The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Gibbo's Ma and Brad Thorn above the bar!

Very sad news about Jock Hobbs (now he was an under rated player)
LUCKY - he played 21 tests for the AB's in the early to mid 80's and was head of the NZRU bid to get the RWC 2011

Cari, Tuck up and keep warm. You will be fine for next week.
Sad news about Hobbs. As Asbo says though, probably a release for him.

Ah it wasnt that quick Rav. Its been on the boiler a while.
Nice gaff. 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, city centre, good location, one of the few good quality apartments in Limerick. Underground car park, 10 minutes walk from Thomond Park, overlooking the riverfront.
Nice place. MrsP, Notch et al will get to see it.

Morning all.
Very sad news about Jock Hobbs - a very good openside in the early 80s, scored a try to win a test vs the 83 Lions, and was made captain in 1984 after just 2 years as an AB. Had concussion not forced him into retirement we might not have seen Michael Jones star in the 1987 RWC.
He moved into rugby administration at the same time as his Canterbury team mate and brother-in-law Robbie Deans moved into coaching, and in 1995 he was pivotal in convincing the All Blacks RWC squad to sign professional contracts with the NZRU despite the team having already reached an understanding with the Kerry Packer backed World Rugby Corporation (In the late 70's Packer managed to turn international cricket on its head by signing all the major international players to his World Series Cricket and popularised one-day matches).
Sidelined by NZRU politics in the late 90s he emerged to pick up the pieces after the 2003 RWC hosting debacle forced much of the NZRU's top management to fall on their swords. He was a key player in securing New Zealand the hosting rights to the 2011 tournament, and it's fitting that he got to see the All Blacks win it.

Congrats on the new pad Staggy. Sounds tidy.

Linebreaker - I'm heading to Amsterdam next week to see Gibbo and I think we're meeting up with Billy at some point.

Hi folks,
Rava seen the Portrush/Portstewart makeover got the green light. Congratulations
Stag you couldn't give a few tips of places to visit in Limerick and pubs etc.? Will be down on the Saturday and Sunday for the QF and wouldn't mind catching the other HEC games? Cheers.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
forgive me my little offload but I really need to get this all out of my head.
Right for the last couple of years I haven't been fully happy living in Cardiff. I hate my job, most of my friends have moved away so it's been fairly, well not rubbish, but not as good as it could be. I'm basically bored out of my brain.
So every now and then I get really itchy feet and want to move away but I never know where to go.
I can't go home, because I can't drive, and even if I could, I couldn't afford a car, living at home would drive me nuts etc etc.
I got a text this morning from my lettings agency stating they'd be getting in touch fairly soon to get me to re-sign my contract. Thing is if I do that, I'll be stuck here for another year, and I got such a sinking feeling at that, that I really think perhaps now is the right time for me to move.
But then I think of how nice my flat is, and how easy it is to get home or to go and watch the Scarlets. I wouldn't be able to do that if I moved away. Plus if I did move away it would be to England most probably, and I don't half get homesick sometimes, so I don't know if that's a good idea or not.
I just don't know what to do. I'm all confused and just a bit about everything.
Sorry again to dump it in here.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
dreamer, sorry to butt in but I've been in the same boat recently.
Last year was really unhappy and wanted to move but couldn't really do it because of my mortgage. Hated work and felt really stuck in a rut with everything.
Basically I'm still in the same position but a wee bit happier about things as a couple of opportunities heve come up which I want to see to fruition, so I'm happy(ish) enough.... for now.
Its a difficult one because the grass always seem greener.. but then you don't want life to pass you by. Sometimes you just need a new challenge rather than location.
What I'd say is, at 24(?), you have loads of time either way so don't get stressed. Do what makes you happy and things usually fall into place.

Dreamer,
If the job you are in is making you unhappy then now is definately the time to spread your wings. A few years down the line things start to get complicated so do it now!

been feeling like this off and on for a year or so now, tis whether or not I feel fed up for long enough to actually do something about it!
Although, I reckon Stag and Asbo are on the right track, might need to give PyS a ring...

1 change to the Ireland side for this weekend SOB back in. England are a side high on confidence. I'm worried.
Dreamer don't worry you ain't alone. I'm 3 years behind you. On the off chance you find the answer could you PM it to me?

You stay where you are Willy, Lisburn is where its at...
Dreamer step 1, get away for a while, take a holiday or weekend away somewhere if you can, some time of work. Even better go travelling if you can.
It will help you think clearer and get a bit of perspective.

Rodders - I have been taking weekends away! Doesn't help really. I just don't know what I want to do.
Willy - don't worry I will. I wouldn't be keeping that much of an eye on your inbox though if I were you....
Am more a bit worried that I'll have to make a decision in the next few weeks really. Don't want to leave my flat mate hanging if I suddenly decide to up sticks nearer May time, will leave him next to no time finding someone new to move in then see.
Bah. Think a long phone call to my Mam may be happening this evening.

Willy, England struggled against Italy, scraped past Scotland and beat France by 2 points. Played some good rugby but France were pretty poor. They can be optimistic - why not? - but confidence could be dangerous.

Well thats the first step dreamer, maybe you could get away for a bit longer even away travelling? You might find other places aren't what they are cracked up to be? Or maybe you will find somewhere you feel you belong and you have your answer?
If thats not possible, try writing down all the reasons you want to stay in Cardiff and all the reasons you want to leave. If one list is much longer then things will become a bit clearer.
Anyways everyone is different, so good luck with it and trust your instincts. Don't stress too much about it.

Cheers rodders.
Travelling is probs not the best option for me (really not a fan of it)
Might do that list thing. I had to do the same thing when I left Aberystwyth (now there's somewhere I'd love to live again! If only there were jobs...). Was drunk when I did that one though, so might have to try and do this one sober

Last bit of advice, if its your job then you could always register to do a course? Going back to study, even part time or distance learning, could really give you a lift as you work towards doing something you enjoy?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Dreamer –what rodders said about the ‘grass seems to be greener’. The job is one thing, friends another all together. Firstly think of where you would enjoy moving to. If it is just the people at the location where you are working that is the problem, can you get a transfer to another location with your current employer?
If it is the job itself that that is the problem then you must have a job lined up wherever you want to move to. You would also need to make sure that wherever that is has good rail links to places you might want to get to. This almost certainly means a city or decent sized town. The location may even have a Scarlets supporters association
If you are missing your friends, then where have they moved to, and how are they getting on?
But most of all –speak to your folks

Puma, speaking words of wisdom.
Dreamer,
Your inner-self wants to change your Life around and take a chance. Your conditioning and all you know in your young life - keeps you in the boring comfort-zone. My advice? Get the feic out now and test it. If you dont like it, you always know where Home is. If you do.... you will NEVER look back with regret. Try it for a year at least.
Nowt to lose and all to gain. Be brave and reap the answers and rewards. Or indeed, even more educated questions if & when you do break free. How will you know unless you try? All experience is good experience. It helps you make the right life-choices.
And the answer may well be to go back to Cardiff and do something completely different. Thats also cool. At least you will know.
Stag is a great example. He tried it and loved it. It will make it far easier for him to do so again. Hugs also did it. Either way, your prespective changes forever. All good.

Dreamer - You could start with ditching your job - you don't have to move away or change your career (assuming you're not sure what to do), just change your working environment. I think that would help to start with. Good luck with whatever you decide to do anyway.

Dreamer, the idea highlighted is one of the best things you can do perthshire.
Look into teaching English in countries like Japan or China. Not a great deal of money to be had (well in Japan maybe) but you do live a comfortable life and get to see other parts of the world.
Holland is also a great place to come and get away from the world for a year (longer if your like Gibbo and myself) and there is enough work here.
Sometimes you just have to take the bull by the horns and see where it takes you. 1 year working around Australia is also a great option

So Billy, offer the a lady a job.
She's as bright as a button and is open to change. Thats obvious.
Seriously Dreamer, Nederland is a great place to start.
I only came here for a weekend.
In 1986.
Been all over since mind. You just need to take that 1st step...
A 6-month contract is ideal.
