.

Agger has said that he was struggling to cope with the physicality of the Premier League and that's one of the big reasons why he wanted to leave. It's a shame but I think injuries have essentially ravaged him.

Re: Summer Transfer Window
I'm not debating he isn't decent; but is decent good enough for a starting XI player at Utd? As I said he played left back mostly at the World Cup and that's the position of Luke Shaw at £30 million. Also what is wrong with the dutch league retort Hero?...It's been proven by various signings that players who come straight from Holland struggle...For every Van Persie there has been a Babel/Alves.. Only time will tell but as imo if he has bought him as a back up LB it's a fair stump to pay...if he has bought him as DM think there are plenty of better alternatives around.
In terms of versatile players in the squad...nope there isn't an issue with that...but that isn't what Utd need and that isn't just my opinion but that of most fans of the club and pundits etc. Before the start of the season it was discussed they needed a minimum of 4 world class players and certainly major upgrades on the defence..
So far they have bought one World Class player in a position they are not short of options (today suggests his role could be mainly in the middle).
One player with big potential but who will have the pressure of a big price tag;
The rest are expensive players when you consider they are unproven in this league.
Do Utd need utility players? Welbeck, Valencia, Smalling, Kagawa, Hernandez etc...unless there is an big clear out seems daft to overload on utility players is it not?
Regardless I don't think Blind has been bought as a utility player; he has been brought in as either a LB which makes the Shaw signing pointless or a DM which is fine...but you cannot say it isn't a risk given it's not his natural position and for £14 million odd they could have gone elsewhere.
Yawn Hammersmith; one of these who just seem to pick a couple of people across a forum and argue against everything they say; even if they provide concrete facts.

I'm not talking about this thread but others; like past England threads...boxing etc. As for half arsed opinion as fact, think you'll find I have said it's my opinion that he is a risky purchase as a 1st team DM and a waste of money if brought in as left back. If you can suggest otherwise then please do...instead of just saying stuff with no substance which is what you always do. Actually put something towards the debate rather than try to shred other peoples opinion...or are you to afraid to voice your own in case people disagree with yours.
Re: Summer Transfer Window
Could Blind play as one of a back three? I reckon so. I think its a decent, if not exciting signing. Hes not the man they desperately need, but he is a good signing regardless.

I'm guessing Blind can play either as a left sided centre back, or as a wing back.

The Dutch league argument is the laziest argument in the world, it's never used against the French league or any other but as soon as a player signs from Netherlands then someone drags it out and mentions Alves whilst forgetting the absolute wealth of players that earnt their stripes in that league.
I suspect Blind will mainly play in the DM role, it's the position he predominantly played for Ajax last season and started this season playing, but the fact he can slot in at LB or even CB shouldn't be thought of as a negative.

Most of those players only play 2 positions at most, Phil can play RB, LB, DM & CM which, aside from the latter 2, are very different positions. I wouldn't say there's much difference between, for example, the positions Iniesta or Neymar play for club and country. Bale's not a LB these days, Muller's a striker only (maybe SS but there's not a lot of difference). Martinez is a good point whereas Mascherano is a poor imitation of him. Most players can play 2 positions but few can play more.

But they failed outside the Dutch league. Surely such an advocate of European football such as yourself wouldn't be insinuating that the Bundesliga was lower in quality than the PL?
