The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Like most fights, what started it was probably a number of niggly incidents in the build up, although it's possible someone went all Mike Tyson in the front row.
I see Hugh Heffner's wedding is off. Poor man. I don't know how he'll console himself.

what, even classical music Stag? I only listen to really mellow music when I'm writing otherwise it would distract me. I don't have it on loud either, tis just nice to have it there.

I like some classical music but a lot of it sounds samey and boring. I like Dvorak's ninth symphony and Beethoven's sixth. Tchaikovsky's 'Pathetique' is good, too.

See thats what I thought too. I don't get music really. Or maybe music doesn't get me.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Nah I love all of it, couldn't tell you what my favourite piece of classical music is though, am rubbish at remembering composers (I have the same problem with remembering band names/artists too).
I just, I dunno....I just love it where you here just this one part of a piece of music that's just to beautiful it really just makes you stop and listen. It just properly relaxes me, sort of opens my mind I guess so I can write what's in my head down on paper properly.
Stag - music isn't suited to everyone, we all have different things we enjoy or understand, that's what makes us all special

For me, writing music is either Gary Kennon, Antony and the Johnsons or a string tribute band I found that does muse/foo's/rise against etc!!

Morning again all, just checking in quickly before my 10am meeting.
NZ Herald video interview, post Monday's quakes
On a slightly more postive note, Canterbury have been given the OK to use Rugby Park in Christchurch as a venue in the INL Cup this season (it's normally a club venue, but has one stand, and is the Crusaders' training ground)

I can't imagine my life without music, but each to their own. Some people are really into films and games which I'm not.

Good point, Cari. I've loved some films but there are so many I haven't seen and I'm not too bothered about it. I can think of better ways to spend my time than watching a film.

There are loads of popular films I've never seen - The Godfather films, The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter films. I've got lots of DVD films at home. I'll put one on in the background and do something else at the same time usually. I used to go to the cinema a lot when I was a child, but I haven't been to the cinema for years. The last film I saw in the cinema was (I think) in 2002.

Thats so weird from my point of view Cari. I think storytelling is great. I love drama, books, films, myth - stuff like that.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
The last time I went to the cinema was in 2008. I haven't seen any trailers that have made me want to go since - and if a film looks half-good, I'm happy to wait until they show it on TV.

See Notch doesn't work for me. The missus had this out with me recently. She loves music - well certain kinds anyway. But I just don't get it. It will rarely really get me thinking or send shivers down my back or anything.

I'm sort of with Cari on the films, although I do go to the cinema a bit, I prefer watching films there then I do on the tv at home. I just don't seem to have the patience to sit down and watch one now, at least not often.
My big big love though is books, always has been, just wish I had more time to read nowadays

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Staggy - that was my point - you enjoy films in the way that I enjoy music. Notch is absolutely right about songs telling stories too. I guess I just get more emotionally moved by music than films - music sets off my imagination more. Also, I don't appreciate fantasy type films e.g. The Lord of the Rings, so I'd find it quite uninteresting to sit through somethign like that, but I can understand how others get into them.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I'd only previously heard Bob Dylan's version of that song, Notch.
That's the original meaning of ballad - a song telling a story. I like true ballads. 'Long Black Veil' as done by the Band is a great example, and Fairport Convention had some crackers too.

Dreamer I was thinking down the line it might be cool to do some kind of 606 Pub short story writing thing. I know you, me, Luckless, Munsty and few more all like to jot and pen things. Could be interesting down the line.

Dreamer - I'd go with books as well (for setting off my imagination) - but as you say it's more time consuming than music, so I get into the music more. Like I listen to music as I'm walking to work, doing stuff around the house...can't do that with a book - unless I do what my sister does and download some talking books...

As in do it today? Actually I've a busy day today. I'm gonna be on the go until 22.30 tonight. I have my German interview thing tonight and then I am giving lessons for 2 hours today.

seize "the" day, not today necessarily, just before the WC warm up games I'd suggest.

I'm going to (or hoping to anyway!) Fairport Conventions festival this August Lucky, I went last year as well, they're still amazing
Stag - definitely could be interesting and might actually get me to sit down and write constructively again. All it would need is for me to get over my dislike of other's reading my work Good idea though

Good idea that, Stag. We could have a set title or theme and each write a piece. It would be interesting to see how differently we'd interpret the starting point.

I love audio books, they're great to put on if you're doing some cooking, cleaning etc. Sometimes listen to one as I'm going to sleep to, really relaxes me

It definitely would. I think it would be very good. Maybe use Facebook as the medium to do it.
Notch - yea I know that. Just even songs that have quite good stories I find it hard to get enthused by.
