First topic message reminder :

Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.

The Pub has made its way to The Patch - a tiny rugby union* community nestled in the Dandenong Ranges east of Melbourne in the week before the AFL Grand Final.

The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Willie Falloon, Joel Conlon, Peter Murchie, Lewis Jetta, Lance "Buddy" Franklin and Frazier Climo.

Mrs P - Yeah I was there, it was very emotional. It focused a lot on Nevin's faith. Rory Best also did a very fitting tribute to him. It is just amazing to see the influence that Nevin Spence has had on so many people. His family, his friends, his fans. As many people have already said, he genuinely will not be forgotten. The impact he, and his family, have had on the whole Ulster team, the fans and the whole community is just huge.

Thomond - I hope your sister is doing okay, how is she doing now?

Not too bad Rors, my parents are heading up there now first one she has had in a while but I suppose they are never easy.

Nice to see a good turnout for Spence, missed the early stages of the match yesterday but did Munster sing SUFTUM? Didn't hear it when I was watching from around 25 minutes in or so

MrP said it was a great service indeed Rory.

Here is Rory Best's tribute to Nevin and his family.

Yeah it was very good, the turnout was excellent also.

Thomond - I don't remember hearing them sing it, though the silence for the Spence's was phenomenal, as you would expect in Thomond Park.

Glad to hear that the service for the Spence's was a success. Saw some photos on Ulster's FB feed.

Just watching Scrum V. Interesting interview with Aled Brew and Mike Phillips ahead of the Basque derby next weekend - they'll be playing each other. Can see why they live down there - looks like a gorgeous part of the world. My only gripe is the production insists on playing stupid music all over the interviews. Could hardly hear Brew - he's softly spoken as it is. Have a word with the editors, Scrum V. Rolling Eyes

Had an enjoyable weekend. Munster made shoite out of Dragons. An impromptu 4am night last night. Woke up early today and shook off the hangover by refereeing an enjoyable game. Watched the All Ireland final. And now a movie, popcorn and hot chocolate on the couch to follow shortly.

BTW before the All Ireland started I wanted Mayo to win. But Im glad they lost as they showed too much thuggery for my liking.

Staggy - I thought Mayo were terrible. They should've got two goals, but they cocked up both chances.

What film you going to watch?

Stag - put some links up to the Fenby try that wasn't if you wanted a look at it on the Scarlets match thread.

And LotR part 1 is a v good choice OK

lack of sleep starting to catch up with me now, wish Downton Abbey was on now instead of at 9! I am a very sleepy Dreamer.

Just seen it. Complete accident I reckon but still a definite penalty and therefore penalty try.

These things look worse in slow motion. At full speed its an easy thing to happen.

OK

Didn't really think it was deliberate as I think he went to check if Fenby was okay afterwards, just couldn't understand why he led with his arm like that in the first place.

Just watching the Grand Prix highlights, looks like it was another exciting race, fair do's this year has been good so far.

He was trying to push him into touch as Fenby was sliding. As I say watching this is slow motion makes it look bad but really there were two lads running for same space with one diving low. These things happen

Don't see how a swinging arm is going to push someone into touch myself Stag to be honest, tisn't really a pushing motion, ya know? Smile Just think it's really poor/dangerous technique.

I dont think its a "swinging arm". I think he simply misjudged the timing of it. If it was me I would want to use my right should to push and then try wrap with the right arm in order to upset the grounding/offloading.

But what happened was that Fenby dived downwards meaning the Ospreys lad struck him in the head.

Its a penalty but really think you are making too much of it.

Aye, perhaps. Emotions still running pretty high on it, just don't like people approaching any sort of contact like that, I just don't see how with that arm motion any sort of wrap around would have been possible is all.

Decision made - Bakewell Tart for moi. Yum.

Just imagine it in real time. Fenby is running in at full height, Ospreys player is running at him with intention of smashing him into touch. Fenby dives down, Osprey hits him. Rugby is a contact sport.

In slow motion it all looks so easy. But that all happens in about 2 seconds.

Hi dreamer its all a bit of a blur, very emotional. Glad I went to pay my respect to the Spences and also to the club who have shown such courage and dignity in incredibly difficult circumstances.

Hopefully the club can focus on the rugby now but Nevin Spence will never be forgotten.

Good man stag, I'd expect nothing less from you man guinness.

I heard lot of the Leinster and Munster squad where there too.

At the end of the ceremony, just after the Reverend and choir left there was a silence and then people stated leaving. Then this applause broke out followed by a rendition of stand up for the ulster men. It was unbelievably emotional.

Anyways I hope everyone had a good day and didn't watch too much wendyball Smile
