The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Gibbo's Ma and Brad Thorn above the bar!

I guess that is the dream of many of South African father. But for now as long as he develops a love for the game and play to enjoy it will be a good start.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Biltong, there is a way of putting up your own photos in the pub. It's pretty fiddley but it works.
Go to google and drag and drop your photo from your pc onto the search bar. that then stores your photo on a google server but it also gives you a URL address like any website. Then you can either post the link in here or embed the photo using the link button just above the writing box on 606. Just make sure to make it a spoiler or else you'll be in breech of site rules.
To do that, once you've put the link in the image box and clicked "ok", just highlight all the txt, go to "other" options and click spoiler.

Morning, Cari. Feeling any better today? Getting ready to go into Motherwell this morning with my sister - we have a flat to renovate for a new tenant (yes, folks, it's true - Puma grinds faces of the poor).

Haha, Rodders, he plays hooker, front row man just like his father, he was very happy to hear when I told him I was a loose head prop, he reckons now when he plays a game his dad is right next to him.

Anyone else paying attention to American politics of late? I find the whole thing fascinating. A year ago hell even 2 years ago I would have said Obama's dead and buried. The republican antics this year have changed my mind completely though.

Willy, I'm actually quite annoyed by how much coverage the Republican race is getting. It isn't even a public election, just one party choosing its candidate. There's a presidential election campaign going on in France at the moment and it gets next to no coverage.

Beautiful story BB.
Yeah, Willy... it's funny how opposition parties have a knack of self-imploding or squandering their chances when there is a dip in popularity with the incumbent Party/President/PM.
However, I really like Obama. Very difficult times at present. I hope he's there for another term.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
A point on how I see politics. The ruling party writes the history of a nation whilst they are in power, when they fall from grace the new political party writes a new history and that is the history taught to children at school.
Most politicians go into their chosen careers as a wide eyed idealistic person thinking they can change the world. Sadly within a few years the realisation that politicians have to forsake their idealistic views as a whole just to compromise on issues they would normally oppose, just to get one or two of their idealistic views in place bring disillusionment.
Pretty soon all their ideals are forgotten as they fight the impossible fight. Add to that those who go into politics for their own gain and need for power.
In a civilised society, the daily lives of your average Joe is rarely impacted. He can continue with his Take Away Shop, his Video Store or his Engineering business as things rarely change apart from economic cycles.
Hence unles there is civil war in a country, politics mean very little to me.

27 degrees. Same as here during the day. It's getting noticeably darker earlier though...
That means one thing - rugby season is here. Posts are going up everywhere and the school kids have been doing drills for the last couple of weeks. They all look semi-professional these days!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
To be honest, looking elsewhere I think we should be grateful for the politicians we have.
One the the leading contenders in the French election is a socialist who wants to impose a 75% tax on millionaires. Now whilst that's obviously a good party line to run, it rather overlooks the fact that millionaires presumably have the resources to move away.
Santorum is as republican as they come. Viciously again gay marriage and birth control amongst other things. He's got where he is by scaremongering and he strikes me as a bit of a megalomaniac. Romney is the only republican who can properly challenge Obama.

If Mitt Romney is the Republicans' candidate, they'll lose thousands and thousands of far-right voters simply because he's a Mormon. It's a crap reason not to vote for someone, but there you go.
The saddest thing of all is that all the candidates are multi-millionaires. You could be the ideal would-be president but if you don't have money behind you, you'll get nowhere.

That's why I definetly think this election is Obama's to lose. I'd also put my cards on the table and say Cameron is also willing him on as well. He has to deal with enough far right whack jobs in his own party without having to deal with another international leader with more extreme views.
Whilst I share your idealism. Money talks when it comes to elections. That won't change.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
We've gotta have faith in 'middle America' again. Fortunately, as you say, we're always hearing the extreme acts of desperation and most good folk are aware of that. It amazes me how this cycle of politics carries on every 4 years with new candidates behaving in similar ways. They'll never have the numbers to go very far.
It's similar to what happens in Oz but - but we don't buy sensationalism in politics and only have these types of politicians on a tiny scale (2 or 3 all up) compared to the US.
This week some Queensland LNP (Liberal National) nutter paid for a shocking add accusing a more centre 'liberal' of "supporting gay marriage or civil union between same sexes". Tacky, offensive and cheap ad designed to shock and spoil but it was immediately jumped on by everyone... including this bloke's brother (who is gay) and who then savaged the ad the most of all! Unbelievable, isn't it? You'd think the nutter might have an inkling that might happen.
Inadvertently, this has played into the hands of the opposition as well as the person he attacked - so all that was achieved was that this man alienated himself even further from the "urbanites" and has done his own party considerable damage. (He's now being compared to Pauline Hanson... or even worse!)

Bore da/Morning all.
Hope everyone's as well as can be, and Cari, hope you get better very soon (and definitely for the weekend!)
I'm still all in a bit of a muddle today. My ability to ignore things that are bothering me never ceases to amaze me (but then I have had years of practice). If you'd asked me even on Sunday, I'd have said I'd be pretty content to stay in Cardiff. Fast forward 2 days and it's a bit of a 'hell no!' situation. Guess there was no point me thinking about it earlier though as I was/am tied in to my flat until the end of May, still, wish I'd given myself a bit more time to to sort my self out
Still, rugby starts again tomorrow. Really hope the Dragons can do the Scarlets a big favour!

I hope we can do you a favour too, Dreamer! A win wouldn't make everything alright, but it would be a real boost for us in what's been a disappointing season. Jason Tovey will want to have a good game to prove a point.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
If your son can learn anything from Rory Best its work rate. Hardest working player on the field! And a good hooker needs to be... scrummaging, expected to hit a lot of rucks, expected to be available to carry the ball wider out and apart from all that expected to hit his jumper in every lineout. So not much then!
If you watch guys like Best, Du Plessis, Mario Ledesma etc. the amount of hard work they do in a game of rugby is absolutely astonishing. Might be one of the most demanding positions to excel at.

That’s in then Biltong, google changed their rules. Basically if you can put your photo anywhere online you can put it in here, and you can do it the way I showed you. It’s just putting your photo somewhere online is the stickler.
