Can I ask the regs that have met me a question? I was asked over the weekend if I'd ever thought about doing voiceovers. Seemed like a bonkers suggestion to me but then everyone's voice sounds different to themselves than it does to others. What do people think? Research seems to suggest that regional accents (north of England, Welsh, Scottish, etc.) are reassuring, so I say go for it!

Interesting point Asbo, when I worked in a tuxedo shop in Boston I was always told to compliment the customers when they came out of the changing room because they’d believe anything that was said in my accent. Now, the fella who came out with trousers half way up to his knees didn’t believe me, but pretty much everyone else did.

Swanny - you could always have a listen to yourself. Record yourself reading aloud an advert or an article in a magazine something like that, and play it back. I think regional accents are favourable in some things especially if it's something like advertising a local/British product.

What do they say about west-country accents then asbo?! Or don't I want to know?!

3 weeks 4 days to go till the pub messiness kicks off

Munster, the suggestion came from a fella who works in marketing so he was talking about the voiceover field as a whole rather than a specific area. There's the obvious stuff like adverts, documentaries, animation but then there's the less public stuff like corporate vids, automated telephone systems etc. He said it's a competitive field but suggested I give it a go.

I've got the worst gob to do voiceovers for anything. I don't even have a self recorded answering message on my phone cause it sounds bad.

This rugby pub weekend is going to be immense. It's great because I keep forgetting about it and it's even more exciting every time I remember it's coming up!

I know full well what you mean. I don't have the strongest Irish accent but it makes things very different for me over here that it does at home.

Oh, did anyone watch that documentary on George Harrison over the weekend? I iPlayered the first episode yesterday, it was excellent.

Lucky the Harrison documentary was class TV

I've still got the second episode to watch, Rava, but the first was so good. The thing that hit home was how young the Beatles were - George especially - when they became the most famous musicians in the world.

Someone just asked me what I wanted for a leaving present cause they've done a collection. Having tried to guess how much they'd collect and not wanting to offend by saying something ridiculous I said a voucher. Can't go wrong with that I suppose.

Funny you should mention that Cari, I was asked to do collection for one of the lads who’s finishing up on Friday.
They’re always slagging me in this place for giving out about collections so I was pretty pished off when they asked me. we’ve decided that we’ll get a tenner from people only in our dept and then go for lunch together, no big mail sent out to half the building, no fuss, a nice few bob for him to have a drink with on Friday, happy days.

That's sounds all right Mick, they can't complain....and a tenners quite a lot! To be honest I wasn't expecting one at all for myself cause our colleagues were scattered all over the country and I'm not leaving altogether but I know my colleague here would do something. We're going for lunch on Thursday, and I got her a prez a while ago so I can give that to her.

Honestly I just ignore them. there are 29 people on the latest email. Which is now in my deleted folder.
A lad from our dept is leaving on Friday, we’ll all happily chip in, a fella from our dept’s wife had a kid last year, we all happily chipped in. but this craic of asking 30 people for money for someone who you know to see but ignores you half the time in the canteen is just a joke.

Yeah it's a bit of a cheek when it's from and for people you hardly know or speak to.

Anyway, that's me finished here doing another day of nothing. Hometime...

I'm amazed by it Mick.

I organised a whip around for a manager in the last place I worked. It was such a horrible place to be. She really improved the working conditions there and quit when they told her that this was the way things were and no manager could improve them. There was an overwhelming response.

Never had another collection in the 10 months I was there.

The best one was my nieces, who happened to be born the day before Wales played and almost beat the All Blacks in 2004. We went out to see the match, had a sweepstake on the style of the barmaids knickers (we all lost - she wasn't wearing any) had a whale of a time in a night club before breakfasting in a 24 hour steak house. Quality time with friends and family

At my second grand-daughters, my son-in-law, his brother-in-law and myself all ended up sleeping in our respective bathrooms. I woke propped against the bath with a blanket around me..... I love my wife. When I asked why she didn't wake me and let me get to bed she said the snoring was bad enough through two closed doors

Can I get some info about the earlier part of the Big Meet? Since I'm going to be in Berkshire for a party the weekend before, I thought I'd spend some time with my Aunt in Hythe during the week before heading west, but when? What's the Plan?

The Plan so far as I know it Puma is that some of us are meeting (mainly the Cardiff based regs and Stag) on the Friday evening for Blues v Edinburgh. Then on the Saturday we are all getting the train to Llanelli (with the contingent coming up from Exeter containing Asbo, Mick and co) to watch Scarlets v Munster. Think most are then heading down to Exeter for Sat night before getting a train up to Bath on the Sunday for the Bath v Leinster match, then dashing off back down to Exeter to catch the Exeter v Dragons game! Think that's about it

Interesting to note on the Scarlets fans Sportguru pool that they have all gone for the Blues. They are hugely more accurate than the 606v2 pool as well.

Puma, there's a bunch appearing at my place in Devon on Friday, ranging from Pete and myself around lunchtime, with Mick , Hoog and Aonghus in the late afternoon, I believe, possibly with Gib somewhere around there too - would love to have you turn up then too

You being an Ulster fan didn't last long then

As, would love to join up on the Friday, but (a) would that be throwing a spanner in the works for the Saturday arrangments, travel/ticket wise? and (b) feel kinda awkward inviting myself for 3 nights!! However, can't see any way of getting to Llanelli from Hythe by train in time to meet up on the Saturday. Ditto getting to Bath on the Sunday.
