First topic message reminder :

I think the other point...is we need defenders....badly!

Surely we have enough to cover the attacking options.

Being an ESPN guy it probably ain't true but apparently United refused to pay £60m for Reus.

Why wouldn't you pay that but 40m for a 19 year old french kid Laugh

Tim is more of a Brazilian correspondent then the whole of South America. Plus Funes Mori kept Balanta out of the team so he cant be that Poopie.

Hes a South American specialist based in Brazil. He's always been a pretty good judge of South Americans coming into Europe too.

He will report on domestic football in Brazil and the two South Americcan continental competitions. Not really the rest of the continent.

Except hes used across BBC sport outlets and TalkSport at the least as a South American correspondent, whilst other outlets I cant remember the names of have used him too. Hes not going to offer opinions on players he has no idea on, let alone harsh ones.

So the final outcome is;

IN- Darmian, Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger, Romero, Depay and Martial
OUT- Van Persie, Cleverley, Evans, Hernandez, Henriquez, Janko, Di Maria, Rafael, Lindegaard and Nani
Loaned Out- Blackett and Januzaj

Not good enough at all really, we're now left with a skeleton squad that wasn't good enough in the first place, letting Januzaj leave on loan without getting in any replacement is ridiculous.

Yes letting those players go without getting in replacements is bizarre - agree re januzaj doesn't make one iota of sense that.

Are Real forgetting one small detail with their press release; De Gea was and still is OUR player so what we choose to do with his transfer is our prerogative and nothing to do with them.

West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace has spoken out about Saido Berahino's anger over his failed move to Spurs.

He said: “We have a key player who has been very unsettled by antics which were designed to get him out of our club cheaply. "Those tactics have continued despite my making our position clear in my first conversation with Daniel Levy on this subject in mid-August. “I said selling Saido so late in the window was not on our agenda.“Tottenham’s offers failed substantially to reflect Saido’s true value while the timing made no allowance for our own recruitment of a suitable replacement for a proven Premier League goalscorer.“Saido has been unsettled to the point where our Head Coach has not felt able to select him for our last three games.“We are now left with the task of repairing the damage created by this unfortunate episode.”

I can sum that up for you: Levy is a c***

Have to admire Peace's bollox in point blank turning Tottenham down but can't help thinking it's going to backfire; losing out on £20mil+ on a player who clearly has temperament issues and will now no doubt sulk for the best part of 4 months.

Man Utd's open reply to Real:

UNITED STATEMENT ON DE GEA TRANSFER

Manchester United notes Real Madrid’s statement on the attempt to sign David De Gea and sell Navas to Manchester United. The club feels compelled to provide some clarification with the following facts.

- Manchester United did not seek contact from Real Madrid for the sale of David. David is a key member of our squad and the club’s preference was not to sell.

- No offer was received for David until yesterday.

- At lunchtime yesterday, Real Madrid made its first offer to buy David. A deal was agreed between the clubs, which included Navas being transferred to Old Trafford. The deals were dependent on each other.

- In the last several hours of the process, with Navas at the Real Madrid training ground, Real Madrid were controlling the documentation processes of David, Navas and Real Madrid. Manchester United was in control only of the documentation of Manchester United.

- Manchester United sent transfer documents for both players to Real Madrid at 20:42 BST. David’s documentation was returned by Real Madrid to Manchester United without the signatory page at 22:32 BST.

- At 22:40 BST, minutes before the deadline, major changes to the documentation came through to Manchester United which immediately put the deals at risk.

- Only at 22:55 BST were the documents that are needed to cancel David’s contract received by Manchester United from Real Madrid.

- At this point Navas’ documentation was still not returned by Real Madrid.

- At 22:58 BST, the transfer agreement was sent back by Manchester United, uploaded onto TMS and accepted – all before the deadline.

- It is our understanding that the deals couldn’t happen because:

Real Madrid didn’t upload David’s documents onto TMS in time (Manchester United did)

Real Madrid didn’t upload David’s documents to the Spanish league in time, per reports it seems some 28 minutes after the deadline

- The fact that Manchester United filed the papers on time was acknowledged by the Football Association, who offered to support that claim in any discussions with FIFA. The club offered this assistance, as well as its own timestamped documents to Real Madrid but they have chosen not to go down this route.

Manchester United acts appropriately and efficiently in its transfer dealings. The club is delighted that its fan-favourite double Player of the Year, David de Gea, remains a Manchester United player.

Good statement by utd that puts real in their place whilst also softening the possible hate that was coming their way from De Gea. I feel for him. Not his fault, but I think it was pretty clear that we wanted a fair price and deal for him, it was Real who I believe the longer they waited, that we would heel and give in to a crap offer. We didn't, they rushed it and messed it right up. We were under no obligation to make it easy for them and I'm happy we've done that. Now, we have to integrate De Gea back in and the main reason why I see him sooner rather than later getting back into first team action is because of the euro's next year.

My views on utd's overall transfer window: We've massively strengthed the midfield with schneiderlin and schweinstiger, signed a top quality rb, a promising winger and a bit of a unknown in martial but seems highly rated by many. I don't buy that the squad is weaker than last year, as we've shipped out players who either didn't play or weren't good enough. Personally, would have liked someone who can score 20 goals and a quality winger like pedro but apart from that a decent window. Just a little worried at the numbers but youth players like wilson and perreira will get more game time hopefully. Its the tempo we play at is what is worrying. We need to be more direct and also get mata back in the 10 position.

Pereira is the one I'd like to see get some game time, youth POTY last season and excellent at the u20 WC in the summer, normally plays centrally but has a turn of pace that could easily let him go on the right and with the lack of options there he could quickly then cement a place.

I think there will be little choice but to give them a chance when injuries start to creep into the squad. Last season early on they were forced to blood in Blackett, James and McNair due to injuries at the back, the squads drastically cut back this year so I imagine youth will get a game through necessity rather than choice.

I would have preferred januzaj to stay obviously, he's the one I wanted to keep but played on the wing. He's not a 10 in my book, he's best cutting in from the right, and showed what he's capable of in moyes' season. Didn't think much of Blackett. Apart from one game McNair did well and showed some good composure, whilst doing well against some of the top strikers like lukaku etc, so there's definitely something to work with there. Rojo coming back and hopefully jones shows the form he had towards the end of last season and it's not too bad in my view. Not as bad as some are making out.

Seen Vlaar was released by Villa this summer. Amazed no one has picked him up. Yes he didn't have a brilliant year at Villa last year but also did have a few injuries. Would have been a real coup for any of the promoted sides and also those pushing mid table and above in my view.

Ah I see. I thought he was solid enough. Nothing special but if fit could have been a decent pick up for someone like norwich etc. Van Djik could be a good signing for southampton. 4 decent cb's at the club now after missing out on alderweireld.

Tim Vickery absolutely slaughtering Martinez today:

"It seems to me that Roberto Martinez has a blind spot when it comes to bringing players straight in from South America.

"He dropped an almighty brick with Mauro Boselli at Wigan. He was their record signing, and I don't think he scored a Premier League goal for them. I had a Premier League manager get in contact with me and say: 'Should I buy this player?' There were agents touting him around. I said: 'Don't go anywhere near him. He can't do it in the Premier League and he won't.' Martinez, for all his wisdom and experience, didn't see that.

"You'd have thought, after an experience like that, he'd have been scarred for life, but he's gone back twice. He's brought in Leandro Rodriguez from River Plate in Montevideo, and said that he's played lots of games in a really competitive league. Well if he thinks the Uruguayan league is competitive, he's living in cloud cuckoo land."

I've said all along we need defensive reinforcements.

Still think we'll be alright, but it's a concern. Suppose it can be addressed in January if needs must
