The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Gibbo's Ma and Brad Thorn above the bar!

There are loads of jobs out there however more often than not they require a wide set of skills - multiple languages, computer specialist etc. Or they are badly paid jobs like fast food, cleaning etc.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
What I meant was that people were making it sound like it's a doddle to find and get a new, better, more fulfilling job. That's just not true in my experience.

Dont need Dutch. Thats the beauty of it. All other countries you need the local language. Not here. Of course it helps and widens your options. But, there are enough decent and specific English-speaking jobs to satisfy most needs. Its an advantage not a hinderence.

I think I'd agree with everything everyone else has said Dreamer.
What I would add is that it's tough not being close to your parents but the way things are nowadays you can keep in contact with them well enough through so many different avenues. The other point would be that things like getting to Scarlets games might just not be as important anymore as you find more substantial things to get involved in. Not that you don't care anymore just that wherever you go, you might find something that is closer to you that you can get more involved in yourself.

6 Nations player of the tournament shortlist...
Cuthbert, Warburton, Lydiate, Philips, Malzieu, Maestri, Harinodoquy, Parisse, Sexton, Ryan, Denton, Rennie.
Whilst all are fine players I am not sure how there are 5 from sidse who have only won 50% of their matches and 3 from sides that have won 0, yet no Englishmen, despite us having won 3 from 4 and being sat in second.

Ozzie , you can have a good team without any stand out stars. That would be my perception of England at the minute in any case.

Aye, that is true, but equally it is easier to shine in a losing team. I barely noticed Maestri was playing on Sunday, Ryan has started 1 game.
For England to have won 3 away games someone has to have played well enough to be on the shortlist surely.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Ozzy - Guess that means England are more of a team performance, whilst some of the other nations have more stand out individuals?
And cheers for all the advice folks
Not sure I'm ready to go really far abroad. I had enough issues with just managing to go to Uni and moving to Cardiff, so really don't think I'd be ready to move beyond the UK, don't really have an interest in leaving the UK either at the moment if I'm honest.
Going to chat with one of my best mates. She's down in the Diff this weekend from London so will see what advice she can give me as well
And I'm with Lucky on this with the whole new job thing. I've been trying for over a year to get another job, there's nothing out there (or at least not anywhere remotely in the Cardiff vicinity). And I can't just up and leave somewhere really without having a job on the other end of it.
Also Rodders - cheers for the further advice, but I'm already doing a course two evenings a week, and have just finished another course with work, so I am doing things like that!

Harinodoquy?!! He's been pretty gash IMHO. Not even the best France back-row... and Maestri? Who's he?
Chin up Dreamer, wherever you go you're only a keyboard away from the pawb and we all care.
I feel pretty certain you'll see the light if you just give it chance, can you delay on the new lease for a while?
I'm sure they can't just kick you out if you're paying the rent.

Just been advised that the list is based on who won the man of the match awards, hence Harinordoquy being on there having been given man of the match against England.

Madness, how Ferris is not on the list is beyond me. 3 massive performances and 1 ok one.
Ryan has only started one game. O'Connell would be a better call.
The biggest omission of the lot is Rob Kearney.

Thats the truth right there. Basically all (large) buisness' language is English. Its a massive boost if you can speak English without a Dutch twang here in Holland and most companies will provide you with training for you. The mainland is completely different to the UK or Ireland.
Translation jobs pay very well here, for instance and the basic skills you need is simple Office and the ability to speak English.

diolch
and nah I can delay all I like for signing, I just don't want to leave my current flat mate only 3 weeks or so to find someone else to move in, otherwise the agency can easily let 2 other random people sign for it instead, and then he'd be without somewhere to stay. That would be a rubbish thing to do.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
It's amusing, it's such a flawed system. Only players who have won man of the match are listed.
Irelands best players in this tournament have been Rob Kearney and Stephen Ferris. I find it exceptionally amusing neither is listed.

It's a shocking system. You just need to have 1 good game in 5 to get on the list, and if everyone has done the same you are in with a shout of player of the tournament.

In the quite perplexing and typically French manner - maybe they were worried they'd get a slap off his dad if they didn't?

So,
Well Bikkies, that's because Ryan put in a MOTM performance as opposed to Sexton who didn't!
Simples!
Seriously though, what a totally daft system.
Kearney is the stand-out omission from that list of course (now that I've removed the Ulster specs) but I reckon Fez should be there too.

Ah Bikkies!
I think Sexton was given MOTM indeed but I really don't think it was a MOTM performance. I think at the time most of us agreed that Kearney or Ferris was more deserving.
Were none of the English players given MOTM awards in any of their games?

This year, I have been fortunate enough to have seen three AIL Div 2 games. I can comfortably say they are the most entertaining I have watched all season.
Is this just a coincidence do you feel or is top level rugby just not as enjoyable to watch?

Whats important to bear in mind Munsty is that with your brother playing you will have been extremely emotionally invested in the match.
I enjoy matches most when I have a connection to one particular team. e.g. I preferred Ireland v Scotland to the much tighter France v England game even though it was less dramatic.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
True, but in each of the games I've watched there has been much less inhibition shown and much greater willingness to play some rugby and not be tied in.
I think you can testify to that with the first game we watched in bad conditions and the way it was won.

Thats very true but Im not sure its any different to say the likes Munster v Saints, Castres v Munster, England v Wales, Ireland v Wales, France v England, Montpellier v Leinster, Connacht v Harlequins, France v Ireland.
Thats just games that I have seen this year. I have no doubt there are more that have gone right down to wire but both sides battling away trying to win.
I've certainly been thoroughly entertained this year - games are very tight with a lot at stake. Most 6 Nations matches have been decided by less than a score.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Ah but it's not just about games being closed. It's the attitude games are played in that I'm concerned with. Probably why I always got up early to watch Super Rugby and ITM Cup.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I find many Super 15 teams one dimensional. Just as you can be boring in stuffing it up the jumper so too can it be boring to just throw around a ball.
The most entertaining teams can do both like the Stormers or Toulouse.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I think what I admire is the their aim and ambition. I don't mind pick and drive but stuffing it up the jumper with no idea why you're doing it is just awful and really does go against the principles of the game.
By the way, I think this is going to be the song of the year. Please listen if you can-

I'll check song out later.
Munsty - I think doing anything with no idea why is just awful and that includes chucking it around the backs for the sake of it.
The most entertaining teams know exactly how to attack and defend. Throwing it wide and hoping for the best is no more ambitious than stuffing it up the jumper and hoping for the best.
Sevens was invented for that. Rugby is a diverse game and the most entertaining teams can mix and match and you never know what to expect. Sometimes its a Super 15 team other times its a French team or an Irish or English team. All leagues though have some boring teams.

All leagues do and I won't dispute that but I really do feel those teams are much more prevalent up here and especially those types of games.
