The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Lionel Nallet photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

That's good then (the injury not being career ending). I'd like to see him play again before he retires - maybe with Munster. I saw him in the Six Nations this year, but I was up in the gods in the stadium.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Sorry to interrupt the doom laden evening but I've had a similar day to Asbo's the other weekend. England laying the Dublin 'thing' and playing some measured rugby from what I saw in the 2nd half.
Wasps belting the living daylights out of Treviso 54-11 with a group that haven't played much together. Nicky Robinson is looking like a leader. Also good games from Launchberry, Burton (7), Haughton, Bell and Wade.
To cap it Ealing's first foray into National 1 resulted in a resounding 35-3 away win at Birmingham & Solihull.
My teams 109 the oppo 23

I missed the match, I saw the second try there. Great kick through but poor enough defending. I'm disappointed.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I'm very disappointed by the structures put in place by Ireland in attack and our basic skills in terms of ball retention and clearing the ruck.
Weltschmerz; the feeling experienced by one who understands that physical reality cannot not satisfy the ideal state of affairs one holds in their mind.
We're all on a downer now. We look clueless with the ball.

Been fun reading you guys going for each other;thank goodness there are only 4 rugby provinces in Ireland-we'd have to start up a new board
It's only a game(and no Shankley commentaries ,thanx);Ireland's national debt is much more worrying.

I would also say that Kidney is getting it in the neck here; remember he delegates a lot of responsibility to Gert Smal and our attack coach Alan Gaffney. So those are two names I haven't seen mentioned; even if the buck stops at the top, you're only as good as the coaches around you. And this is no EOS one-man band; these guys have a very big say.
I always said I would wait until after the World Cup to judge this coaching team, but I'm very worried. I am glad Gaffney is going after the RWC because our ability to attack off structured play is so far behind the top teams.

Frustration I think. We're all very frustrated that under-performance has become a pattern. Hopefully the brains trust and senior players can find a way to break that pattern before it's too late.

The sky seems to still be outside. I can still feel my toes. My nose is still stuffed. And tomorrow is still Sunday. So the world hasn't ended.
We lost to England at home for the first time in 8 years. We looked toothless in attack and have suffered a bad injury blow. Yet the World Cup hasn't started yet, so our dreams haven't ended yet either.

Yeah, lets not lose perspective. If we get past USA, Russia and Italy we get to start again in the knockouts. That last game is going to be a thriller!

I'm not giving up on it, I just think it's a long shot. It's sort; anything can happen. But yes, unless we find a few extra gears in attack we won't win. We need to work exceptionally hard for our scores; one missed tackle and they can score.
But yeah... you never know.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
The fact that Ireland's regional teams have all been successful does not necessarily mean that Ireland will be great, it merely shows depth of the country.
It is the same in the super XV, it hardly ever dictates perfomances in the Tri Nations, it merely shows a country has depth.
The fact is there is a difference in the level from club rugby to test rugby, and when players need to make that step up it is not so easy, at club rugby these individuals can perform well but when faced at a level where there is less time and space to do the same things it automatically becomes more difficult.
Ireland may have more players in positions with class, but that doesn't mean they are better. Take the BOD scenario, there still isn't anyone better than him in his position even though three Irish regional teams are formidable in their leagues.

Evening all
Not seen the game but chuffed with the result. Gutted for Wally, hate seeing players miss out through injury. Had a great day watching my nephews in their tennis tournament, finished second and fourth in their respective age groups.
Now enjoying a pint of Fursty Ferret with my bro in law and watching X Factor. Can't beat a bit of trash tv on a Saturday night.

I see Clifton (Bristol) came second - that'll upset them.
By way of a piece of useless information, the parliamentary constituency in which Clifton is, has the highest proportion of PhDs of any constituency in the country.

That it is Cymro. My brother used to play for Llandeilo RFC (as did Rhys Priestland) and I used to go watch them play a lot. THey aren't too bad a rugby side really.
It's definitely gone a bit more up market over the last 5-10 years or so.
Kia - does it really? guess that makes it one of the brainiest parts of the UK then.

It's right by the University, Dreamer, and there are parts of it which are student residences; but it also has some of Bristol's snobbier private schools and there are a lot of Cliftonites who are seriously up their own ...
To be fair, it also has what I consider to be Britain's most beautiful bridge - Brunel's suspension bridge over the Avon Gorge.
http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=clifton+suspension+bridge&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=HOl&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&prmd=ivnsm&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=TVdZTpjKHMTKhAez-uwi&ved=0CEkQsAQ&biw=1175&bih=639
Beautiful from whichever angle you look at it. It was the location of the first bungee jump by the Oxford Uni "Dangerous Sports" Club.
Sadly it is also a much favoured spot for topping oneself and has the Samaritans' phone number posted on both piers. In the nineteenth century a woman jumped off and was "saved" by her crinoline dress which acted as a parachute. She lived to a ripe old age of about 80 something.

Flock Ireland and England. I played so well today for the firsts. I'm on top of the world. No better feeling when you walk off a pitch knowing you have done well. Maybe, just maybe I might be a first team player for a while. Down to me, but I am still buzzing after today.
