The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Stag, it's how you express those opinions. Describing Welsh as a 'moribund monkey language' is offensive. Just calling it 'moribund' would be untrue, but at least it wouldn't be offensive.

Lucky I can understand people being offensive. The government has far bigger concerns that some young lad who doesn't like Welsh.
Portnoy, I am certain at this stage you are being intentionally awkward. Why the need to come in here posting that you have done so? Why the need to point out that it rocks the boat.
I really don't understand - why do you post here if you hate everything about this new forum?

Seen it, liked it.
No tease Glas. I just think its an exaggeration to get government ministers up in arms about it. Being offended by it is normal.

Saw it, hated it. Cliched & cheesey. There have been better 'authoritarian figure changes lives' films.
All a bit "MTV generation"-y for me.

and those opinions can be challenged Stag otherwise a language may die as almost happened to the Gaeilge. It's this sort of bollix that gets mered_stag wrote:Is it just me who thinks that a big exaggeration. We are all entitled to opinions.
As it says "It is often said that hatred of the Welsh is the only remaining form of acceptable racism. Articles like this further that perception"
I notice that reviewer is described as "Caerphilly-born writer Roger Lewis", because he certtainly no longer lives there . I'd describe him as a hypocrite - http://www.bromyard.info/latest/2858-bromyard-author-roger-lewis-invited-to-join-welsh-academy.html or a Dic Sion Dafydd

Stag, read what Lewis said again (and even your own comments) replacing Welsh and Wales with Black and Africa. Then come and talk to me. Of course it is the government's business!

Hmmm. Rocking the boat may just be the very action that keeps societies keen to avoid slipping into complacency.

Exactly. Offensive comments were made about the Welsh language, I fully accept that. But there's worse stuff published on the internet daily about the Welsh - the reaction (i.e. getting the governement to intervene) seem over the top to me.

If this bloke was writing for a local paper, I'd be more inclined to agree with you, Stag. But his review was carried by a national newspaper.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Stag, Portnoys innately feels the need to rock the boat/fight the power/rage against the machine.
But given that he’s a middle aged Tigers fan he can’t really do that anymore, he’d much rather incessantly complain about an internet forum and its users, it might not seem like much but it panders to his own ego which feels like it must fight the establishment.
Leave him have his fun, people in here are far too accommodating towards those who wouldn’t condescend to return the favour.

Tidy. Really excited even though it's a friendly.
Stag, yeah you did actually. That was probably the best forfeit for you having to be complimentary about Newport and/or the Dragons. That skirt wearing freak is a genius
