The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Games of the XXX Olympiad Pub, London
First topic message reminder :
The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Games of the XXX Olympiad Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
This week the pub has set up in the host city London, where we can watch the greatest athletes from all four corners of the globe compete in a multitude of Sports under the one thousand flame Olympic torch... each wearing the 5 coloured Olympic rings of blue, white (or black), red, yellow and green.
"Citius, Altius, Fortius" (faster, higher, stronger) has been the motto for the modern Olympic Games since their beginning in 1896.
(but not too high obviously!)
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Marcus Aurelius, Henri Didon, Baron Pierre de Coubertin, Sir Steve Redgrave, Cameron Van De Burgh, Marianne Vos, Murray Rose, Jesse Owens, Emil Zátopek,
Zara Phillips and her fabulous horse "Toytown" and last but not least.... Boris Johnson playing whiff-whaff against Danny Boyle.

Thanks rodders, yeah Lucky saw that, the commentators refereed to the law that says the Umpire can call dead ball for any noise. Just prior to Smith recieving that ball, he complained to the Umpire Fin hitting the stumps is a destraction, so I assume that is why the Ump starting calling them.

What surprises / annoys me is that none of Finn's coaches have done anything about his hitting the stumps before now. I know Shaun Pollock used to do it, but only very occasionally.

Gutted for those two GB rowers, heard it was a great race with those pesky South Africans winning again. Went to the doctors this morning so had to get bloods done, might skip the gym today. Rest day after 3 days of training and golf/beach volleyball on Sunday.
Hope you are all wel land for those who can get RTE2 put it on. The best commetator, those who might have played NBA Jam, this guys is the real life version. Timmy McCarthy, Cork and Basketball Legend. Downtown!

Did anyone else catch the 77kg Weightlifting yesterday? It was fantastic, very exciting and Lu Xiaojun (Chinese lifter) won the gold, setting two world records. They were his own world records he beat too.
If you have the time, go and watch it on iplayer or something! For Xiaojun alone, he has a unique style of lifting and he is so exciting to watch. He is possibly my favourite lifter.

Think I saw it alright, it's interesting enough to watch, cool to see the little men with so much power, they make it look pretty easy. They're all the size of NFL running backs really. Makes you realise why guys who are only 5'6 or 5'8 are succeeding in what is an incredibly physical sport (AF I'm talkling about for the last bit)

I've watched the odd bit of the weightlifting. I was surprised to hear Non Evans as the co-commentator, she played rugby for Wales women but I didn't know she was a weightlifter. (I assume she was a weightlifter if she's commentating on it.)

I used to run middle distance and cross country, CJ. This was when I was at school. I had the school record for cross-country, although I doubt it still stands.

England take a wicket at last! Smith caught Bell bowled Bresnan.
The only problem is that it brings Hashim Alma to the wicket...

Thomond, after Amla scored about 10,000 runs in the first Test, that's a big wicket to have taken!

Ah he was the fella who broke the SA record? Hit around 300? No a bit about it but the amount of innings and stuff in 5 day leaves me a bit lost.

It means things are poised nicely now. Another wicket or two now and England will fancy their chances of a first-innings lead. But if those are the only wickets take today, it's a poor return after choosing to bowl.
