The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Pyongyang
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The pub has made its way to Pyongyang in a bid to persuade Kim Jong Un to pack away the missiles, grab a beer and watch the rugby.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Donal Walsh, Chris & the late Hannah Eaton, the retiring Marcus Horan, the recently hospitalised Schalk Burger (with meningitis), the recuperated Jacques Burger, and the three-peating ANBL champion NZ Breakers

Off out...
That's fine Cari. It's only natural you'd want that. So you'll be having a few late nights in June & July then?
Are the matches going to be played in the afternoons local time, Breaker? (Or anyone else who knows.) I have fond memories of being woken up in the early hours by my dad to watch the 1989 Test matches being played in blazing sunshine. Give me that any day than getting up at 8 a.m. to watch a floodlit match.

Exactly. Will never forget the Campo debacle leading to Ieuan Evans' try whilst eating my cornflakes. The tragedy was Jiffy had gone North before that tour.

One of the best players the Lions never had. We see Jiffy and Guscott together as pundits, but Jiffy with Robert Jones inside him and Guscott outside - that would have been potent.

Can you imagine the bravura attack minded outside half play of the 88 Tripple Crown on those hard pitches?

The games start at 8:00pm here, Lucky - so 11am for you. The club matches start at 7:30pm here or 10:30am in the UK.

An 11 o'clock kick-off time for the Tests is great news for the pubs, though.

They opened the pub at 8:45am in Budapest back in '05... surreal atmosphere.
I asked the manager the night before: "Are you sure you'll be open?"
Of course... of course we are!
Great!

What are you expecting from the Wallabies, Breaker? I've seen the odd bit of the Super 15, but I've heard that the Australian sides are going great guns.

yeah. (sorry deleted that bit)
It works out roughly $30 for 41 sporting events.
3 x AFL, 22 x NRL + Finals/GF, Oz v Iran/Oman WCC, 2 x SXV, Lions, S.O.O. 1 & 3, Bledisloe Cup, Man U v All Stars, some Int'l cricket matches, etc... plus reciprocal arrangement with MCG for AFL (not 2nd Lions though)

£825 for this year, £500 each year thereafter. Very good deal if you like sport.
Going along this Friday to watch Bulldogs (my new 'local' team) v Tigers.
So easy to get to from here. Transport is excellent.

Never mind the allegation, William Roache is a lousy actor, isn't he?
Why is it that long-serving soap actors are among the worst actors? That one who plays Ian Beale, for example. There have been better actors on EastEnders who they've let go, but him, they keep.

Cheers mate
Glas was on the landline rather than a Skype line which may make a difference - I had to spend an hour or so last night amplifying everyone's audio (except mine) in the soundfiles - I think I was too close to my microphone.
Joys of the new laptop and Windows 8 , things don't work quite the same as they used to mutter mutter.

Ok Irish regs.................... I'm looking at Dublin hotels (either the red cow moran, the regency or the louis fitzgerald) to stay in.....any of them have good/bad reviews.
Also, if I go with one of them we'll probably look at using the Lua's.....are they reliable/any good etc?
This is for the weekend after the heiniken and amlin finals so it won't be as crowded we hope!
Cheers

I stayed at Red Cow for last years Heino semi, can't remember the hotel. Really handy for the Luas. Had the car broken into though at the hotel overnight along with quite a few other guests, apparantly round there is notorious for it so beware....

I read that the current broadcasters will keep their coverage rights and the the Sky matches will be additional. If that's the case, it's not a bad thing.
Unless, as is likely, Sky will have the pick of the fixtures.

Sky are moving to cover BT - if they can't have the Aviva, and there's a cloud over the HEC then they want some alternate rugby content.

Not cynical, just accurate really. It's not clear how much of a priority the Pro12 is going to be for them though.
Wanted to share this- Paddy McAllister of Ulster has set up and is coaching a Sevens side in memory of Nevin, Graeme and Noel Spence. The goal is to raise money for various charities including Northern Ireland Kids for Cancer, which Nevin Spence was to be a patron of.

With the Carrick Sevens coming up this weekend, it would be lovely to see them doing well.

Good evening All
Have neglected my laptop of late....there's a long weekend coming and some rugby so that should make up for it. Hope everyone's grand.
I have mixed feelings about Sky purchasing the rights to P-12 matches. I'm hoping it'll be of huge benefit to the clubs - especially the Italians. Also to the Welsh regions meaning they won't be at the mercy of the WRU so much financially and more people will go to games now that they're not free on TV. The big bummmer for me is that I'll have to give in and get Sky, but that might not be such a bad thing, and it won't be until 2014.
Good news about the RWC 2015 matches coming to the MS as well

Evening, folks. Just seen the timetable for tomorrow night. What?? All matches kicking off at the same time on the same night?? Why, please?
In other news, Mr Puma has now been in the pub (13th hole) with his golfing buddies for ..erm.. 4 hours. Suppose that the upside of this is I could serve him a bowl of cornflakes for his evening meal when he does eventually turn up, and he would be completely oblivious. Sigh.

Evening pubbers.
Puma, I thought it has been the case for a while that the last round of matches kick off at the same time. This is to avoid the potential for a team knowing what they need to do to a) win the league b) make the play offs c) HC qualification and d) avoid relegation.
N.B. the last two scenarios don't (usually) apply to the Rabo.
I'll just slip out quietly.

Hotdogs smell better when you are a neutral. Quite an unusual feeling sitting with the Bulldogs faithful. Benji's back but it will be good to see Benny Barba in action.

It's all about money, of course; but it's just sad seeing another obstacle placed in the way of 'lesser' nations. We say we want to spread the game but then give a helping hand to (one of) the established sides.
