Tino, I forget exactly what part of the industry you are in... trading? If so, my brother has been through the wheels (last 20 years or so) in Asia with some of the big banks. Absolute w@ankers.
Yes mate, 16 years and counting. Vastly different market to the one I joined in 1999. I've worked for 2 banks (not at the moment) and they are generally full of w*nkers.
Best of luck with the new job.

Re: The Culture Cup Round x - Adam is a naughty naughty boy
Saw a documentary (I had seen before but forgotten the important detail) about how in 408 the great eastern hordes managed to cross the Rhine when it froze over... and that was pretty much the beginning of the acceleration of the fall of the Roman empire. Took another 80-100 or so years to take a full hold but there was no turning back after that as the dark ages set in for the next 400 years at least.
Can't help but see the modern parallel happening but at a much faster rate - like over a few summers? Some countries are obviously more vulnerable than others but what gets me is that this current situation has been 'designed' by a few to deliberately cause extra chaos and confusion for hundreds of millions of peace loving people. It's just too phucking much... it really is. Not all at once please!
I see even some Bulgarian farmers have nabbed a few Afghans at the border and said "No! Go home... we do not want you here. Go!"
So sad... but I can understand why they feel this way. They seemed so angry... and the new arrivals completely stunned by the reception.
Shah - you have the best of both worlds. Any Kashmir who posts 60's pop videos has already fully assimilated in what's left of the once great western culture. ~ (I don't mean to sound patronising or anything... but it's just from my point of view way down here.... I may be wrong of course) ~
btw, I think it is stronger than it seems (western culture). We just get bombarded with every little piece of info/news that is dug up and thrown in our faces by certain journos who think it is of highest importance to us. Like someone said to me recently - stop watching the 24 hour news cycle... it can harm you in a big way psychologically. However, you must keep aware of what's happening on the other hand. A double-edge sword, folks.
Apologies for the rant - I was just looking at Geoff's post above and his location.
Hang in there mate! It sure must be a test of patience at your work. Don't let anyone break you down; try even harder to disengage the emotion when dealing with others. Keep sane.

riCK - in Runcorn, we never asked for mushy peas, it was just 'fish, chips and peas' on the assumption that they would come in a mushy form otherwise the person serving would get stabbed in the face with a penknife.
Was that local to us or did you folk from Northwich also just ask for 'peas'?

Just peas, and usually gravy as well...
If they served garden peas it would go down like a sh1t sandwich, and someone would have been stabbed, so assumptions were made.

Assimilated is the key word
The Rise And Fall Of Empires: Ibn Khaldun’s Theory Of Social Development, you could do worse than read this book.
And Rowley, remember that racism is the refuge of the unimportant, and it takes time out of your busy schedule of w*nking in inappropriate places, listening to jazz and pestering TSMR for biannual sex.

FIST NOTCHES
Morning Reverend Rick and Templar TLD
Deep down in Louisiana close to New Orleans,
Way back up in the woods among the evergreens
There stood a log cabin made of earth and wood,
Where lived a country boy named Johnny B. Goode
Who never ever learned to read or write so well,
But he could play a guitar just like a ringing a bell.
[Chorus:]
Go Go
Go, Johnny, go, go
Go, Johnny, go, go
Go, Johnny, go, go
Go, Johnny, go, go
Johnny B. Goode
He used to carry his guitar in a gunny sack
Or sit beneath the tree by the railroad track.
Oh, the engineers would see him sitting in the shade,
Strumming with the rhythm that the drivers made.
The people passing by, they would stop and say,
"Oh, my, but that little country boy could play!"
[Chorus]
His mother told him, "Someday you will be a man,
And you will be the leader of a big old band.
Many people coming from miles around
To hear you play your music when the sun go down.
Maybe someday your name will be in lights
Saying 'Johnny B. Goode tonight'."
[Chorus]
