The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Not sure what impact it has on our coverage (probably little as it usually ITV).
Could someone post an article - I am off to bed!

Stag - I know your joshing, but there were a couple of preventable tries in that game that had us shaking our heads. Conway could be a real star, plus the 6, whose name I missed as I didn't see the starting line ups. Joe Marler nicked his haircut btw:D

You know, I would normally like to see that oligarch taken down a peg or two. But, in this case - he's right. It deprives access to those around the World, who could watch and get a feeling for the Beautiful Game. And help it grow. Albeit in little steps.
I know, he does not really care about sport as an entity and as a joy-filler, for so many have-nots around the Globe.Just profit and control of an ever decreasing free media. But, this is so wrong by the IRB, IMO.
Politics - getting in the way of people sharing the joy and just having a collective good time? Who'd have thunk it.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
No. The level of coverage in the SUPER14 and TriNations is excessive and intrusive. All I want is pictures and commentary.
They have cameras in the dressing room, interviews with players as they are coming off the pitch- the media dictates the terms to the teams. It's more important to get that than to let the players do their job! You walk off 5 points down at half time, and you're giving pitchside interviews on the way to the dressing room? Come on! Let's draw a line in the sand.
It's the opposite of the way it should be. And now, they are strangling coverage of the game in Australia if they don't get their way- they know rugby union can't lose any ground to NRL and Aussie Rules in that market and they have the IRB by the balls.
Barstewards. Shame is, somewhere along the line- they won.

What's scary is they can take on the IRB in a power struggle over something so minor, and be so confident of winning.

Yeah what is all these pitch side interviews all about?
If i was losing at half time the last thing i would want is a microphone shoved in my face. Its bad enough at full time but wasting time at the half time break when you can plan to change things is almost criminal.

I hope if they get pitch-side interviews at half time in the RWC one of the NH players tells them in no uncertain terms to Flip off
Seriously, where's the respect? These guys deserve to be allowed to do their job and not have to deal with the media until after the game is over. And as for the cameras in the dressing room... well, that's just Flip wrong.

Think this then .. And the IRB dont? They want the same self-control over finance. It is politics. And I dont really care, as long as I can see the games. Murdoch is a media animal. I cant stand him and what he stands for... but what about access and snippets for the little Sun readers around the World? Huh? They need to be educated too... Through whatever access-thread possible. At whatever level it comes from. The game needs to grow. It is dying in the SH. So it needs to spread its tentacles Worldwide.
I think ye 2 are taking a typical rugby-snob stance. Understandable... but not acceptable.

Maybe I retract those previous comments a little bit after re-reading the article
How the flip did I miss that?
News Limited is angry over accreditation terms that restrict newspaper websites to running just 90 seconds of World Cup highlight videos, a requirement that they be taken down after 48 hours and a demand for geographical blocking software that prevents overseas-based readers from accessing them.

Aye Notch 100% behind you. Instant gratification is devalued gratification.
My last post for tonight anyway, and its a quasi-political one, so apologies if it offends (especially Prop, but I'm posting it anyway)
Blydi teachers! Men amongst boys and boys amongst men. What possible logic can there be for making an exception for them? One came on Newsnight and said pupils would be better off if they took industrial action! forfeicssakesmunyoublydibolshi...etc.
And it is relevant to rugby, because what will be the first thing cancelled if there's a strike? What will they be unable to find supply teachers for? PE and team sports. I know this, we suffered in the late 80's teacher's strike.

Yes but you haven't filled in your first tax return yet Notch and are full of youthful indignation and rebellious spirit. Us oldies know that if everybody took such an unreasonable stance the country would grind to a halt as it did in the 70's. Everybody has to share the pain. Teachers do not have the right to a fat index linked pension which sees them all off comfortably at 55. There's nothing stopping them buying private pensions as us who are not civil servants or employed in big companies have to.

That- is probably true. I think it's criminal the way we treat our frontline staff. Teachers, nurses etc. would be the glue of our society.
Honestly so much respect for these people who simply do not get the support they need.

Not talkin about the harrassment of players. Not talking about access to players bums for the girlies - although that works too. Numbehs. Not on a WUM. Don't try do a Stag and polarise it man. Publicity,is vital for its future... and he has tentacles everywhere... I dont like it.. but it is. They need him more than he needs them right now. Rugby is a minor game. Really. We lose our lives in it, lose perspective sometimes. But it is a minor World game. Netball is 10 times bigger. I dont like to cow-tow to basterds like him. I hope the IRB reach a halfway agreement and sort it out - they will. He needs RU as well as RL,Aussie Rules but mainly, the true World game - Soccer.Use him and his medya power to help grow the game. Then drop him. Ever seen Citizen Kane? That's our man.
I hope you start to get my drift here. Its a far bigger global picture.
Actually, its worth an article. Let's discuss the future of the game there.

Don't worry Hobo, that's the normal reaction over this side of the world. I play mixed netball. It's a good way to meet girls . And it's a sport I'm actually good at ...
Mixed netball's quite common downunder (in NZ it started when mixed touch-rugby teams started playing indoor netball as a way of keeping social teams together over the winter). Admittedly over here men who play tend to be either Antipodean or married/living with a girl who plays. I played a tournament a couple of years ago at Butlins Brean Sands (on the Severn), they had a 12 team mixed tournament alongside a 100 team ladies one. So at the after-party there were around 600 women and about 15 straight men
Downunder rugby news: James O'Connor has signed for the Rebels and the Queensland Reds have picked up ex-Crusader, ex-All Black and Zara Phillips' ex-squeeze Caleb Ralph as
injury cover

Maybe a snob stance, but not a rugby one. I don't think rugby should be treated any different to other sports from my perspective.
Murdochs empire needs to understand they're not the only media outlet and others will be used if they're not prepared to play by iRB rules.
Now there' every chance that what the iRB are asking for is unacceptable, in which case they're just as guilty as anyone else for throwing their weight around. But I'm sick of the media dictating to sports on how things should be done. It's the iRBs tournament, not Murdochs.

Awoken today to see that McKie has fallen on his sword as Exec at the SRU. Fantastic news. Although even myself being stupidly optmimistic will know that Scottish Rugby's fortunes will not improve over night. The 5-6 years of Damage will take probably as long to be undone.

It's a grey day here in Cardiff, but half past week
Hughie - I don't know how you'll cope once your pal goes to the game. I'm sure he'll be posting pictures of more than the ticket, just to make you more jealous. Annoying isn't it?

Bore da/Good Morning all.
Day off for me today but I've still had to get up early. Sky engineer will be calling between 8am and 1pm today to put the phoneline in, so it's lucky it's so miserable out, I don't mind being stuck in the flat
Having a super chilled out morning, might whack on a bit of classic fm to do some writing to...

Dreamer do you listen to music while writing? I know lots of people who study/write etc with music. Can't do it myself.

I can't write in silence. I usually had some Miles Davis playing when I was writing essays.

Prop - yeah always, am like Lucky, I can't work in silence, well not usually anyway.
Music always gets me writing, sometimes I just have to hear a word in a song and it sets me off.
