The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing picture of Micky T above the bar!
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

it means: an element of luck in all 4 tries. (am quite surprised as to how close Google translate got that!)
and I meant he can be quite harsh with regards to his comments about the O's. He's very quick to rip into all 4 regions though now I think of it.

Have just finished cooking my shop bought chicken stuffed with cheese, wrapped in bacon and my broccolli and cabbage and just realised I've forgotten the key ingredient; mashed potato!
Gutted.

This 11 a side Munsty? I had to play in goal today drew 2-2, but made some good saves and catches, missing 4 starters so not a bad reault. Watching some NFL now.

Evening Pete, myself and rava were chatting today, and we came to the conclusion that the only English team with a chance of winning this year would be Harliquins. Would you agree??

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Quins have started the season well for sure, but I think once the winter months set in, we may see them struggle a little, as their scrum is not the best, and their pack appears to be a bit of a fair weather one.
I genuinely can't see them going the distance in Europe this year, but I can see them possibly winning the AP.
In Europe, I would say write of the Tigers at your peril. If they can battle through to the knockout stages and get some of their big players back, they will be a test for anyone, and I still think Saracens will top their pool and be dangerous opponents in the knockout stage.
I don't think an English team will win it though. Hard to see beyond Toulouse and Leinster to be honest.

IMO Tigers or Sarries could win it but will need home advantage.
Toulouse or Leinster are the front runners. Clermont looked impressive but I think will falter in Welford Road.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Leicesters pool Pete is going to come down to bonus points. The way I see it ASM and Tigers will trade wins in the next two rounds, Ulster will only get nine points against Aroni and should hopefully beat Tigers at home. Which would leave matters on the final day as
Ulster W 4 L 1 P 17
ASM. W 3 L 2 P 15
Tigers. W 3 L 2 P 14
TThat would leave Ulster needing a win in ASM (doubtful) and Tigers hopping to get a five point haul to drop into the Amlin

Whiff of Cordite
HEC roundup:
Pool 1 is now a straight fight between Munster and the Scarlets - with Castres likely to give up from here, Munster might need to win in Stradey Park or whatever its called. Experience vs youth - 2 classics coming up methinks.
Continuing the Welsh-success theme, pool 2 has Cardiff written all over it - surely they will defeat Edinburgh twice? Racing Metro with 3 bonus points are just about still in it if they can hockey the distinctly un-likeable London Irish twice.
Leinster look to have pool 3 whacked and bagged - a bonus point by half-time was just what Joe ordered - expect 2 high intensity wins over Bath and pole position for a home quarter-final by Christmas.
Ulster are now up against it in pool 4 - the failure to get a bonus point in a disappointing match in Welford Road means there is no margin for error left. Clermont ran in a hatful of tries against Aironi - their visit to Leicester will be the key game in this pool.
In pool 5, its shaping up to be the cliff-hanger we thought it might be. In the games between the big 3, Biarritz and now Sarries have secured losing bonus points. Treviso showed they are no longer mugs, but Ospreys will probably regret not winning this weekend.
Toulouse and Quins are now fighting it out in pool 6 - Toulouse are going to qualify, and Quins will now fancy themselves as well after a crucial away win in Gloucester, who are now essentially out.

You will need to come up with some sort of explanation for this statement. You can't possibly be serious.
Before committing yourself remember Ulster should have Afoa, Piennar and Wallace back for that one. I really don't think that is a great Tigers team.

Toulouse
Harlequins
Would be a nice contrast of styles

Only allowed your feet in contact with the ground, nothing else. Take 1 standard cereal box and pick it up off the floor with your teeth. Take an inch or 2 off it after each round until its eventually just the base lying flat on the ground. Great fun.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Rava my reasoning:
- Tigers had a bad start to the domestic league without their internationals and will be giving Europe their all
- Twickenham, as a final venue, will be a massive motivator. I know the provinces will be fired up for Lansdowne Road 2013.
- They have 2 wins out of 2 so far and I think will beat Clermont at home.
- By this stage their internationals will be fully integrated into the side. I saw Castro and Ben Youngs were only on the bench against Ulster.
- They will hold no fear about Ravenhill. Tigers sacked Thomond Park's proud record. They won't worry about Ravenhill.
- They have been written off by many. A proud team, stacked with good players and the factors above will fight tooth and nail. They know how to grind out results - something Ulster don't - see this weekends defeat or last year against Saints.

At present (using current pool placings) we have the following quarter final line up...
Scarlets vs. Cardiff Blues
Edinburgh vs. Harlequins
Toulouse vs. Saracens
Leicester Tigers vs. Leinster
... with Munster, ASM and Ospreys dropping into the Amlin.
If this were to happen, I'd be supporting the Scarlets!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
You could argue that Ulster don't know how to grind out results away from home, but I think it's nonsense to say we can't do it at Ravenhill Stag.
They won't worry about Ravenhill the same way we don't worry about going anywhere; doesn't mean we win.
It depends on who is fit for us and who isn't really when you compare our squad depth. But whatever 15 men take the field, it will take something really special from Tigers. Which I agree they are capable of.

Notch who says you can't.
I am saying that your playing against a quality side with more depth who will probably want the result more than your team.

Thats an incredibly ignorant, insulting thing to say you know that?
Would you say that to the faces of the Ulster players as they prepare for a game that could decide the fate of their entire season, in front of their home fans at Ravenhill? That they wanted the result less than the visitors?
I thought better of you.

Why is that ignorant and insulting Notch?
Tigers do have more depth of quality in their squad than Ulster, and if Stag feels that Tigers will want it more than Ulster I don't see how it is insulting to say so.

Ah get down off the cross Notch and grow a pair. Its not "incredibly ignortant and insulting".
You yourself admit that Ulster will most likely lose in Clermont.
Tigers will in my opinion have won at least 4/5 games before going there and I think Ulster may be out of the running for qualifying.
Tigers may want it more.
Harlequins beat Munster in Thomond last season. To me they wanted it more than we did and played with no fear. Tigers beat us in Thomond - they wanted it more than we did.
Its not questioning your players or anything of the sort. Give over whinging cos I said Ulster would lose a match. We didn't act this way when people said Saints would beat in Thomond.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I think it's disrespectful to the players is all Pete. And if he had said it in the vast majority of Heineken Cup seasons I'd be forced to grudgingly agree.
But I know that there is a group of around 30 players who would leave Ravenhill in an ambulance if it meant a home win for the Province now. Who would give everything in their bodies, everything in their very souls, for such a small and meaningless endeavour as this game of rugby. That would destroy themselves for the pride of this jersey at Ravenhill.
And when somebody is willing to make that kind of sacrifice, you have to respect it.
Ignorance is a lack of knowledge. And a lack of knowledge of the character of this team has certainly been displayed!
Of course, that may not be enough to win a game because i expect the Tigers to come with exactly the same focus, exactly the same desire. But I can guarantee you this; we will not leave the ground thinking "if only they had wanted it more".
To say otherwise is nothing but an insult.

Thats fair enough if you want to change topic Glas. I'm not going to apologise and I most certainly was not on a wind up.
I mean what I say. When push comes to shove it may be Tigers who wanted to win that little bit more.

Well you've given me the knowledge of how thin skinned some Ulster fans fans can be
Notch you know full well what I mean. Ulster and Tigers will both want to win. As explained I think Tigers will have more at stake than Ulster and more motivating factors. Thats all it is.
No insult to 15 Ulstermen who'd. . . .blah blah blah blah . .cut off their own arm . . . . .trade their own mother for a win . . .etc etc etc
I suggest chillax - Richie McCaw said after the RWC Final that his team wanted it more than the French - was that an insult?? Not in my mind.

In the meantime I've already written a post. I'm happy to say no more. Not really that big a deal IMO - if I'm wrong Sportsguru will punish me I would certainly like to be wrong. I prefer Ulster to Connacht or Leinster. They remind me of my own Munster.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Maybe more so than you realise.
I'll walk into a Limerick pub at the crucnch stage when qualification is on the line and suggest the players will want it much less than the opposition. The fans will all be sweetness and light
