Seydou Doumbia has joined Newcastle. I doubt the Saido move will happen now. I'd be amazed if Mitrovic, Perez, Wijnaldum, Cisse & Doumbia couldnt fire us to safety, with the added creativity of JS & AT

Be interesting to see how Doumbia does.
Is Newcastle's lack of goals really the issue though John, You defend like my U13 side

Re: January Transfer Window 2016
Motivated Doumbia could be a real kickstarter for Newcastle up front. Interesting that they have thrown most of their efforts up that end of the pitch though.
Bilic wanted Emenike and he is who we got. No one else this window. I would have rather Doumbia, but so far Bilic has been right about every player he has signaled as important so i'll trust him.

Re: January Transfer Window 2016
What are you on about. If we were atrocious at defending, do you think we would be losing our games by only 1 goal? I think not, that is not the issue & you don't support Newcastle so clearly have no idea what our real issue is. We've been playing well, just can't hit a barn door, hence added creativity & new strikers have been targeted.
Lost to Watford 2-1 by one goal (Mitrovic missing loads)
Beat West Ham 2-1
Drew with United 3-3 ( always going to concede when chasing game)
Lost to WBA 1-0 again by one goal (we were better side/ Mitrovic awful)
Lost to Arsenal 1-0 again by one goal ( we were better side Mitrovic/ Wijnaldum awful)
Lost to Everton 1-0 ( we're better side Mitrovic awful misses)
Drew with Villa 1-1 ( strikers missed sitters Mitrovic / Perez)
Beat Spurs 2-1
Beat Liverpool 2-0

Only Norwich & Sunderland have conceded more then Newcastle. If that doesn't tell you need defenders nothing will

West Brom are saying that Berahino picked up a slight knock in training this morning but is available for selection ahead of tomorrow's game at home to Swansea.

Doubt Saido will go anywhere, Peace thinks we can still achieve in the region of £20m next summer, with a year left on his deal. Not so sure. Debuchy to Bordeaux isn't it? Aiden McGeady joins Sheffield Wednesday. Pretty slow day for the transfer window, can't see much happening to excite anyone really.

Those in Turkey are supposedly joking that Emineke will fail his medical, because West Ham will discover he doesn't have a brain - not very promising!

Notoriously harsh fans. Same was being said in a different way about Yilmaz once we were linked. If you leave they just slur you. On top of that, Emenike does not have good relations with the fans there, demanded to be subbed twice due to abuse. Bilic wanted him based on his time managing against Emenike, and the guy was in serious consideration at Chelsea and Spurs a year or so ago. Loan with no risk basically, especially as Carroll and Sakho are both back within the week. Could be 4th choice.

Rhodes to Middlesbrough back on again; delighted to hear that however I pray the contract terms have been reduced drastically if the numbers reported yesterday were true. 9million up front with 4million in promotion clauses then when factoring in wages & player bonuses over the 4 years the fee was around 30 million...double our revenue lay year!

haha 'the bull' is possibly returning. was fantastic for us, then he went to liverpool & he looked like a league two player. i'd definitely take him, if he's fit, seeing as haidara/dummett are injured

Re: January Transfer Window 2016
Agreed Olly; he would certainly fire us to promotion and with the to deal in place next year some would argue that alone would be worth the outlay. Big risk to take though should we be plying out trade in the championship next year as it would absolutely cripple us....although at 24/25 we could probably sell him on for similar if not more down the road.
Been a very slow day that's for sure and when you consider over a billion pound has been spent this year it's staggering to think there's so few stand out players in those deals who have set the world alight.

Re: January Transfer Window 2016
That was the stumbling block the bonuses and add-ons Rhodes agents wanted, £35000 a week and a bonus if promoted was what we offered, don't mess with Steve Gibson or you come off 2nd best.owen10ozzy wrote:Rhodes to Middlesbrough back on again; delighted to hear that however I pray the contract terms have been reduced drastically if the numbers reported yesterday were true. 9million up front with 4million in promotion clauses then when factoring in wages & player bonuses over the 4 years the fee was around 30 million...double our revenue lay year!

Jenkinson's loan has been cancelled, so Arsenal are picking up the wages again. Apparently if the player and club agree then it doesn't matter what the parent club say, and Carl felt it was the right thing to do based on how West Ham have treated him. Nice touch, hope it works out for him long term

The next Patrick Vieira, but seeing as it didn't work out at Porto & he's ended up at Stoke, suggests he's probably at the same kind of level as a Cheick Tiote. Not quite sure how he's worth £18m after his failed stint in Portugal.

Re: January Transfer Window 2016
Remy can probably book his summer holidays now, doubtful to make the Euro squad now.
As for Everton, I don't get it. Club has little money or so it's always reported, yet he's blown £13m+ on a half decent striker who, from I've read, is quite clumsy, not worth the fee & nowhere near the level of Romelu. Central midfield has been crying out to be upgraded, Barry & Cleverley are bang, bang, bang average. Don't get it.

If that was the case, surely bang out a deal for Saido right now. Spend £25m now, recoup £40m from Lukuku sale?

Re: January Transfer Window 2016
Pretty happy with the dealings of Shelvey, Townsend & Doumbia. Not quite sure what Swansea have done, to breed any confidence of avoiding the drop. Sunderland have the shocking Kirchhoff & the unknown Kone & Khazri, while Norwich have done reasonable business with Naismith & Bamford. Bournemouth have done nothing impressive really, just acquired Afobe really.
I'd say we've done considerably better than our rivals during the window, but now it's time to step up & start performing.

I don't often feel the need to defend my club but here goes. Barry is far from bang, bang, bang average. He looked like he may have been declining slightly last season but this season he has been much improved and been a consistent 7-8/10 player. Cleverley hasn't really played in CM for us, he's been used in the left sided attacking position behind Lukaku. And done pretty well may I say, even though I was against signing him.
McCarthy, Besic and Gibson are the other CM's and I think along with an in form Barry that is far from bang average myself. McCarthy and Barry are both good and Besic is showing some real promise, injuries aside. Gibson as fourth choice back up, not bad at all imo.
