The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Pyongyang
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The pub has made its way to Pyongyang in a bid to persuade Kim Jong Un to pack away the missiles, grab a beer and watch the rugby.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Donal Walsh, Chris & the late Hannah Eaton, the retiring Marcus Horan, the recently hospitalised Schalk Burger (with meningitis), the recuperated Jacques Burger, and the three-peating ANBL champion NZ Breakers

It was usually the seal club.
Bore da pawb / good morning all. I wanted to stay up to watch the Masters, but I'd been in Swansea and didn't get back 'til around 10ish. Bet you're chuffed to have an Aussie in a green jacket, Breaker!

Yes I am, Lucky.
It's sort of like our Olympic Team outfit (in a way) so it looks kind of natural on him.
What were you up to in Swansea? At your sister's place?

We went to the hospital first, then helped mother and baby move back home. She's amazing. A full head of thick black hair!

Some fairly disturbing images coming out of Boston this evening. Thoughts go out to all concerned.

All the squabbling over O'Connell doesn't matter a shoite in the grand scheme of things.
I would have been quite young for 9/11 so this is rather surreal, I have been to Boston, and have family outside Massachussettes, great hard working people. If there's one thing America does well it's unite in times of crisis. Those reports of runners running straight to the hospital to give blood show the two contrasting sides of humanity tonight.
Thoughts and prayers go out to those in Boston.

Yeah wg. Three bombs so far. Reports of three dead, and 20+ injured. Bombing civilians - I've never understood that tactic from any group. It never works politically.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Pyongyang
You're right the POC thing, it's not life or death. I'm with Hound, I don't get it. America is the best and worst country in the World. I've unfriended a farmer on Facebook as, although he was a decent bloke, he had mad views on guns. It's only so many memes in support of their gun laws you can ignore before you have enough. It's a pity, I've never unfriended anyone before and he puts up some informative Agri stuff.
It may not be the time to discuss it, but there are two wider implications of the POC business. Forget the incident, I'm talking about the aftermath. I'm guilty of this myself and I know I'm a hypocrite, but it really isn't good enough to tear into people on social networks about something so emotive. The soccer-isation of our game will be complete when the relationship between rival fans decends to the primal, prejudiced, vitriolic contempt that rival football fans show each other. I'm not talking about the pub or the regs. Some things I saw from both sides elsewhere were football-esque. I don't like it. There is a difference between arguing your team's case in a heated manner and just hurling jaundiced insults which add nothing to the debate.
And the second thing is the farce of the citing commissioner. It reminded me of Hot Fuzz, where the 'common good' is used to bend the rules and society ends up in chaos. In that instance quite surreally funny, but it's a metaphor, like. The establishment has thought "damn it, he's got big European games coming up and a chance to play into the Lions captaincy, we can't cite him". That is bad enough, they should just quietly not cite and be damned, but then to try to justify the non citing with reference to the incident, acting as if you were the disciplinary board when thats not your job, is worse as it just shows that they know he should be cited and they know there will be a fuss if he isn't.
It's another example of the amateurish shambles that is the administration pf the Rabo.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Pyongyang
Morning all,
Glas, I have a US FB friend who's gun nut stuff is getting tiresome - though it's balanced slightly by the anti-gun stuff another US FB friend posts (back before the last US election their respective Republican/Democrat campaign postings resembled football vitriol for stridency.
I work on the Strand, the metal railings went up on the footpath yesterday for the Thatcher funeral procession. This morning I walked in to the back door (it's a nice walk through the Embankment Gardens - whereas walking on the Strand is rarely pleasant). We're next door to the Savoy so there were a couple of limos parked outside our building, and a couple of cops keeping eye on things.
All in all I'm rather glad I'm on a flight to New Zealand tonight. Though I expect security at Gatwick will be unpleasant post-Boston. Sad day over there

That's good. Should be fun!
Got a text from Mum a few hours ago from Kokonga. 116 km down, 41km to go to Middlemarch. Was a bit worried considering she's in her mid-70s. Pretty inspirational stuff.

Have a lovely time Pete
Painting ceilings is knackering! My arms feel like they're going to drop off! Got some stuff to take to the tip too, and it's heavy. That's going to be fun. Should have done it t'other way round
Your mum's got some bottle LB! good on her for taking that on

Be careful with the heavy lifting, Swanny.
Yeah, painting is hard on the arms. Hate it when you take all precautions and you still get a fine spray of paint in the eyes. Ask PJ.
In the days leading up to the move I must have chucked out 300-400 kg of paper, old journals, a drum of old grease , crappy old furniture, broken heater, old hard drive, worn out shoes, etc. Felt so good to be rid of all that. Still need to thin out some daggy old clothes - you know, the stuff you wouldn't be seen dead in these days.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Pyongyang
Just watched the POC thing. I'm not going to bother commenting outside as I'll probably get jumped by both teams.
Reasons for Citing:
Kick to the head of a player on the ground,
Injury to the player,
He knew he'd done something wrong by showing remorse,
He's a big name player so could be made an example of.
Reasons for Not Citing:
His eyes were on the ball underneath the players head,
If you watch the angle of his boot it wasn't a toe-punt and it did appear he was aiming underneath the player who moved as the ball was kicked,
He knew he'd done something wrong by showing remorse,
He's a big name player and close to the Lion's squad.
I personally feel that POC did get off lucky as other players have been cited for things which aren't as bad as this. It was a kick to the head HOWEVER I feel it was simply down to the citing commissioner making the decision and that he did bottle it and it should have been a minimum of 5 weeks.

Prop, I think some people find it difficult to be objective over these things. I reckon we would be seeing people take a totally different view if a Munster player suffered the same thing that happened to D. Kearney but the perpetrator was Hines, Bradley Davies or Hartley.
It's the double standards with these things that annoy me.

Evening Everyone Hope all's good in the hood. safe journey home Kiwi!
Was very sad to see the events unfold last night in Boston. A woman in my workplace was going to go on holiday there this week on her leave break, but then realised the marathon was on and thought better of it. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a local responsible. Yesterday was Patriots Day over there and they were debating the changes to the gun laws. It's just such a shame the majority of people most affected by such events probably don't really care for the motives behind such events and were just minding their own business.
Anyway, indeed such a massive event like that puts our own little gripes and grumbles into perspective. On the POC thing, I'll put my little bit in here. I didn't see the event live, but they showed it a couple of times on Scrum V last Sunday - in slow mo too. I think it was just one of those nasty accidents that can easily happen in sport. Not sure how you can cite someone for that. I'd say that regardless of who was involved. I'm just glad that Baby Chilli's OK. I think it's just unfortunate that such event occurred at all and especially during such a match. It'll intensify the rivalry for some for sure.
In more pleasant news. I see the Six Nations fixtures for 2014 are out:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/rugby-union/22169516
Can I also say good luck to Cardiff City in the roundball. They only need to draw at least this evening to be promoted to the premiership...they usually bottle it, so I hope they get through. It'll be good for Wales if they do it.

I'm not a fan of the Friday nighters because I like to watch the 6N with rugby people. That means travelling to Ealing or Marylebone, which is not a problem. But it means I end up landing back in my local high st. as it starts to get 'lively'.
How's stuff at work Cari? I reckin you've been there about a year now.

In 09 I went to that fixture. I finished work early, rushed up to the Diff, watched the game, cued for a shuttle bus to the car park and went home without buying a single pint or even food, getting home around midnight. Pants.
