The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing picture of Micky T above the bar!
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

8:30pm I believe.
Both their highlights shows will be shown again tomorrow morning from 9am as well I believe (you might want to double check Penfro's tv guide)

There's a wonderful arthouse film coming out next year, just reading some previews from the French critics in Paris- a transcendental love affair between Roman Poite and his whistle. Someone called 'iHumph' on another forum says it's brilliant.

Biarritz beat Saracens.
Can't recall the exact scores though sorry.
Ta Dreamer. It's 6-0 to Aus in the 4N Final. I 'm glad I didn't stay up for the cricket - we're phocked!

The story of a man and his whistle. And the tiny bits of rugby that happen in the background. A heartwarming tale for all the family!
Strange, strange game.

Breaker, I've heard the odd bit about the cricket - didn't Australia get skittled out and then the Proteas get skittled out themselves?

A fair bit of dropped ball in the league. A few high shots from both sides.

The difference between 60's films and modern day:
John Wayne is Ethan Edwards. He's by the camp fire brooding:
"that wasn't Lucy, it was a buck wearing Lucy's dress. I found Lucy in the canyon, wrapped her up in my old red coat and buried her with my own hands. Thought I'd try keep it from you.
Lucy's boyfriend: was she...had they...
John Wayne: DO YOU WANT ME TO SPELL IT OUT FOR YOU, DRAW YOU A PICTURE! Now don't you ever ask me that again, as long as you're alive, NEVER!

Penalty try to England from Ryan Hall... fair enough call from the Oz ref...nearly took his head off - probably explains why he couldn't get the ball down.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Why didn't any of them just go for Tuillagi's legs though??
9-9 HT, soooo close. Neither side getting any momentum with all the knock ons. Wonder who's going to click first in the 2nd half??

Dreamer, I don't know if you have played rugby but trying to take down a fella who is 18 stone and is very fast is pretty difficult!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Even so, Thomond, some of the tackling you see these days isn't clever. Some Munster player beat about four Castres players in the ealier game, but they were tackling up by his shoulders.

It's better to hit at or below his centre of gravity. They can't go without their legs. Trust me I've bounced off the best!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I agree with you luckless, if you think the tackling in rugby is bad go check out the NFL and more specifically the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It is diabolical. It's great if you can make a play with the ball in the NFL but you're going to have to tackle unless you intercept or knock down every pass!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I think Wales showed against Ireland how effective tackling players by the legs are. And didn't Paterson do some cracking tackles going for the legs in the 6N's last year?
I just don't get why players don't do it more often.
And no, I've never played. Ha, reckon if I got tackled even once I'd have to be stretchered off!

Standing up for the Ulstermen.
Have to hand it to Hughie. He shouted for Munster in the pub and now he is the choirmaster at Welford Road.

Even better to have someone else up top to prevent the offload as well. Trust me; no legs, no arms... you can't really do much!

Dreamer, the dichotomy is that if you go for the legs, then the arms/ball is freed,go for the bust and they keep moving til help arrives.

Feel we're just a little bit too predictable in midfield to open the Tigers up. We need to start looking for the drop; Tigers discipline has been immaculate. Humphreys missed pen was a real blow.

Agree with this. I wrote them off but they did well
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
It's very reminiscent of the quarter-final- so, so close to being the level to win places like this but agonisingly short. We've done ourselves and the Ulster shirt proud. May not be enough. Unless- something. A wee miracle.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
There's absolutely zero complaints from this Ulster fan. We nilled Clermont after half time last week through sheer guts and determination. This week they've done the same to us. We leave with nothing, and in truth the scoreline is a fair reflection- no matter how well we played.
Gutted to miss out on a bonus point, but you can see the potential in this Ulster team.
Big hand for Leicester Tigers
