The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Funnily enough I like them, you jsut take them with a pinch of salt. I tend to avoid the 'Irish' bars where I'm from because theres a fair chance of getting shot in them....
My flatmate commented early last week that all the local pubs were closed in the evening in case of riots ... except 1 (can't remember the name), but she said most of it's patrons are labourers from Donegal so no-one would risk trying to loot it
Incidentally, how do you set up an Australian theme bar? You take one Irish bar, raise the ceiling, swap the Guinness for Fosters, and paint a surfboard , a kangaroo and a hat with corks on the wall.

You know what I don't think there's a single Australian or SA theme bar over here. Is there any in Belfast or Dublin? You tend not to get the chain theme bars over here or at least I've been to drunk to notice them if there are.

OMFG! Psychic Cari strikes again! (that was in relation to Staggy...unless he's been lurking for ages).
Kiwi - isn't the Walkabout an Oz theme bar? You could actually do a Welsh one...

The Walkies are Oz bars. There are also Aussie theme bars in Florence and Siena which both fit the bill.

There’s an antipodean bar in Dublin called the Woolshed. It’s quality for sport, they have 2 ma-hassive projector screens and loads of tv’s, nice food and sheila’s serving the beer. Happy days!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I wouldn't say Walkabouts are aussie bars, aussie theme bars but not aussie.
Last real aussie bar I think was the old Outback in Covent Garden, before walkie, and the Puzzle at Earlsfield was quite aussie as well.
Though don't see the sense of an aussie bar in London, heck I had heaps of them back home, well ok, they were all aussie bars back home!! LOL!
When I first came over did used to go to bars where other aussies go to, but as I intergrated more into life here and the walkabouts started up sometimes I make an effort to avoid them, cept for Anzac and Australia Day when it then is good to go, just to hear music from home really and that's a good time to feel aussie.
Now there're aussie and Irish theme bars, why not Scottish and Welsh? Have come across a Scottish bar in France couple of years ago, forgotten where.
I'm now trying to think of an English theme bar back home, and only one I could think of was the one under Central in Sydney, Forgotten the name of it now.
Oh and Henry the some number of the other downtown Sydney, but it has been many years now since I have been home so maybe now they're all over the place.
what would you call an English theme chain in Oz? Walkabout for aussies here, hmm, maybe Roast Beef and 2 Veg??
Come, let's start a compo up for name of an English chain in Oz....

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Oz, there's also the Redback in Acton - where English girls and South African men meet . If you can't pull in the RedBack ...
My home town has an "English" theme pub called the Cork & Keg. And there used to be (destroyed in Feb) a "Bard on Avon" pub in Chch.
I think the pre-req's there are having a "&" in the name, with 2 unrelated nouns around it. Plus a low ceiling, and ales on tap.

Penfro - basically I'm in a kind of limbo in that I don't have a specific role, they can't sack me and I haven't applied for voluntary redundancy. I have to fill out a few forms and then (hopefully) I'll get moved elsewhere eventually. In the interim I'm not really sure what I'll be doing. When I asked last week I was told "various projects". At least I'm still getting a wage anyway. It's just a bit uncertain that's all.

I think that's the theme for an English bar, some not just unrelated nouns but also opposites or enimies!
Like I suppose fox and geese...

My favourite was the Loggerhead Inn, Shrewsbury. It had a pub sign with the photos of two wooden headed men and the legend "We Three Loggerheads". People would stare at it until they saw locals laughing at them, and they realised they were the third stupid person referred to.
Anyway, the "Rabbit & Cane Toad"

But rabbit and cane toad I think too aussie for an English chain bar in Oz...
And cari, yes do that, I have friends who are in the same boat as you are for a big place here in London, and they are sometimes doing 2 external courses a week, get what you can before being outed

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
afternoon all.
making the most of a free gaff today (boss off for the week) so getting stuck into loads of work. can imagine that come thursday, I will be fully clear of work load and can enjoy the weekend in tralee for the lovely ladies competition (Rose of Tralee)
Heading into my last week of being 27. that makes me sad. from the 23rd - the 19th of March I absolutely hate as my GF is 3 years younger than me again. I had liked 27 to 25.. but 28 to 25 sounds wrong.
Cari, reading back from your conversations. hope everything works out for you in the end. I know as you say you were expecting it but still must seem tough seeing it in black and white.
