The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Belfast
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat. The pub has ventured to Belfast, as Red Stag is still struggling to come to terms with Munsters QF loss to Ulster
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Brian McLaughlin, John Hart, Duncan Bell, Michael Lynagh, Mick O'Driscoll, Deiniol Jones and Shane Williams.
Get well "Noddy" Lynagh - our thoughts are with you.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Belfast
Glas; I would have agreed but nowadays quite a lot of the front row training looks at getting'the hit' and this is now used to gain the advantage for certain moves off the scrum. I really don't think you'll be able to get rid of 'the hit' in rugby now.

Take the hit out. That's why they designed CTPE, was to get a better engagement!

I'd agree with getting rid of it but the thing is that so much is built on it now I can't see it happening. It's the same in the tackles...everyone wanting the 'big hit.'

Say you meet someone and you go to shake hands. You wait 'til you have each other's hand before you start shaking. Otherwise you'd keep missing.
Shaking hands is just like scrummaging. Take it from someone who's never played in the front row.

Ulster 8-16 Leinster FT. Good physical workout for both.
Paddy Wallace and Wanneberg taken off as precautions. Hope they are ok for next week.

So, O's home and dry for 2nd place. Scarlets could join em, if Glasgow and/or Munster slip up. Scarlets v Munster is now HUGE.

Leinster interprovincial grand slam. They have beaten both their potential final opponents in the last two weeks. Only Chefs boys can stop them now.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Belfast
Pretty good performance by Ulster tonight just a shame that 4 or 5 times we conceded penalties or turnovers in the Leinster 22 and missed a few kicks at goal. It's about being clinical. In another week we would be kicking ourselves about missing out, but it's an ideal warm up for a Heineken Cup semi.
As disappointing as it is to lose at Ravenhill, in a way I'm not very disappointed that we'll finish outside the Top 4. I didn't really want that playoff spot as much as Scarlets or Glasgow. If we beat Edinburgh next weekend, I would have advocated that Ulster rest key players for the semi-final had we made it. It falls the week before the Heineken Cup final and we simply don't have the depth to compete on two fronts. The romantic in me says go out hell for leather in every game, but we need to be pragmatic.
That said, I thoroughly enjoyed the game tonight. Leinster are easily the best side to visit Ravenhill this season; they are so much better than the usual teams we play in the Pro12 it's just ridiculous. That team could have put 50 points on most sides in the league and it's encouraging that they had to scrap it out in the trenches. Only an act of God means they will end the season without silverware, and the unbiased part of my brain tells me that they will be the first team to do the Pro12 & HC double.
*this is a massive If, it really is. It's all or nothing next week- death or glory

Gibbo is getting more modest. I'd expected him to say 10, not 20. I guess accepting your limitations is all part of growing older
Good win for Leinster tonight in a pretty tough game mo chara. We put them under pressure but their work at the breakdown and in defence is fantastic. We concentrate on the flair they play with but they still have the toughness of that team that beat Harlequins at The Stoop in 2009. The complete package, in other words, even if hearts and minds were clearly on next week.
Hope you enjoyed it

Hi man. Enjoy the game? Inclement weather did not help. But I thought we both put in a decent shift. Its HC or nowt for ye now. I think that may be a good thing. One focus.
Paddy Jackson looked great out there. Cave gave no quarter to BOD (who I thought was annonymous). McFadden, Ryan and Reddan were exellent for us.
Hope Paddy and Wanneberg are ok mo chara.
Believe.

Yeah, me too. I think they will be but it's certainly a nervous wait too see the team sheet! We badly missed both of those guys and Henry as well- I'm sure at least two of them would have finished the game had it been in the Heineken Cup though.
I actually did enjoy the game a lot. Leinster have some great traveling fans- they may have been holding back like us, but they are still so much better than any other team to play here in the Pro 12.
We lost one of the greats from your era this week- Levon Helm of The Band.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Belfast
Evening all.
Well done Leinster!
My biggest regret about tonight was that we didn't get a win for Brian McLaughlin's last game in charge at Ravenhill. Hugely emotional night. I'm not sure if any of this was on the telly but after the team had clapped Leinster in to the changing room Johann Muller stood on the pitch beckonning BM down to the pitch. He tried to get him down several times and eventually marched up the "tunnel" and brought BM down onto the pitch with his arm very very firmly around his shoulders. I think he probably gave him the option of walking or being carried!
The whole crowd started chanting his name as well as cheering for all the players. The poor guy could not even raise his head. after they took him off for an interview but I don't know how he could have given one.
Brilliant send off for him and Pedrie and the others who are leaving at the end of the season.
Very emotional.

My lads will always say that too. All the artistic sides from Mam.
I dunno tho. Just cos I can't sing, dance or play an instrument.
I think I thought them how to blag people to death. Yeah... that's one. Well useful in the real World IMO.

Chris Henry very sore. Paddy Wallace was seeing double. Took a big blow to the jaw. Pedrie has some sort of a groin strain.
Paul Marshall wont play unless he's fully fit and still isn't sure if he will recover.
Jared Payne is raring to go. He reckons if they put the HC Final back a week he might just make it. John Afoa is just a gentleman.
Met BOD and Sexton as well. Great night.
Oh and best of all - I met Rodders and GF

Morning Hoog!
Get this into ya - .... we need an icon for thick toast don't we?
Crusaders slaughtering the Canes... 32 zip after 35 mins. I knew I should have tipped them by more than a measly 10 points. Too late now.
Watched my local team the Gordon Highlanders (or Stags) defeat the mighty galloping greens of Randwick 29-22 this afternoon. Maybe they will have a good year in 2012.
It was an OK game, pitch heavy after all the rain... a few good tries from both sides but also some pi55 weak defensive lapses and a few too many errors. The Randwick captain took it on the chin after the match saying they were slow to react, etc and also mentioned the difficulties of communicating in Spanish with the Noriega bros from Argentina.
