The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Really enjoyed myself at Dave Parade. Good to spend some time chatting with Lucky as really didn't get much chance at the BIG meet for the HEC Final. Was nice to see the 'Big Lump' too. I'd forgotten how diffucult it is, sometimes, to see all the action from a terrace (as opposed to pitch side at a parks ground that the Sarries play on), good atmosphere though
Still miss it when the opposition go into touch though don't you Penfro

Spherical Trigononmetry? Is that something to do with circles or triangles or what?!

I wouldn't even ask me how annoyed I am penfro!! At least it means my back has a trial before a match to check it will stay in one piece.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
MrsP, I don’t take it as dissing!
The only “problem” with the course is that that it’s got too much capacity I suppose. They’ve room for anyone who wants to do it, which means people will go for it as a last resort as they know they can get in. getting in and staying in are different stories. The maths was a killer. Normal people maths I can deal with, applied maths is fine, but laplace transforms and fourie series just zoomed over my head! I can’t even remember what they were, I just remember it was tough going. Thermodynamics (to the level we studied it) was surprisingly easy.

Just sounds like a bad idea to have folks embark on a course they had no chance of coping with. Can't be economically sensible that. Might be better to offer some lower sort of qualification that would suit those 70% instead and let the smart ones, like you, plough on with the heavy stuff?

It’s D*(D24/D4).
That’s the best way I can reconcile things!
Loving the place, the apartment is really nice and the area is class, it’s close to everything, quiet, safe and it looks nice. I can’t ask for more really!
How's all in the P-household? Any more provincial sprint champs since the last time we spoke?

Spherical trigonometry is oxymoronic. Trigonometry is exclusively concerned with two dimensions. So there must be another branch of mathematics that deals with it, but sure as hell it ain't trig.

We are all good thanks. Well MasterP has a bit of a hamsting pull playing rugby which is annoying since he has 4 big athletics competitions coming up.
His LJ seems to be his best event at the moment.
The Junior Squad from his club are heading over to the UK finals of a competition in early September so very excited about that!

just had a look at those links and is all I can say.
Allthough I did shudder at reading about cosine and sine rules. I vaguely remember them from school (altho obviously not used in the same context), and I wish I didn't!

Sorry to argue once again, but trigonometry is planar. Curvilinear geometry is a different facet of maths. Probably more associated with the calculus.
Trigonometry does what it says on the tin: exploring the relationship between three points.

And that's what spherical trig does, three points with great circles as sides inside a sphere with angles adding up to more than 180 degrees

The so-called spherical trig is a bit of a misnomer. All of the referenced formuae exclude the magic number pi. (not to mention e and i).
To liken Trig and spherical trig is like finding the similarities between RU and cricket or godammit GAA football. i.e. not much.

I'll suggest hopping over the hurdles this afternoon. Just for practise like. Since it was your idea it'll work out just fine.

I like to keep things simple. Trigonometry is to do with angles. Spherical Trig is to do with angles on a globe. That'll do me

Pretty much Mick, as straight lines don't actually exist on a sphere your normal trig can't be used, therefore spherical trig is
But to confuse things even more. The earth isn't even a sphere, its an oblate spheroid

The spherical trig is a branch of mathematics which is important when calculating stuff like the greater circle etc,
But to be honest when reflecting on my posts over the last month or so, I'd have to ask if Portnoy's slates are just loose or the roof's off.
I must sign off for a week or so. (mainly because I've started referring to myself in the third person (which can't be good)).

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
How do friends and foes.
ain't been in much lately. I suspect it will remain that way until September.
Decent enough. would rather see McFadden in and around the french squad... if he wasn't then I would have prefered to see him at 10 for Connacht to see what he can do there.
Unfortunately I have a feeling Wallace will get his place on that plane instead of him now

Twinkletoes,
After Saturday do you still fear Paddy Wallace in green?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Paddy Wallace could score an exceptional individual try from inside his own half in dead time against NZ in the final and convert it and people would still have a problem with him. I am sick, sore and tired of trying to defend him especially when some of the same people advocate taking Hayes to the world cup. He must be applying for his bus pass soon no?

McFadden never had a place on the plane. He was given a shot against Scotland to show what he can do and despite defending admirably, he didn't show that he could offer anything beyond what Wallace or any of the other established players can.
Wallace has more experience and has thus far played better than McFadden in an Ireland shirt so I can't understand why people are still championing McFadden and bashing Wallace.
