Its 3 million up front and the rest in installment vs nothing for the next 18 months and taking your chances at tribunal on a player that hasnt played in 2 years.
This makes 0 sense financially anymore.

I get the point. And Spurs waited till so late to make an actual offer. From what I know there has been no offer this window.
Swansea sign Paloschi. West Brom sign Sandro on loan.

Loan confirmed. Happy with that, should fit our style better than Palace's
Naismith and Bamford in, Grabban and Hooper out for a profit. Tidy business.

Re: January Transfer Window 2016
I can see why Peace is dragging his heals, Berahino moving to Spurs I could understand as it's a progressive move to a team chasing European football but Newcastle is a bit sideways.

Re: January Transfer Window 2016
WBA to Newcastle is not a sideways step. We're showing ambition & financial power to be progressive & it could be the start of an exciting project, going away from foreign talent, to producing a young, exciting english side. Doesn't take much to go from relegation, to chasing Europe.
Not sure about Doumbia coming though

That seven point gap would suggest otherwise John, all well and good buying all this young English talent but if you go down they won't stick around.

Re: January Transfer Window 2016
Blinkered to judge Newcastle on the league position, massive club compared to WBA. £21m up front, that'll do nicely & we can all move on. Newcastle's project looks far more exciting, that staying at WBA. Definitely a progressive move for Saido, now needs to score goals to showcase he's good enough for a genuine top 4 side.

Pretty much a comment of pure jealousy. You get the god awful Bamford, while Newcastle might get Saido.

So making a comment of WBA/Newcastle somehow links to Norwich how?

Re: January Transfer Window 2016
I think Berahino would relish playing for Newcastle.
Big club. Big stadium. Big fan base.
Think Townsend will do well.
For the record I would think Newcastle will stay up
It does make me laugh when fans think they are experts and "know" how a player will do at a new club.
This player will do rubbish etc.
Only time will tell on that.

21m for a player the manager doesnt want to reinvest in one he does would excite me. I don't really get rejecting that unless he thinks he can squeeze Newcastle over the next 24 hours

Appears Boro have pulled out at the last minute for Jordan Rhodes.
Would have been a huge shame to see him leave, but Lambert could have used that money to improve the squad overall and make us more competitive in the area's that need reinforcing.
I wonder if someone else will come in for him now with deadline day looking...

He was someone we were linked with.
Also Christian Santos from Nijmegan. Not heard of him, so had a look on wiki, his goalscoring record is decent.
Would take him, although our postition and the direction we are heading would put anyone off, so will be very surprised if we sign anyone by 11pm tomorrow.

Agree on sideways step. West Brom have as much potential in the short term as Newcastle, although Newcastle are throwing money around. And I don't think they've done it like before, I see no sell on value in Shelvey and Townsend. Berahino is someone I would like at West Ham.
Again though, West Brom have no time to sign a replacement so I would reject that from Newcastle

That's a good point to be honest Dolph, all West Brom would be doing is strengthening a rival without doing so themselves, bit short sided to just look at the transfer fee when staying up is worth so much more.

Its 20m for a player you arent even playing. Newcastle are desperate to avoid the drop, in the summer you wont get that for a player with 12 months to run. Focussing solely on Newcastle is very small time.

Re: January Transfer Window 2016
I don't even support Newcastle, but disagree on the sideways step. Stupid to look at the league table in deciding what classifies a sideways step, fairly obvious that Newcastle are a bigger club than WBA & will pay considerably higher wages than us. Newcastle have the financial power, we don't, they got the stadium, we don't, if Newcastle get things right, their longer term outlook is far brighter than ours. We're basically a 'making up the numbers' club, with no real ambition, to do anything other than finish 17th or above.
As for Shelvey, he is 23 & Townsend is 24, their not 28 or 29. If they're successful at that club, both remain in the England setup, its puzzling how you see no sell on value for those two. £12m nowadays is peanuts. Once the new Tv deal sets in, things will elevate even higher in terms of fees & wages.
I don't care even selling to Newcastle really. Bag the £21m for a player we haven't been playing & build for the future, although Pulis will no doubt waste it. Newcastle, a bigger club, sign Wijnaldum types, we will focus on Sandro types. That's the difference in club size, never a sideways step.

Don't understand these bids so late on the window - gives the seller no time to reinvest the cash.

Tottenham will no doubt be looking at all this and weighing up a bid themselves, that is the move he should hold out for and the only move West Brom should entertain.

Re: January Transfer Window 2016
Surprised we have pulled out of the Rhodes deal; player is saying everything was agreed while club holds a different account as to why it has pulled the plug. Would like to know exactly why the move hasn't happened.
I'm hoping it's a case of us having lined up a move for someone else who is perhaps cheaper but if that isn't the case then it's a baffling move and one which I fear may cost us automatic promotion..unless we get a proven goal scorer in then we will fade away down the stretch. Rhodes ticked all the boxes...don't see to many others who do and would be on the way instead of him.

Indeed you are, but right now you are better than them and your short term potential, surely all that Saido cares about, is probably better than Newcastle's. They could go down, and are not likely to go significantly higher in the table than West Brom next year. Sure, Toon are bigger, but that means little when moving there probably stalls his career for a while, whereas holding on could see him move to a much better club.
As for those two, do you see them going anywhere big? I don't. Neither of those two are going back to Liverpool or Tottenham heights, so where's the sell on? And the other point makes no sense, the economy of it means that you have to compare the prices within the market not the literal money. In 5 years they could move on for £20m and it won't be £8m profit, it'll be a consideration of what the money represents in the market.
Bigger club and career progression are not quite the same thing. I don't think a move to Newcastle would be worth the hassle.

Can't recall anyone in recent times having a few good years at Newcastle before moving onto bigger and better things.
As passionate as the fans are, they are a fairly volatile club on the pitch and flirt with relegation all to often.
Saying that, playing regularly would be a good career move for berahino.

What?
Loic Remy banged goals at st James' went to Chelsea
Yohan Cabaye ran the show at st James' & went to PSG
Demba Ba banged goals at st James ' & went to chelsea
Even Jonathan Woodgate went to Real Madrid from Newcastle
Andy Carroll banged goals for Newcastle went to Liverpool
Bigger things indeed, not Newcastle's fault those players didn't succeed in making those moves. Newcastle would be a great step for Saido. If he goes to Spurs, he sits behind Kane or plays outwide & out of position, that's a career stalling move. At Stoke, he would be the main man too.

Re: January Transfer Window 2016
Is it though? You're below them and you can't say that prospects in the short term (which Saido clearly would be most interested in) are better than at West Brom.

Re: January Transfer Window 2016
Alex Pritchard coming to Albion on loan for rest of the season, medical in the morning. Maybe me putting 2+2 together, but I see this as smoothing the way for Berahino to Spurs, which I'd prefer to Newcastle(rival at the bottom of the table) and Stoke(cos I don't like them)
Could be a busy day for us surprisingly. Berahino obviously, Chester to Swansea on loan with a view to a permanent being spoke about, Anichebe attracting interest from a few championship clubs(loan).

Remy was on loan from qpr, cabaye lasted a year at psg and is now at palace. Wood gate was 12 years ago and his time at madrid wasn't exactly a success and it was around the time madrid signed the likes of Thomas gravesen. Everyone knows the Carroll move was madness.

not sure you can argue better things in that list, bigger certainly but pretty much all of them flopped badly. think people read too much into the "big" club thing. means absolutely nothing if you cant do it on the pitch. we had city before the owners going on about being a big club while in the second division. just like leeds now. big stadium with fans doesn't mean your a big club

Jelavic to China. Stoke have pulled out of Berahino & have bid for Michy Batshuayi. Leicester should really stump up the £23m for Musa. Imagine going for the title & ending up signing Dwight Gayle
