The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Gibbo's Ma and Brad Thorn above the bar!

Billy - technically Bowe is required to release and Morrison is also required to release - its a messy situation.
Over the line is different though. If a tackler had to release over the goal line it would be impossible to ever have held up anyone.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Cheers staggie, i am completely clueless in those situations. I was thinking held up and 5mtr scrum for Ireland at the time and was amazed thatScotland got the penalty.
Didnt hear the call but i could only assume that it was for intentional double movement.

Keith Earls didn't dive. If he tripped himself or if Evans did it is another matter.
On the Tommy Bowe thing, I don't think they could have called that more wrong.

I am actually fuming about that staggie, really fuming. Was not needed and is an element that is creeping into the game. I hope one of the old pros like big Mick Galway give him a bang on the ear about it.

I thought he did Munsty it looked that way to me.
Eire my boss at work is friendly with his dad, Ger. He was saying that he sat him down due to him swan diving when scoring tries in the RWC.
Munsty how are you pal? Agree with you regarding Bowe decision.

If Bowe was ingoal, surely it would have been fine?
He was the tackled player not releasing, whereas the Scottish defender was not releasing the tackled player... am I wrong? I might be wrong.
Anyway, was a good game to go to. Enjoyed it. Just back at my sisters house in Rathgar now before heading off to get something to eat

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Evening pub,
I thought it was a try by Bowe not too disimilar to Strettle's effort apart from the obvious grounding.
I also think you're being a bit harsh on Earls, I thought there was a clipping of legs to be fair to him; I may be wrong, but I don't think it had anything to do with the little tug-back.
Great first half, second half was a bit muted but I wonder how much of that was to do with last week?
I was at work for the Wales game, but it doesn't sound as though I missed much, I have it on Sky+ but probably wont bother with it.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I think you are being very unfair on Earls too.
Evans pulled his arm back while he was running full pelt. It really doesn't take much to knock you off balance when running full tilt.
Good match. really enjoyed it.
On the Bowe thing, did anyone else get the impression the TMO really wanted to award the try but couldn't when he asked the ref to clarify which grounding?
Still not sure how it was a Scottish Penalty though but hayho!
I bet the lads are having a grand time in Dublin!

Scoring the first try, Stag had a bet at something like bobiculous-to-one, he's won £140 - and that's a lot of monies!
Enjoy your earnings Stag, but don't drink it all at once.

PJ.
Interviewed Shane Williams in Cardiff for the v2 Journal and Adam managed to get me a press pass. (1st draft report up in writers section)
As I took my seat in the press box I noticed my brother sitting two yards away just accross the aisle with his Mrs and daughter. What are the chances of that in an 80,000 seater stadium? Only 62000 in today though, less than for interprovincial matches with you lot

It won't take long to spend €140 in Dublin.
That was a loooong day. Well done to the winners today, and commiserations to As. Hoping they are all having a good time
Ealing won 37-63 at the 'Blood and Sand' (Cambridge) It was a happy Wheatsheaf earlier on, and nice to see for a few beers during the Ireland v Scotland game.

Damn! Ickle Shane?! What are the chances of meeting the man to have a chat?
What a privelage, I trust he managed to keep his excitement in check?
Sounds like you had an absolutely class day out there Glas, go on then, what was he like? I kind of have the impression that even when he's standing still he gives off an aura of speed and impending energy, I often wondered what his career would have been like had he have been born 30 years earlier.
Dish it out man, tell all.
PS, the bit about your bruv? Standard really, the rule of six degrees demands that sort of normality, but imagine what he thought seeing you in a press box.
"Phillips has been a naughty boy again", probably.

Only been to Cambridge once PJ - for a beer festival. Been to Bath a few times and love the variety of pubs there. Too many good 'uns to mention.
A nice wee cricket ground too - watched Somerset play there a couple of times back in the 90s.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I used to work in Cambridge in my previous career, I bought a house in a village called Orwell about 10 minutes outside the city centre and "Big Brother" was in full effect - there were about 2000 souls all-told and only 3 surnames to call their own.
A mouse couldn't fart without someone telling you what he'd had for breafast.
As for Bath beer houses? They're all down the "avenues and alley ways" , has to be one of the best cities in the world for rugby alehouses as they don't have any other sport to relate to, and it's aesthetically bewitching to boot.
Pity the brand of rugby they're producing at the moment is raw sewerage...

Cuthbert wasn't held in the first tackle dogtooth. Perfectly entitled to have another go.

Congrats to all the Welsh & Irish regs on their wins...
I'm watching the replay of the Ireland-Scotland game again. Enjoyed the 1st half... some good tries.
Feeling a bit crook...hayfever or something. Struggling to stay awake but might get up for the England-France match.

Saints v Scarlets on. Lots of kicking early on.
Saints lead 7-0 off a line out drive after early Scarlets pressure. One chance was completely botched.

Saints using the typical tactic of the maul and as usual a welsh club just simply cannot defend against it. Think we know Saints' game plan for the rest of the game.

Trouble is Scarlets keep coughing up the ball when they do have it. Loads of errors so far.
13-3 now but Jones has a routine pen given for blocking.
Pots it...13-6.

Well done England.
Have to admit I fell asleep in the first half although that was more a reflection on my tiredness than anything else....I think.
Good finish though.
Poor Dowson. As if being knocked cold preventing a try isn't bad enough he gets his face stood on by Croft to boot! (Pun fully intended!)
