Olympics Day 8
First topic message reminder :
Just trying to get my breath back. THREE GOLDS yesterday, taking our total to 8. We sit 4th in the table, and with any good fortune should take 3rd today on Super Saturday.......will the cyclists, rowers, Mo and Jess make it a golden one?

GB take Gold in the rowing men's fours final
GB take Gold in the rowing women's double sculls
GB now have 10 Gold Medals
And Ennis has extended her lead in the Heptathlon
Only downer so far is Jenkins coming 5th in the Triathlon. As for the recent events in the rowing, I really hope they're allowed back in.

Re: Olympics Day 8
Great race in the Womens RSX windsurfing... such a physical sport... comentator just said how one windsurfer race has the same level of physical effort as an olympic 10k cycling race.
Unfortunately Bryony Shaw is not having a good regatta... fifth this race and sixth over all. still a double points medal race decider might see her get a medal.. but spain are leading...
Great race though all the same

Paul Goodison has taken advantage of massively shifting conditions and has gone from 15th to fighting for first and second.

I cant see how there is anything dodgy about this- something broke and thats it, they are allowed another chance, lucky for it to happen within 100m but hey hey thats what we want- better to be lucky than good, better to be lucky and good

Chequered i think its one of them things we have to take at face value- they wouldnt have stopped the boat if everything was fine- there start was ok.

Great, well deserved gold for Denmark . Silver about right, especially as we clearly cheated

Yeah not sure you can say that. It looked dodgy but went to the officials and they made the decision that it was fine and within the 100mtrs.

Only silver but fantastic rowing from both pairs, especially the Danes. Fantastic day so far for GB, 2 Golds and 1 Silver.

I am happy we got the medal but I would put a small bet that Purchase 's seat got stuck and didn't break and I'm not sure that it counts as a breakage. I worry that he did what Redgrave said and actually took the wheel off himself.

What's that, 4 golds, 3 silver and 2 bronze from the rowing? Even well above our own expectations.

Correct. The link below shows the full medal count for the Rowing and it's no surprise to see GB at the top.

Earlier Redgrave looked like he wanted to lamp Inverdale one. Putting Olympic legends in their sports next to "commentators" who only borderline understand them must be annoying for them.

What's been annoying me is that Inverdale has been close to a pool of water for a week now and no-one has given him the World's Strongest Man treatment. Yet.

Re: Olympics Day 8
Bad news for GBR in the laser radial fleet....
Alison Young received a black flag in the first start because she was over the start line.
A black flag is a measure that the Race Officer, (the person in charge of setting the course and starting the race), had had enough of continually trying to start the race with competitors being over the line.
A black flag is flown at the one minute preparatory signal and means that no sailor is allowed o cross the start line between that point and the start of the race.
Alison is one of four sailors to have been Black Flagged.
In the series of ten race all sailors are allowed to discard their worst race, prior to this race Alison's worst result was an 11th, she will now have to count that result as the DSQ for this race will now be her worst result.
She should remain in fifth place over all but it means she has less leeway with her final races.
Big waves and quite light winds here... Irelands Annalise Murphy is doing well in the top ten.
This is a tough fleet, very very competitive... China's Lilly Xu is leading. A lovely girl, I met her a few days ago.
