Olympics Day 8
First topic message reminder :
Just trying to get my breath back. THREE GOLDS yesterday, taking our total to 8. We sit 4th in the table, and with any good fortune should take 3rd today on Super Saturday.......will the cyclists, rowers, Mo and Jess make it a golden one?

After beating Brazil and Spain, would you want to face Honduras?

Team GB could lose tonight I'd say, expect Brazil to come back though, Honduras surprisingly beat Spain though and (I'm not watching it) I take it are giving Brazil a run for their money.

At least a silver in the mixed doubles tennis then. Murray will definitely have 2 medals.

Lisikci seems to really enjoy playing, always with a smile on here face. Decent player on grass and quite a looker too I will be rooting against him though, hate the feicing hysteria about him! Will lose FedEx in a 5 setter I'd say but best of luck to him, should be a good game although I question the logic of playing in both when you know that the day before the final is the doubles. I suppose olympic tennis is not important really.

Ireland's 20k walker well in it at the halfway pace. Between GAA and the Olympics there's too much sport. Even Picture in Picture can't save me.

In the men's omnium, Edward Clancy of GB came 11th in the 30KM Points Race which was the second of six events in the omnium. Overall, Clancy is 5th. Not long now till the women's team pursuit final.

No he's the son of some black guy from Hounslow, London. Making him British.
Mo Farah was born in Somalia, but his father is English born and the family came to Britain when Mo was eight years old. He has lived in this country ever since. He has an English born wife who is expecting twins by him, and they will be born in this country.
I'd say Mo Farah is British by pretty much most yardsticks.
Without trying to sound like the BNP, he isnt genetically British... Which is why he is a good distance runner.

Cavendish said something after the road race last week about not being able to enter because he hadn't done any track events this season, but complaining because I believe France entered track guys in the mountain biking and the road race to allow them into the track programme.

Yeah that's it Jack, he is British in the sense he was raised there and everything but his Somalian heritage has a great deal to do with his talent, which in turn was harnessed in Britain with their great funding for athletics. There's a reason countries like India underachieive have the population but not the infrastructure or finance. All their wealth is concentrated on so few of the population.

I know Somalia is in East Africa, but he's not from altitude and the Somalian records are not exactly awe inspiring.

That's aprt of my point DJ, it's a very poor country he had the taltent but the facilities and the coahcing available in the UK to harness it.

Wiggins has changed too much and shed too much weight to win the tour, he can't have the outright track speed he used to have.

I would say some of it is down to that yes, or being of African extraction. Europeans aren't exactly winning the 5k and 10k worlds like. Those in GB have done a great job with him and deserve credit but I think some of it is down to his heritage and I'd say one or two might think the same.

Embracing and assimilating other peoples and cultures is the point of the UK. His african heritage is a factor but he is still British, as is Monty Panesar and Countless other people with heritages from other cultures

Another World Record, another Gold Medal in the cycling for GB. We almost lapped them as well! Well done to the women's team pursuit.
That's 3 Golds and 1 Silver today, Ennis and Farah still to come. Could we have a total of 5 Gold Medals today?

Perhaps, but Kenyans of non-Kalenjin descent do no better than Europeans either. Something like 97% of all Kenyan medals come from 12% of their population. Being born and raised at altitude has a lot to do with it.
He was obviously born with a huge amount of natural talent, but I'm not whether that's a Somalia thing. There are many people of Somalian descent all over the World and not many are successful at distance running.

Bronze isn't as that fella who broke his medal in the shower found out. That crisis was like Ulster's one last season. They got to a HC final at the end. Congrats boys and girls your team are turning it on with style in front of the home crowd. Well done Team GB.

Thing is though, we are the third best country at the minute. Ulster aren't the third best Province, Munster are.

Not for long Dave..... Penney is on the way. Gve us a year or two.
Mo can do it but he is certainly up against it, I believe he can turn it on though.
