The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Games of the XXX Olympiad Pub, London
First topic message reminder :
The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Games of the XXX Olympiad Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
This week the pub has set up in the host city London, where we can watch the greatest athletes from all four corners of the globe compete in a multitude of Sports under the one thousand flame Olympic torch... each wearing the 5 coloured Olympic rings of blue, white (or black), red, yellow and green.
"Citius, Altius, Fortius" (faster, higher, stronger) has been the motto for the modern Olympic Games since their beginning in 1896.
(but not too high obviously!)
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Marcus Aurelius, Henri Didon, Baron Pierre de Coubertin, Sir Steve Redgrave, Cameron Van De Burgh, Marianne Vos, Murray Rose, Jesse Owens, Emil Zátopek,
Zara Phillips and her fabulous horse "Toytown" and last but not least.... Boris Johnson playing whiff-whaff against Danny Boyle.

SA having a good time in the pool.
Have we won a gold yet that doesn't involve sitting in/on your vehicle?
Lazy feicers.
Then that's it.
Bilts laymans question here. Why aren't SA more successful in athletics? You seem to produce some awesome physical specimens over there, at least in Rugby, and in a diverse range of shapes and sizes too.
Is it a cultural thing? Or does is come down to economics and resources?

Long weekend here too Hound. Off to a wedding tomorrow, which means i miss the All Ireland Quarter Final. Hope the bride and groom don't mind me wearing my jersey under my suit instead of a shirt!
I think you will find I have been championing Tibo for quite some time, one of thw rreasons I was looking forward to RTE's coverage! Feicing bandwagoners. https://www.606v2.com/t33209-olympics-day-5 Been telling the world about him since Wednseday. I suppose he is from Cork, greatness is a must not an expectation.
What do we miake of your man Hindes' claim that he fell down on purpose in the cyclling to get a restart? I think it is a bit disgusting and certainly taints their medal. He played the system like the badminton players tried to do. Ogogo got lucky too it seemed. Some boxing pundits (Bernard Dunne and Mick Dolwing) and Andy Lee said it was the wrong decision.

Money, if it isn't mainstream rugby, cricket or football, then it is up to the indiviual to find a coach and sponosorsrodders wrote:biltongbek wrote:hound, I think we are pretty much done now, we don't have many left to win any more medals, I think there are two guys in the 400 hurdles, A lady in the Javelin, Mokoena in the long jump, and Le Clos maybe a medal in the 100 butterfly.Hound_of_Harrow wrote:Le Clos wins, and through to the final.

Some stunning performance from team GB this morning, Ireland have a female 400m finalist as well so decent morning all round. Our sailer starts in another while in the Laser still first after 6 races but lead is down to 3 I think.

How about this for a stat? Jessica Ennis's time of 12:54 seconds in the 100m hurdles would have won her gold in Beijing in the individual event.

She has been superb today, she was alwyas a likely medal candidate but she has put herself in a good spot to deliver gold. Good luck to her.

The other positive is that her time in the hurdles could indicate that this is a quick track, which would be great.

Yeah, I did get the China reference, but I could see where the US coach was coming from. Claiming that the Chinese has manipulated genes in a way that could do that though, was frankly the ramblings of a madman. I hope they have because gene therapy is such a promising but complete failure of a treatment

I had a bad feeling from the moment the commentator said he was 'sure' Adlington would win. You can never be sure of anything in sport.
