First topic message reminder :

Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.

The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Jonathan Davies (JD2), and all of the weekend's 6 Nations debutants above the bar!

No they didn't they told Sexton to lash it down the throats of the back three, he certainly didn't attempt many kicks to the corner.

Ah stag. not as black and white as that. 1. you done it straight after the game where you said "it was unforgiveable that Sexton missed those kicks". From the outside that came across as a WUM.. and 2. It was suggesting we only lost the game based on those missed kicks when this simply wasn't the case.

I wish we kept Sexton on to the very end initially because I thought it would do the fella a world of good confidence wise.

Secondly Sextons restarts where excellent all game and we really would have been in with a shout of nicking that restart if it was Sexton restarting the way he had all game.

I (as well as Mick) was not impressed to see the camera pan straight to ROG when Sexton missed a kick.. Very stupid and should have been put to bed before now.

In relation to your other post earlier about the alternative backrow it is a bit reactionary as Glas mentions but having Bowe at Center isn't that crazy an idea. he has played there before (for the Lions in the 3rd test if I am not mistaken)

Afternoon.

In case you missed it, the French line up for Saturday.Poux for Debaty,Szars for La Buche, Maestri for Nallet and Hari for Bonnaire.Would have thought of giving Parra/Beauxis a start, but I suppose FTD's tactical kicking may prove correct for the heavier Irish back3.Impressive bench.

Médard ; Clerc, Rougerie, Fofana, Malzieu ; Trinh-Duc, Yachvili ; Harinordoquy, Picamoles, Dusautoir ; Maestri, Papé ; Mas, Szarzewski, Poux.

Reps: Debaty, Servat, Nallet, Bonnaire, Parra, Beauxis, Mermoz.

Brad Thorn on his way to Leinster.

sure does Rava. and (apart from this Saturday) it would be nice to begin to start understanding what to expect from a French team.

at the moment they are a bit of an Enigma and therefore it can be very difficult to set up a game plan for them.

Chef, thanks for the update. it does seem to be a good option for both Thorn and Leinster. I know Japan operate on a playoff type setup also so if his team weren't involved or looking likely to be involved in the business end of the season then even at 37 it would be a great piece of short term business by Leinster.

Cari,

The season starts right at the beginning of September but sure you wouldn't know if we had a home or away game.

I can't remember when they announce the fixture list.

If he does sign for us how annoying would it be to arrange to travel over only to discover we were playing away to the Blues that weekend?

Laugh Oh don't MrsP! I'd be fuming!! Think I'll have to wait until around August to plan anything. I know when I planned my Dublin trip for last year, I was able to book the weekend in the August, but the exact day/time of the match wasn't announced until a month before.

So it seems the latest on Planet Ulster Rugby is coming into focus. Seems the following is all confirmed;

-Brian McLaughlin has decided to step down as head coach at the end of his contract and will continue in a new role with the Ulster Academy.
-The timing of McLaughlin leaving was a leak, leading to some frenzied media speculation, but UR and McLaughlin remain on good terms. He's still working there, after all.
-Tommy Bowe has agreed in principle to join Ulster and confirmation will be made by the end of the month.
