The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing picture of Micky T above the bar!
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Ulster regs - , huge effort from you guys, so with you'd gotten at least a lbp. Should still be proud of that performance though.
Tigers really stepped it up 2nd half though, fair play to them.

Leicester's defence was solid, wasn't it? It was always going to take something special to open them up.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Unfortunately with Pienaar, Wallace and Payne on the treatment table some of our most inventive backline players were on the treatment table.
Spence and Cave are good players, but we didn't have much variety. It's not a very balanced centre partnership. One thing people don't realise about Wallace is he can play first receiver- that gives Humphreys the license to roam into wider channels. We joke, but he is a cog who is often unnoticed but always important to the way we play the game. By what he allows the players around him to do as much as what he does himself.
Spence and Cave hitting it up and going to ground was never going to generate the kind of quick ball you need to break a defence like that down.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
So annoyed.
Not only did we lose but we missed the end of the game as one of the kids managed to blow one of the fuses and the sky box went down!
Who in the name of all that is wonderful needs to switch on the outside lights 7 mins form the end of an Ulster HEC match?????
Why did you want to look outside right then??????
Looking at the final score Tigers must have scored a penalty at the end. Did I miss anything important?

No, it was all fairly inevitable. One great thing was Adam Macklin coming on for his very first taste of European rugby and winning a penalty from Leicesters dominant scrum five metres from his own line!
But apart from that, Leicester closed it out beautifully.

That is good to hear about Macklin. Him and Jackson had just come on when the lights went out.
The scrum was a worry wasn't it although it was also a bit of a lottery.
Good to know we have some talent coming through. I mean I knew because I 've seen Macklin and McAllister but great for them to get a taste of HEC rugby.
And Paddy Jackson too. 19 and playing HEC rugby at Welford Road.

Was Paddy misbehaving?
Actually, Paddy Jackson isn't really ginger. Not compared to a lad who played for ? Irish Schools this last season. I can't remember the childs name but he has the brightest orange hair that I have EVER seen!
Notch will know who I'm talking about.

I reckon we could be close to fielding an entire team of coppertops.
Might be a while till my own wee ginganinja is ready but think how effective they would be on a sunny day! The reflected glare cutting the eyes out of the opposition!

Evening folks
Not seen any rugby but have seen the results. Looks like ROG is intent on dragging Munster in to the knockout stage, going to be two monster games against the Scarlets next month.
Commiserations to Ulster, whatever Leicesters recent form Welford Road is always a tough place to go.
Wonder what tomorrows games will throw up.

Yeah, we didn't play badly but now we need to be flawless!
Commiserations to Irish mate. So hard to play with 14 men for most of the game and it sounds like they ran them bloody close.

Am with Notch on this, really sounds like you ran the Blues close, especially being down to 14. Haven't had a chance to watch those highlights properly yet though, am hoping to catch them in the morning.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
cheers mateys, been a disappointing couple of weeks as an Exiles fan, so many basic errors and we are running out of players who can play in the centres now as well.
Big game next week against London Wasps, must win that to get a bit of confidence back and make sure that we hang in there in the AP table until after Christmas and then hopefully put a decent run together as we get some players back.
Your pool is still wide open Notch, between yourselves, ASM and Tigers, although you probably could have done with an LBP today.
dreamer, you must be made up with how the Scarlets are going. You will note of course I tipped them to win the pool before it started, massive double header for you next month, and with a pub contingent there as well for the home leg.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Ah Pete, I'm just so nervous about those ones already. We'll have so little time as a squad to prepare for it.
It'll be mental though, Y Parc should be bouncing. I'm going to be in a state just getting to the stadium, because we'll be leaving it a little bit late to get a good spot on the terracing for such a big group of us, I usually like to get to Y Parc at least an hour in advance!
If our forwards keep playing like they have for the last 4 games, I think we're good enough to compete with anyone. We showed yesterday what we can do off scraps of possession. yes acouple of the tries were really fortunate, but the fact is, teams now know they can't gift us anything because we will punish them.
Just....ah I dunno. Keep breaking out into a really stupid grin. It just doesn't seem real that we got the away tbp win!
And aye LI seem to be in a bit of a quandry at the moment. Hope you manage to string a few performances and wins together soon. Any news on whether Steve Shingler's been cited at all?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Yeah I have, but I need to watch it again. I can't decide whether Hewitt jumped a bit before going into contact. It certainly looked a bit odd anyway. As soon as I saw that he'd landed on his neck though, I knew Shigns was going off. There was no driving force either I don't think, but like I said I need to see it again.
You never know he might not be, Stevo managed not to get cited for his tip tackle so who knows.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I think he'll be cited, and get 3-5 weeks for it as it is flavour of the month with the authorities. I agree with what you say, that having been tackled, Hewitt twisted to try to get the ball back towards his side and his legs went up as a result. Shingler didn't have enough control of him which resulted in him going down head first.
I don't think Shingler intended it nor was there any malice. Real shame for the young lad, as he has been good for us and would have had a decent run again in the 12 shirt with Hape banned.
Not sure who will play there now, possibly Spratt, but I can see Booth moving Bowden to 12 and playing Jarvis at 10, which I think will be a huge mistake!

Shingler's a really sound guy by all acounts, and he looked shocked by what had happened. We'll see if he gets cited or not, but I think it's been great for him going to you guys. Not sure if he'd have gotten a look in with us at the Scarlets this season at all to be honest.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Looks like the back-to-back home and away fixtures next up in the Heino are going to be critical in a number of pools - they'll be contested by the top two teams in several pools:
Pool 1 - Scarlets & Munster
Pool 2 - Edinburgh & Cardiff
Pool 4 - Leicester & Clermont
Pool 5 - Saracens & Ospreys
Pool 6 - Toulouse & Harlequins
When Montpellier beat Barf and Glasgow hand Leinster their backsides, pool 3 will be the same!

Morning, from a crisp and sunny London. Christian Wade now has a regular column in The Rugby Paper - he thinks George North is one of the best wingers in the world.
Nice to see him acknowledge the Wasps travelling support for the Bordeaux game too. Hopefully we'll see him running in some more tries against Rovigo this afternoon
And the Exiles derby yesterday was a nailbiter with Scottish putting in a huge 2nd half performance to take a one point lead 4 minutes into added time. Only to concede a penalty from the restart to hand the game to Welsh with the last kick of the match.
