The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Taihape
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made its way to Taihape - The Gumboot Capital of the World!
http://www.taihape.co.nz/
We also welcome our newest member, Amber ...who no doubt will have an interest in those boots!
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Aaron Smith, Topsy Ojo, Jason Shoemark, Tom Rees, Gonzalo Garcia, Leo the Leinster Lion and Lalakai Foketi up on the wall.

No I did not Cari, but before you go any further, answer this;
Does the aforementioned Clark's pie have both a case and a lid?

The best pie I had at any sports ground was the steak pie at Firhill the season before last. Not the biggest pie, but it was full of proper chunks of steak, rather than a few lumps of dubious meat and (mostly) gravy.

MrsP that just shows how inaccurate Wiki is. I've never ever looked at a pizza and thought it was a pie...and I know Dean Martin sang
"When the moon hits your eye, lika biga pizza pie..." in the song:

Yeah, I got it now MrsP, you're offering this up as some sort of corroborating evidence to the argument that pies don't have to have a lid to be a pie?
And this is from some publication that classifies pizza as a pie... and this is in some way to be considered an authority on the subject?
I don't think so.

So, is it a pie if it doesn't have pastry base and sides but does have a pastry lid?
You really want to be broadening those horizons PJ?
Think of all the wonderous offerings you are rejecting out of hand because of your frankly sectarian point of view.

Nope, not had the pleasure of a Clark's. Before hitting the train home on the Sunday after last years HC final, I did bag two Welsh lamb and redcurrant pasties from the specialist pie/pasty shop just across the road from The Prince of Wales.
Yum!

These are ersatz pies, they are clearly misnomers in every sense, they cannot and must not be trusted.
Pasties are made from a single piece of pastry folded over.
Pies have a case and they have a lid, anything that does not have BOTH and yet claims to be a pie, should be hunted down with torches and pitchforks and denounced as a monster of Frankenstein.
That is all.

Hi Rava, will be popping to the Post Office this week bud - things have been a bit hectic for the last 8/9 days and I just haven't had the chance.
Got to send one to Biltong too so I'll get them both packed and posted before the weekend.

Now I think you're getting the wrong end of the stick here, at no stage did I suggest I didn't like Cottage Pie (for example), but merely that I do not, under any circumstances consider it to be a pie, it's a fake, an imposter, a wannabee, it's just a name without substance - much like Buffalo Wings.

Steak and cheese, a New Zealand classic (in NZ we don't really do kebab shops, instead you take your chances with a pie out of the pie warmer at a 24 hour service station).

Pedant. I actually meant the pie with the steak and cheese filling, would be good enough on it's own, the other's would be the cherries on top... of the pie.
How is it you "take your chances" then Pete? Do you not know what flavour the pies are till you bite, or are some better quality than others?
Rava, good work fella. It's a terrible killer, two of my mates have lost their dads in the last 12 months to it, both sparkies.

Service station pies are frequently poor quality. And have often been in the pie warmer a long time. Depending on the pie warmer they may be cold in the middle, or (worse) tongue-blisteringly hot. But after a lot of lager ...

I dunno PJ, can you imagine drunks in Engerlund paying more for a gourmet kebab at 3am.
There is talk of Georgie Pie (an NZ fast food chain that went broke in the mid 90s) being revived via an alternate menu at McDonalds http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgie_Pie

PJ currently there are around 5000 deaths per year in the UK attributed to asbestos. That figure continues to rise and is expected to peak around 10,000 per year by 2020. Those statistics are quite frightening given that asbestos was finally banned in 1999.
