The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Pyongyang
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The pub has made its way to Pyongyang in a bid to persuade Kim Jong Un to pack away the missiles, grab a beer and watch the rugby.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Donal Walsh, Chris & the late Hannah Eaton, the retiring Marcus Horan, the recently hospitalised Schalk Burger (with meningitis), the recuperated Jacques Burger, and the three-peating ANBL champion NZ Breakers

Breaker, I don't know what the split's going to be. Not to worry though, you only have a day to wait!
They've already announced the captain here on the radio today. A very reliable source... Nearly drove across a roundabout!
No, I'm not too worried. Que sera sera. I just feel sorry for all of you guys being on tenterhooks these last few weeks.
Settling down to a bit of Monday Night football. Already a try against the run of play. The Panthers have some fit looking cheerleaders.
Morning all. I love the live text commentary on the SMH website Lb. 20-12 at h/t.
Ahead of the Lions trip I am going to check out SMH to keep more abreast of Aussie news than the virtually non-existent coverage we (don't) get here.

Good game so far, Hound. End to end stuff. No quarter given between these 2 arch rivals. Try to James Segeyaro. 26-12.
The SMH is OK... some of the journos can get a little carried away with things but the odd article from an ex-player is usually worth the read.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Pyongyang
Morning all,
Went out for a 2 hour bike ride yesterday lunchtime, feeling it a bit today!
I managed to catch both Heino semis, and most of Leinster's semi at the weekend, as well as a couple of Super Rugby games (shame the Crusaders were on at stupid o'clock, though apparently JOC made us look a bit silly at times). By the time I squeezed in a 2 hour phone call to a certain Kiwi lass, and a friend's birthday lunch in Richmond there wasn't much of the weekend left!
Reading back re. the peanut thing, I was on an Easyjet flight to Cyprus once where they announced they weren't going to sell any food due to there being someone severly allergic to nuts on board.
And g'day Munsty!

Glas/Ozzy, are either of you around to do a podcast tomorrow night on the Lions selection?
Red Stag is in, and ideally I'd love to have all 4 of us on.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Pyongyang
Twas the night before Lions selection, when all through the eve,
Only Gatland was sleeping, with some tricks up his sleeve
BOD, POC and Sam all sat in their chair,
With dreams of captaincy, flowing through their hair
Farrell weeped, and cried in his kitchen,
Hoping Wilkinson didnt take his position.
Beside his name, Robshaw hopes theres a tick,
Along with Madigan, Hogg and Tipuric
Wade could run faster than the plane,
Causing Gatty more of a selection pain
And then there’s Heaslip, consistency’s the word,
Folk saying he’s not going; don’t be absurd
Halfpenny’s kicked himself there,
While Youngs has proved better than Care
Tuilagi could bosh a rhino out of his way,
The same could be said for O’Brien on any day
Healy and Best will be partners in crime,
Unfortunate to say, its past ROG’s time
Jones and Coles will battle for three,
And Neil Jenkins will marshal the tee
Ryan and O’Mahony could also be in with a chance,
Only if they can pick a fight at first glance
Despite all the drama, the choices and speculation,
It’s without a doubt, we’ll silence the Aussie nation.

Seriously, Glas? I would actually pay good money to see Peter Thomas and Roger Lewis fighting like girls over Sam Warburton.

Forwards: Matt Stevens (England) Mako Vunipola (England) Dylan Hartley (England) Tom Youngs (England) Geoff Parling (England) Tom Croft (England)
What! The guy was a hooker for crying out loud! Did he have a quota of Englishmen prescribed by Sky?
I suggest Paul James, Grant, Rhys Gill, Mike Ross, D Ryan, K Owens, Best, even Ross Blydi Ford, Kelly Brown and Johnie Beattie can be rightly furious!
Backs are OK

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Pyongyang
I think if there was ever a squad to pour cold water over anticipation of a tour, that was it.
People are buck-whiling about the forward selection (and rightly so) but for me the excitement of hearing the exciting back three options was cooled by the time he got to the end of the halfbacks... they'll never see the ball in space.
In every position, every tight call has gone to the bosh merchant. This is a team of one-dimensional ball carriers. There are only two 10s, and only one of them who can be said to have a passing or running game. Two of the three 9s first instinct is to pick and go themselves and attack around the fringes. Two of the centres are crash ball merchants, Jonathon Davies first instinct is to run and his passing has often let him down in the test match arena. BOD is a creator, but not really a distributor.
The tight five is dominated by ball carriers. Stevens, Vunipola, Hibbard, Hartley, Healy, Gray. A good scrum can be the key to undermining any Aussie challenge but it all rests on the shoulders of Dan Cole now; we've chosen to leave scrum specialists at home in favour of more ball carriers.
It's a pretty one-dimensional squad, a squad that only knows how to play one way. The way Wales have tried to beat Australia again and again, only to see their one-dimensional approach fall apart- again and again.
Now Australia know exactly whats coming at them and how we're going to play, they have weeks to prepare. We've left a lot of talent that would give us some flexibility at home. Advantage Aussies.

I'm not going to comment on the squad - in truth, I'm nonplussed by it - but I'm disappointed with the BBC's focussing on Wilkinson missing out. You'd think that England's current captain missing out would be more newsworthy than a player who plays neither for England nor in England.
