The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Sergio Parisse and Owen Farrell above the bar.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
It's going well thanks Cari. Had a trip out with my supervisor yesterday to the other offices within the drug service. Looks like I've been lucky and landed the friendliest office! Training is taking longer than I'd anticipated and I'm at that 'I just want to be able to get on with it' stage It'll get there though. The lady who's doing my basic training is lovely and we get on really well so that's a plus. Not used to the routine though, I'm bhuggered too

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Makes a huge difference doesn't it Cari. We had a team meeting on Monday morning and, 20 minutes into it, the fella chairing it suddenly realised that he hadn't formally welcomed me. His excuse was that I'd fitted in so well he'd forgotten that I was the new girl. Part of the furniture after 8 whole days! I forgave him
Evening it does doesn't it?! Must be something in the air, or the collective power of the pub or summat. Hopefully it'll last and spread

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
It wasnt a bad read Notch. I was most in agreement with the blog holder regarding Farrelly and Sheahan.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
A bit more coherent than some of the rants on here, Notch; and no doubt entertaining for quite a few readers.
But from a neutral perspective it still just reads like a rant - against fellow 'journalists'. So, GT gets the team selection right more often than not, but gets sl*gged for it. A good journalist is supposed to have the 'inside line'.
Agree with some comments about the views of the likes of Quinny an O'Shea (I've read some good honest stuff from them), but expressing a pov on TV is not the same as trying to sell newspapers.
That's the reality of any any journalist's life, contributing to flogging the newspaper that's paying your wages. Being talked about negatively is better than not being talked about at all. People will want to read what 'that eejit' has to say this week.
Job done.

No problems with having a Deepthroat on the payroll - problem arrives when you try to make it look like the Deepthroat doesn't exist and that you fabricated the perfect team selection on the back of your cigarette box as you blew casual circles into the Westbury hotel ceiling and contemplated the specific needs of the team and the players you felt with unswerving conviction should be in the first 15 (throwing in a perfect bench 7 just as an afterthought)
Oh yeah, he gets slagged for those acting classes...and he'll continue to get it in the neck for as long as he sustains the charade.

Aye, but getting slated is part of the price you pay for being a brown-nose/shock jock/populist journo
It's part of the contract. Thornley is ultra keen to never upset any player or coach, so he holds back on writing honestly on the team. Which is a shame because he's a very readable, smart journalist. It's annoying.

He doesn't upset them because his crystal ball would quickly fog up if he did

Very, very quickly! Thorinho is a bit too close to the action to do any great journalism on the Ireland team.

Whiff of Chordite and Demented Mole. I enjoy Harpin On Rugby's really well written match reports but the first two always throw up really interesting articles outside of the normal stuff you'd read in the papers.

Welcome to my world - any time I have the slightest hint of a head cold, no voice in the morning.
Morning all. Thanks to the @$%^& Picadilly Line (myself and a team-mate missed the 1st 10 minutes of our match because we were stuck underground) we lost netball last night - playing 5 vs 7 equals a 1-8 scoreline at 1/4-time . And to add insult to injury I tweaked a hamstring running from the station to the courts so hobbled through the match.

Dan Parks would be a super signing for Connacht. An inspired one.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Hmmmm?
Undecided on that one.
Is his style of play really the way Connacht need to move?
Also, I had only just read it and wasn't sure if I was way behind the game on this.
