Olympics Day 8
First topic message reminder :
Just trying to get my breath back. THREE GOLDS yesterday, taking our total to 8. We sit 4th in the table, and with any good fortune should take 3rd today on Super Saturday.......will the cyclists, rowers, Mo and Jess make it a golden one?

I agree with you Thomond fully mate. I believe you should always support your local side no matter how bad or good they are

Gonna be honest mate- I do know and it shouldnt bother you.
If you want to blame anyone - you cant expect a chance to the mass population views- The country has to just give them what they want!

Well thankfully I follow one of the btter sides Olly, only one side aroudn here but as a shareholder nothing like seeing your club go out on a Friday night at a home under lights. We've had some great nights and great players over the years and those are special memories. Bear in mind I'm a young lad too.
Oakey, if you know more about LOI and Irish football then me, a guy who lives in Ireland I will be very surprised.

Oakey, if you know more about LOI football then me, I will buy you 5 rounds.
My team (Norwich) are obviously bigger than your side, but it is great. I really enjoyed the League 1 season, because you went away, you felt part of it. You got to speak to players after the game, they weren't primadonnas. Not like in the Prem where you have to get through about 3 rounds of security to get a glimpse of them

Cork City, freek. Oakey, it's not just that they don't support the local side it's a whole variety of things that lead to Ireland struggling as a nation in soccer. A few people support a number of sides and I don't mind that ( I suppose I have an affiliation with Leeds) it's mainly that the League of Ireland struggles while Irish fans are called great. We're feicing awful!

I think your missing the point dude. I am not discussing your specific issues with people and football in ireland- I am trying to explain to you that its fine for them to support anyone they want- i dont agree with that way of thinking- but it isnt worth bothering about. However if ireland had a higher standard of league then you would naturally have alot more local support- That is the thing you should be concentrating on-rather than expecting people to think the way you do in the current climate

Good stuff Thom. I have massive respect for anyone willing to get involved with their local team, on whatever level.
The game would be a poorer place without your like.

A lot of our problems are to do with the fact that people don't and won'r support the local sides, no matter how good they are. You need the fans to getin to improve the league. The FAI are useless and that's part of the problem, they don't care about the league but there are a lot of problems in Irish football/soccer

Ah mate. I feel well bad for your boys at the minute. I was saying on another thread how good the atmosphere was at Fratton when I went a few years ago. Proper club that and I hope you turn things around.

Re: Olympics Day 8
It's the local pro side but thanks Freek. Great thing to be involed in it some great time. We won the 1st division title last year (got screwed over by a previous owner which led to fans taking over the club) in a Man City style which will go down as one of my greatest nights ever, never mind in a sporting context.
Some great players (Kevin Doyle, Dave Meyler and Shane Long to name a few) down through the years and some great days, it's what sport is all about

Obviously being a Norwich fan I have great memories of playing at Pompey. Quite frankly some of your players are disgusting, totally selfish. Some fair play to em, have cut there losses and gone, but some fail to see the wider picture

Re: Olympics Day 8
This country has exactly the same problems locally if you think about it though. Where do we draw the
line with local support- Are people from croydon out of order for
supporting crystal palace- Shouldnt they actually be supporting croydon!
However they dont even support palace do they they all support chelsea!
Its a flaming mindfield.
Also the fact that these local teams(non league) dont get enough local support means that the bigger clubs just buy players abroad because the smaller clubs dont have the finacing to develop the local talent
In a way our non league is exactly the same as the irish league- and faces exactly the same problems! because lets be honest the prem is an international league- there is no reason why it even needs to be in England!

Well the talent in the LOI is better than Non-League but yes similar issues with them and L2 clubs.

I have been to a lot of matches in my life, the best 3 for me were, Pompey at Anfield in 81, actually, I can't give 3, I would have to miss out Northampton or Plymouth or West Brom. or etc.
And now I may have no team.

Re: Olympics Day 8
Intersting chat though, Oakey. LOI has some great players, it's getting people in is the problem. I suppose "hate" is a strong word for what I was trying to express but it leaves me with a bit of a dislike for the premiership considering what my club have gone through and what LOI clubs havew gone through or will go through in the future.
It wans't my only reason for the dislike of team GB footballers though. I don't think they should have played with out the backing of the other associations.
