First topic message reminder :

Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.

The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the team photos of the World Cup finalists. Or the action shots (put up especially for Cari) of McCaw, Kahui and Corey Jane.

So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

See patients!!!

Tell blooming lies ALL the time!

That certainly explains why she told you to keep icing it!

The benefit of ice has pretty much gone within 48 hours!

Why didn't you tell them the truth you eejit!

They can help better if they have all the info!

And thanks Cari. I'm getting better now I hope.

MrsP - it's been fine. These days, work's just me sifting through reams of documentation to know where to send it before our office closes for good. No start date yet. The panel said they'd like me to start in two weeks, but bureaucracy won't allow it by the looks Rolling Eyes

I didn't tell them because I know the reaction sports injuries receive especially seeing as I kept playing on it. Plus I wanted to be seen quickly! Just wish there was something I could do to help speed the recovery but it literally is sitting on my backside for a few weeks!!

Oooo actually you may be able to help....can I swim on it/will swimming help?

Plus....i'm a bloke!!

Yep...but that's the way they do things. It's awfully frustrating. Still, I'm making myself useful by sorting out my soon-to-be-old office in the meantime.

Prop, not scaremongering but my brawd broke his ankle playing. They didn't pick up on it in the hospital that day and he played after about a month, but kept getting crocked. When they finally spotted the fracture it had weakened his ankle to the extent he had to pack it in. He was a hooker as well. Get it properly checked out, even if it means swallowing your pride.

Prop,

Very hard to be sure from here but I would suspect you need physio.

When you damage your ankle ligaments (sprain) you can very often lose the proprioception in that joint. That is the ability to sense which way your ankle is moving in relation to your leg and foot. It is the sense that you need when walking over uneven ground in the dark. It is also the sense which helps you not to reinjure your ankle because it has been stressed in an unhealthy way.

You need to let it heal properly and then possibly relearn that sensation. A physio will give you exercises to help this process. That is why you should have told them about the long term nature of your injury.

Yeah Gibbo....couldn't you tell by my complexion??!!

Glas: I may go that, simply see if it does recover with rest.

MrsP: My divisional officer knows a sports physio who he's going to give my info to tonight at st johns so hopefully they'll be able to help, reckon I may need to change my running style and also change my hooking foot seeing as it's my left foot that's gone and I hook with my right so in a scrum all the pressure is on the left.

Prop,

Which version of your "info" will the physio get?

Whistle

Seriously though, never a good idea to lie to the medics. Some we can spot very easily.

"I haven't smoked since I saw you last doc, honest!"

So, that's yellow paint on the first 2 fingers of your right hand then, not nicotine staining?

How much do you drink/smoke?

Where did thiswagging finger one come from??!! At least i'm not your age then because that would be my evening ruined!!

MrsP: they will get the full story. The main reason I said it happenned earlier was because i didn't want to be sat round, went in once with a head injury (bleeding quite badly) and had to wait for 4 hours!!

Ah I can appreciate that alright Prop but it is impossible to try to get the management of injuries right if folk don't give us the full story.

Why tie one of our hands behind our back?

It's a bit like asking someone to help you find your blue jumper when the jumper is actually red!

Anyway, I hope you get it sorted although it is likely to take a good while.

Yeah I do understand mrsP it's my own blydi fault for feeling too proud to admit I needed time off rugby because we didn't have a replacement hooker...as soon as one turns up it badly goes wrong but at least i've now told the coach i'm out....time for beers on the sideline Smile

I'd quite happily have 35 minutes on the step, might get some peace that way!!!

To be fair, when it is peaceful and quiet in my house, I get bored out of my brains.

Can't wait for the weekend, London irish vs. Bath at the MadStad, big game for us, need to win as we go to Welford Road the week after and we always get stuffed up there!!!

Prop, speaking as someone who spent 5 or 6 years either in physio or hobbling around a sports field (I sprained the left ankle around 10 times, the right 3 or 4), the physio is very worth it. Especially as they'll teach all those nice balancing and stretching exercises to re-train and strengthen the ligaments once you start rehabbing it. Once you can stand on one foot (the sore one Wink ) blindfolded for 2 minutes it's probably fixed.

Also (and sorry to tell you this one) any day you get cider cider cider cider ed adds a day to the recovery process - the body's too busy dealing with the alcohol to do any healing.

One of my physio's worked part time for the Crusaders. And since she was also the NZ women's heavyweight boxing champion you generally did all the things she suggested Wink
