First topic message reminder :

Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.

This is the first Pub of 606v2's second year, here's hoping for another good one.

The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Augustin Pichot, David Campese, Mal O'Kelly and Jim Williams above the bar!

ha I know! I keep having to rely on the Beeb updates, it's horrible waiting for new ones to appear, but at least he held his serve now! Some of the rallies sound like they've been amazing.

Is this match not very exciting then. The Beeb's getting very descriptive:

"Murray has changed his shirt from orange to ice white, which might be just about the dullest thing I've ever written... Murray knifes a backhand into the middle of the net before Djokovic balloons a forehand wide at the end of a marathon exchange. The Serb falls to his knees, cross swinging from his neck, like a monk praying for divine intervention. Djokovic really struggling to suck it up, as if the air around him is made of leak and potato soup, but that's a hold."

Scarlets team v LI:

15 Dan Newton, 14 Viliami Iongi North, 13 Gareth Maule (capt), 12 Adam Warren, 11 Andy Fenby, 10 Aled Thomas, 9 Rhodri Williams, 1 Iestyn Thomas, 2 Emyr Phillips , 3 Peter Edwards, 4 Adam Powell, 5 Dominic Day, 6 Mat Gilbert, 7 Johnathan Edwards, 8 Kieran Murphy.

Replacements: 16 Kirby Myhill, 17 Phil John, 18 Deacon Manu, 19 Craig Price, 20 Dan Thomas, 21 Liam Davies, 22 Daniel Evans, 23 Nick Reynolds.

spot the new player laughing

Not quite the team I thought it was going to be, surprised we're starting with Iestyn! Not sure who Adam Powell, Craig Price and Dan Thomas are, and I didn't think Murphy was fit!

Not sure if I'm happy with it, but tis the best we can put out I reckon.

There's rumours going round about Rhys Thomas being out for the rest of the season. One thread on the SF board says he collapsed in training and has had a quadruple bypass! Have you seen this Dreamer?

Just had a look at that thread Mrs Penfro. It doesn't sound nice at all. Really hope that it's not true, or if there is some truth in it, it's not as serious as has been said. Horrible if it's true Sad

That would be pretty awful. Something like that would probably be career ending. Hopefuly, at the very least, an exaggeration.

Reminds me a bit of Simon Best.

Amazing scenes. Murray down and out in the deciding set (5-2) at one point somehow contrives to level it.

levels it at 5-5 then throws away a 15-40 lead to go 6-5 down.

Bet he doesn't hold his serve now.

Yep. Poor Murray. He's just shy of the standard of the top three, he gives it everything though.

Notch, do you think it's a mental thing at this stage?

Like I don't watch too much tennis but is he good enough to win a GS or will he ever be? is he still improving?

My Serbian mate has just gone banana's.

Said his youngfella is doing a school project on Serbia and was putting pictures of famous Serbs into it, Djokovic and Nikola Tesla are on there now. He said if Djokovic lost he was being replaced with general Tito on the final draft! Laugh

He has all the physical tools Mick, it's completely mental with him. He just doesn't have it in the top two inches to beat one of the big three in a grand slam final.

I don't know, I'm not a big tennis buff. There are a number of other posters here who could give you much more insight than my inexpert opinion. I think the 'choker' tag is unfair though. Often when you see him in a big match like this he just doesn't impose himself, plays some great tennis and comes just short.

I think part of Murray's problem is a bit of mental weakness, he just seems to drop his concentration at key times. Another thing though, when you watch him play Nadal/Federer/Djoko in a SF or Final, you can visably see the other three making that extra step up, and Andy sometimes just doesn't seem capable of matching them.

To label him a choker is unfair. He is simply not as good or mentally tough as Federer, Nadal or Djokovic. There is no shame in that, they are three of the greatest players of all time.
