Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
First topic message reminder :
Now the season is over, the rumours begin!
Milner/Ings to Liverpool seems likely.
Benitez to Real Madrid, Bale staying.
Falcao is desperate to move to Chelsea.
Otamendi and Dani Alves to Manchester United.

They can still buy players, they just can't register them until 1st Jan 2016. They shouldn't be allowed to do any business of any kind, wouldn't mind the ban was delayed to allow them to bring in new players. They've hardly been punished tbh

We've released Darren Bent.
Always thought he was decent.
Interesting to see where he goes.

At least somebody has kept up to date with it; signed Suarez, Rakitic, Ter Stegen, Bravo and Mathieu all of whom played a big part in their treble because a BS delay and now it turns out they can sign players, loan them back and then register them in January. A ban that has achieved the square root of FA, no wonder the Spanish FA were backing Blatter until the end.

Ayew is a personal favourite of mine on FIFA, got a good left foot on him, an eye for goal and being available on a free would be an absolute bargain for West Ham.

Probably argue Ings is better than Borini from what ive seen. On a free transfer i fail to see what the joke is tbh. Dont often stick up for liverpool but they were never going to attract the bigger names having missed top four, but to get Milner and Ings (who scored more than all liverpools strikers combined for a very poor burnley side) without spending a penny is alright business as far as im concerned
Also rumoured theyre close to agreeing a fee for kovacic (think thats his name from imter) he would be a cracking signing
In united news after apparentpy agreeing a fee the other day, Lazio have come out and said they cant afford to match RVPs wages leaving Juventus as favourites to sign him in place of outgoing Tevez (apparently off to Atletico) but any deal that sees Van Persie leaving Old Trafford could also us us paying some of his wages for the remaining 12 months of his 200k a week contract

be a bit sad of rvp to turn down first team cl football at 32 for the sale of money.
Thank him for all hes done but lvg isn't interested In playing him, not sure he saw it all turning out this way when he signed - think Ferguson leaving scuppered him badly.

Danny Ings won't quite be a free transfer though, probably be about £4-5 million because he's under 24.

If a fee cant be agreed it goes to a tribunal.
I would be surprised if we pay between £7-8mill though

I gotta agree with Olly to be honest. Is Ings really that much better than a Borini or Lambert? Thought he'd make a decent signing for a midtable club but cant really see him making the grade at a club with European aspirations.

Re: Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
Hopefully Ings will not be the only striker we sign, otherwise i think we would be left very short again upfront. Him + a big name striker would seem good business as long as we then concentrated on improving the defence. The question is though who should the big name striker be.
Overall so far so good for Liverpool in the transfer market, however, a lot still needs to be done.

Think there is more then meets the eye with Ings. You don't have Man U and Tottenham sniffing round if he wasn't any good.

He's a promising striker for sure SoF - but he's 3-4 years away from being good enough for a top 6 side, and now he is there you have to wonder if he'll get that game time he needs to develop (hence my borini comparison as he came in in the same situation)

Re: Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
I don't think these 2 signings by Liverpool can be assessed fully at this early stage because how good/bad they are will depend entirely on who else is brought in. If these 2 signings are backed up by some of the other, better quality players we have been linked with then they will be seen as good signings. If, however, they turn out to be the main players signed in their respective roles they will be poor signings. Sadly i worry it will be the latter, mainly because this Kovacic situation has all the markings of failed deals from previous windows i.e. the players interested, he wants to come, we waste weeks argueing about 1/2 million and another club swoops in, pays full price, and wraps up a simple deal over night (like Salah to Chelsea etc.)
If nothing else though, the fact that business is being done this early in the window is encouraging....

Re: Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
The trouble is when people are saying about liverpool now needing a big name striker, what big name striker is going to go to liverpool who don't offer cl football. Especially as it seems they don't have the same amounts of money to spend as they did last year. Strikers who are seemingly 'available' like benzema, higuain, martinez and bacca (to less extents) either have cl football or will be looking for cl football. I'd be amazed if liverpool can compete with cl sides for these guys signatures.

They dont need a big name striker like world class. They need to shop in that area below. Benteke really seems a good idea to me. Even with CL football at Sevilla I reckon they could nick Bacca

Re: Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
I rate Benteke, but I'm not sure he'd have been a particularly great fit at Liverpool.
£32.5 million is a little pricey in any case, albeit in Rodgers we're talking about a man who, for all intents and purposes, wasted £117 million in the transfer market last year. But based on how Rodgers has had Liverpool playing in the last couple of years I'm not convinced Benteke would have flourished unless they had a big tactical switch up, and tactical nous ain't Rodgers' USP to say the least.
Rodgers tries to get his strikers played in and honing in on goal and he doesn't seem to fancy strikers who play with their back to goal at times and who you can lump it up to for them to bring others in to play. That's arguably why he didn't give Lambert much of a chance last year, albeit he surely couldn't have done any worse for them than the human waste disposal unit also know as 'Super' Mario Balotelli.
I guess what I should have said was that Benteke might not have flourished under a manager who seems to be as stubborn and loyal to one style as Rodgers. As a player he's got the talent to succeed anywhere if used well.
Agree with the general jist that, unless they unearth a good signing that nobody else wants to take a chance on from one of the smaller European leagues, it could be a frustrating time for Liverpool in terms of rebuilding their attack. Sturridge won't play early in the season and even when he does get back, you can't automatically assume he'll hit the ground running. I'm not sure Ings is a) good enough and b) mentally ready to be Liverpool's main man in leading the attack, but unless something big happens this summer he might be forced to be come August.

Re: Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
Ings might be like Kane and thrive on the challenge of leading the line...then again, the pressure of playing for Liverpool and the understanding that he's the man to end their scoring woes may just cripple him.
I hope it's the former!

Re: Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
I like Ings. When utd were linked with him i'd have happily have had him as a 3rd choice striker, because at a top 4 club that's all he'd be at the minute. Then again, i'd prefer to keep Hernandez or promote Wilson.
Benteke would be a decent signing for anyone, although his price tag is extortiante, plus as others have said, not sure he fits into how rodger's wants Liverpool playing. Bacca would be a decent signing but I think if there's a sniff he's available other clubs would come in for him who offer cl football. Then again, he could just stay and play cl with sevilla.

You're overselling CL football there Liam, if Liverpool offered a player like Bacca more wages than anyone else it would become an irrelevance just like it did for Falcao and Di Maria; money talks not CL football.

Thats what I like about Benteke, he can do that backs into defenders stuff, can get his head on a ball, but he does look to spin in behind too. I think its that mix that Liverpool need.

Milner essentially getting paid the transfer fee as a signing on bonus, which will be spread over his contract. Liverpool couldn't sign a £20 million player then pay him the same amount of cash.

The thing is they could but like Tottenham waste for too much money every season on a collection of average players, if they concentrated more on quality instead of quantity they could afford the better players.

True but then again Liverpool's "Transfer Board" are idiots so wouldn't be surprised if they did. I also defy anyone to say Milner on 150k a week is money well spent regardless of signing on fees.

As ent states above, Alves signs a new Barca deal. Wonder if that has an impact on LVGs summer plans, surely he cant honestly be considering a second season of Valencia at right back. When we were linked with alves i openly stated id sooner go for a younger player, but tbh id rather anybody that isnt valencia

City were practically begging him to stay and it was 'ok' for them to be paying him around that amount. Milner has alot of qualities that Liverpool were lacking last season.
Shame Notts Forest aren't relavent enough anymore to be spoken about.
