You'd have been better off buying 12,000,000 lottery tickets.

Tiote, Anita & Colback offer nothing offensively, so at least he gives us a threat going forward. Still question his attitude, but if he can get back to his early season form, which got him in the England squad, then he can be a good addition. Townsend has also stated that he would prefer a move to St James', so again a good move, as we need a winger to provide for Mitrovic. If we can add Remy on loan towards the end of the window on loan, then I will be satisfied.

Its a good move if you ignore that Townsend isnt very good.

Re: January Transfer Window 2016
Well that's your opinion. It's January & we're in the bottom three, so bringing in two England internationals is pretty decent business. I'd rather go down this route, than continually bringing in more Ligue 1 players, who would need time to adapt. We've never replaced Cabaye & Shelvey provides good range of passing & shooting ability, while Townsend is hungry to prove himself & we need a winger with pace & good shooting ability, to provide, where Thauvin hasn't.

Re: January Transfer Window 2016
Can't argue with that, given Newcastle's position. You just have to compare them to their rivals, Villa are gone, Sunderland have signed an unproven German defender & they've weakened Swansea, by taking Shelvey.

Re: January Transfer Window 2016
£12m is more than I'd want to spend on Shelvey, but it's good business for both teams. Swansea now have good money to strengthen where they need and Newcastle have a midfielder who can pass.
Townsend is a great fit for the Toon. He's clearly Premier League standard.

Not too happy with Caulker, which is completed now, but he is a better fifth choice centre back than either Enrique or Ilori, so that's a plus.

Agree, but we're selling Tiote for £8m to those mugs in China, so it's good business. Ashley wouldn't have it any other way.

I don't think its bad business to be honest.
And hopefully more to come..a proven goalscorer and real commanding centre back.

Just reading Liverpool are set to get £3.6 million from Shelvey's sale to Newcastle. Wonder what they'll squander it on.......

Could be worse could re-sign Rickie Lambert for more then you sold. That being said with your pressing game thought you would go after Shane Long, He runs all day

never really been a big fan of shelvey, but having seen the state of Newcastles midfield i still think its a upgrade on what they have. he'll be more willing to help out in the dogfight of a relegation battle than some random french player would

Why do people not rate Townsend? I think he will provide more of a threat going forward, and will provide crosses for Mitrovic, which he is crying out for.

Re: January Transfer Window 2016
Apart from the fact he's done very well on the international stage, has electric pace & actually has shooting ability, unlike the vast majority of wingers. When he scored that cracking goal past Buffon, showed what he can offer, not really sure what the hate for Andros is on this forum, but then, it's just a forum, so not really worth much in reality.
As for Newcastle, Mitrovic was signed as a target man & Thauvin to create for him. Townsend has great pace, unlike Thauvin & has already proved himself to be dangerous in this league. Dolphin rates Townsend as a good acquisition for Newcastle & so would I. People claiming he's rubbish are, in truth, championship fans, who probably just remember him from his days of being loaned out & have stuck with that outdated view.

LA Galaxy have bid for Joleon Lescott & offered him a three year deal. Obafemi Martins has stated he's received an offer from Aston Villa to join the club.
Sunderland have approached Swansea, to try & sign Andre Ayew. Highly doubt that will be allowed.

Lescott would be worth keeping, don't think we will sign more than 1,2 players this window.
Not heard about Martens.
Garde saying he has a list of players, but not publicly saying who.
Says he has the backing of the board, so we will see.

Can't believe the reaction to signing Townsend. Better winger than any of their current rivals have.
Quite annoyed that Toon will have a couple new players for tomorrow, but happy Townsend hasn't gone through.

Sorry but a couple long strikes aren't convincing me Andros Townsend is any good. He wasn't good at QPR, not good at Spurs, don't see why that's suddenly gonna change at Newcastle

If you think a couple long shots is all they'll get with Townsend then you're just not watching football, rather just picking at unfashionable names

Townsend isn't great but this is a relegation battle he's signing up for.
Getting any pl player for £12 million is fine in the current financial climate imo.

Townsend is better than Obertan/Thauvin by miles. The electric pace out-wide alone, will be something that side needs & he will only enhance the game of Mitrovic, as he's been crying out for width & aerial balls into the box. As for stating he did nothing at QPR, is so far from the truth. Think you might of been watching Championship football a couple of years, let me think.....yes you were, so you missed it. Townsend produced the best form of his career while on loan at Loftus Road under Redknapp, hence why Tottenham didn't sell him & wanted him back. That form also got him into the England squad, whereby he was instrumental in helping us qualify for the WC.
Overall, Newcastle have signed two England internationals, when in a relegation fight. That's the perspective you need to understand, so that's good business, especially when you compare the business of their rivals.
