Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
First topic message reminder :
I think the other point...is we need defenders....badly!
Surely we have enough to cover the attacking options.

All well and good being the next world class player, but he ain't gonna fulfill that at United of they fail to make the top four, and with rooney up front it's going to be a struggle to get that

"West Ham are not a good team - Liverpool simply did not play well enough" - the headline to Mark Lawrenson's column in the Mirror. The ego of ex-Liverpool players in the media never ceases to amaze me. You beat a team 3-0 away from home but of course one of the old scouse crew can't see anything but the mighty Liverpool didnt turn up.
I've said it on here before and caused a strop, but the Liverpool media are a pox on coverage in this country.
I thought the same when I read that headline. Sometimes you just have to admitt that the other team played better and deserved their win.
On a related note, if Lovren starts the game against united I am Flying over to Liverpool to assassinate BR!

I've no idea what's going on at United.
Very late in the window to be making a big move for someone with "potential".
Gotta feel for wilson.
Assume lvg thinks he can play right across the front 3.

I knew that Monaco wanted to copy the "porto" business model (i.e. buying cheap unknown or unproven players and selling them high 2-3 years later) but they are taking this quite far : After James a year ago sold 90M to real, this summer they got rid of Kondogbia for 44M , Carrasco for 25M,kurzawa for 27M , Abdenour for 30M and now Martial.

Whilst it seems pretty certain we're getting Moses, I would be really happy with this. I am all for taking a bit of a punt on players who show potential in the Championship.

Athletically hes a beast. Quick, tall and powerful. Not much nuance in his play though, wants to bulldoze his way inside off the left and get a shot off.

And you havent had to sell him to a rival. Nor have you had to take Jarvis on loan, which in itself is probably why you've accepted it. It was probably £7m plus Jarvis for a while and finally you managed to negotiate us down and make us take Jarvis out of the deal.

Hearing that David De Gea to Madrid has been agreed for £25m, with Keylor Navas coming the other way.

The next few hours will be key to us finding out whether Martial is better than Pedro or whether he was never good enough for Man United anyway. All based on one signature.

I never wanted Pedro but can't say I want to see us spend over £40mil on a teenager who's proven nothing in his career so far, as a seasoned FMer he's not been highlighted on there either which isn't a great sign.

About time. Although I was getting a little fond of Navas tbh. Saved a penalty on Saturday but he's too good to be our 2nd choice keeper.

If De Gea does join Madrid why the hell have we been fart arsing about for the past two months, surely getting Navas in as early as possible would have been preferable to this mess.

I got real fond of Navas. Lots of money for de Gea, and no one buys Goalkeeper jerseys, so he'll have to be reasonable on the field to prove a good buy

I know it's absolutely got no reflection upon real life but he's a potential 91 on FIFA.
He was the highest scoring u20 player in any of the top 5 leagues last season.

Only a loan with no option to purchase though. Seems an odd one though from both sides, was getting game time at Utd and may well not get much at Dortmund.

Re: Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
Bizarre Hero, why bother starting him if we were willing to loan him out, would have been better off sticking Mata at 10 with Young wide right. Starting to lose faith in our transfer dealings now, when I made a list of possible players to leave I didn't expect each and every one of them to go without bringing in replacements.

Reports Watford want Valdes. Would be a decent move.
Also read that Navas is part of the "fee" total being bandied about, not on top of the figure, for De Gea.

Jackson Martinez cost around 10 million less than Martian; what are United doing.
Atletico Madrid always seem to know what to do in the transfer market. If they had the prestige and history to hold on to their star players they'd be unstoppable.

Predicted first team squad
Navas, Romero, Johnstone
Darmian, Valencia, Mcnair, Smalling, Rojo, Jones, Blind, Shaw
Carrick, Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin, Fellaini
Mata, Young, Depay, Rooney, Martial
Plus Pereira, Varela and Powell
We have to be bring in another attacker alongside Martial or we're woefully short on options.

He's also 28, wouldn't have made sense getting rid of Falcao and RVP to then sign another late 20's forward.

You could argue that squad is a lot worse now than it was at the end of last season

Falcao was gone and RVP was 32. We should have signed martinez for 25 million, and then gone in next year for a top top striker.Hammersmith harrier wrote:It Must Be Love wrote:Jackson Martinez cost around 10 million less than Martian; what are United doing.

I don't think Martial will be the only attacking purchase at Utd in the next 24 hours. I'm expecting Utd to throw the kitchen sink at getting a marquee name in.

Spending £25mil on a short term option isn't a great idea, granted signing a prospect for £40mil+ isn't either but is at least a long term investment.
Balague doesn't half talk some rubbish, apparently LVG blocked offering De Gea a new contract because he prefers Navas.

Have to say. Man U although have lost out on their word class keeper. They got a great deal, considering he was in his last year.

Re: Summer Transfer Window Thread 15/16
Annoyed it's come this late but we've got a good deal in my book. I rate Navas and I think he'll do the number one jersey justice. We've also got the fee we wanted, not some poultry 13m as was previously muted. No idea who this Martial is but we're spending a hell of allot of money on someone who is very young. It could be a coup in 5 years time or it could be remembered for the most expensive man sausage up in history. Time will tell, but we have to bring in another striker, and someone who is ready to start and score goals. I keep hearing that we MUST have someone big lined up, but on what planet do dortmund sell reus, atletico sell greizemann, real sell bale or bayern sell muller on the final day of the window when they can't get anyone in to replace them. Money can't buy everything i'm afraid.

Staggering numbers we're talking here though Liam, once we sell De Gea we're break even for the Summer and have cut approx £1mil a week from the wage bill, yes that is right. Martial will take a hefty chunk out of that but my heart says we must have something big lined up and then my brain chirps up that LVG and Woodward just don't have a clue.

Sky are really trying to big that up that Van Gaal has spent nearly a 1/4 billion since taking over but as you say, with the net spend, the Glazers will be thrilled that they've recouped nearly all of that. Allot of the players that have left are ones that needed to go at the end of the day. We've signed some good players this window, but a quality striker and in my book a winger is a must. I really can't see anyone coming in. Van Gaal is desperate for Bale which is not happening till possibly next summer if he doesn't perform this year, and no way bayern sell muller. The fans will have a meltdown if he goes.

I've got this feeling Utd are going to offer ridiculous money for Reus, that Dortmund aren't in the Champions League this year, Klopp's gone and Januzaj has gone the other way is making me think he must be the one they're going to go all in for.
Whilst he's a wonderful player I worry with his recent injury record if it would be the right player to go for. Still much prefer Griezmann as a marquee buy.

Well, Song has been announced as coming back on loan. Expected it will be turned permanent once its proven his ankle injury isnt going to be a long term problem.
Jelavic for £3m and Antonio for £7m seem likely. The ink isn't dried on Moses' contract yet so I would still be wary of that being hijacked. Spurs are apparently interested (god knows why considering they have Son, Eriksen, Townsend, Chadli and Lennon (although its suggested Lennon has been told to train with the youth squad).

Id expect if go to Dortmund it'll be more likely Aubameyang id have thought tbh, Like Martial he can cover the front 3
Arsene is in Paris apparently (Rabiot not Cavani id guess)

I'll be honest, Reus was the one I thought was the real possibility if United were gonna go mental with a big name. I did like the sound of the Gomis links, only £7m and clearly a big enough mercenary to accept big money for being second choice.
Adrian Ramos is being touted around, wouldnt be an awful option for United. Surprised Pato hasn't been mentioned more. Both are probably more likely to end up at middle-range Prem clubs if they come over.
