The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Belfast
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat. The pub has ventured to Belfast, as Red Stag is still struggling to come to terms with Munsters QF loss to Ulster
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Brian McLaughlin, John Hart, Duncan Bell, Michael Lynagh, Mick O'Driscoll, Deiniol Jones and Shane Williams.
Get well "Noddy" Lynagh - our thoughts are with you.

I don't think the English clubs were too bothered by thew Europa league but that's another debate.
If you don't think Roy Keane was good then you're a moron. The Dutch knew about him in 2001 anyway.
Woooo! Touched that Cork nerve have I bud? He was a knacker. An obnoxious running-machine with no skill. A man who's only skill was attempting to break peoples legs and laugh about it.
Really despise him. He walked away from his country in their hour of need. He never comes back from that.

Without getting into the Saipan debate ( I wouldn't have done it but someone needed to take a stand against the FAI, the players are a lot better off for it and have admitted that). Watch the 99 CL semi final second leg against Juve, the 02 world cup qualifiers against Portugal and Holland in Lansdowne and tell me he has no skill. Like John Giles (or similar from what little I have seen) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WMuCelpK-dk&feature=relmfu

Roy Keane - OK footballer, nasty person. (chucks cat amongst pigeons)
Gibbo, had to disconnect all Av stuff when the contractors installed woodburner - I got it all to work previously by a process of random and totally unscientific scart allocation, sooner or later I will achieve the status quo ante.
Am cheering myself up by watching Eng v Ire 2006 - heh, heh. Love it.

John Giles was hard. Very hard. But he was a far more skilfull player than Keane could ever even dream to be. Brady was better again.
NOT on a WUM. I cant even stand to see a picture of him. When he speaks... I want to puke.
BTW. Have to say, I cheered from the rooftops when he scared the Poopie out of Ned in 2001 and won us the game. I just loved winding the oh so self-superior Clog football fans up then. Ive grown up since. Ive seen the Light. A leetle bit...
Just my feeling ja?
Love you btw. Your knowledge of Sport is superlative...

Fair enough, I can understand where you're coming from. He mighn't have been incrdibly skillful but there is no denying he wasn't a great player. I haven't seen many players win so many games single-handedly including Messi/Ronaldo et al. He could be skillful when he wanted to be and he bossed games. That's what makes a great midfielder, in that era when you only had 2 in the middle in particular.
There is a reason he is the only Irish player to have made the FIFA top 100 players list (was an all time list made in 2004)

T. Just looking at the highlights of the 2 x CL SF's. How did Bayern not win that by 3 or 4? And how did CFC actually survive not getting beat by the same score? Unreal.
Cant see past a Barca v Bayern Final after that.
Bayern will play in their own stadium too.

I'm with you Thomond. Roy Keane was an awesome footballer, one of the best midfielders of his generation, maybe the best.
Balls to Saipan he gave Irish sport a monumental kick up the arse the same way Simon Geoghegan and Keith Wood did before him and Brian O'Driscoll did after. A giant amongst ants. The man is a feicin legend .

Wasn't there a musical written about the Saipan thing? Called I, Keano if I remember correctly.
Yeah, google reveals I was right. It was a mock Roman tragedy send up of the Saipan incident about a Roman legion preparing for a war. Featuring Keano as the legions greatest warrior and their General, Macartacus.

Highlights on Scrum V aye
Watching the first two School of Hard Knocks now. Mrs L watched it while I was away and is now a massive fan of it. She particularly loves "The big Welsh guy" (Scott Quinnell) and his speeches.

He gives good speech!
I remember rewatching the HC final from last year and at half time Quinnell and Greenwood are pitch side giving their view on things. Lazenby asks the lads what would they say to each of the teams if they were in the dressing rooms right now, Quinnell (taking the Leinster dressing room) gives a hairs on the back of the neck epic speech, nearly brought a tear to my eye, then Greenwood (taking the NH dressing room) says “ehhhh, just keep doing what you’re doing…???”
The camera goes back to the studio, awkward silence and dead air time for a couple of seconds, then Lazenby just says “I know which dressing room I’d rather be in!”

On an unrelated topic, I went to a dog training class yesterday (the first session was just for the owners). It was a good session, but I had to stifle a laugh when the trainer said, 'I've got a bowl of dog food here, which I'll come into in a minute.' That would have been deeply inappropriate.

Ah, the old commuter crush. I read 4 of them in the papers this morning.
Ha, Lucky that would have made me cough laugh right into the trainers face. I'm bad at stifling laughter, particularly when someone who's very serious inadvertantly drops a bit of innuendo.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Belfast
Have any of you ever seen the documentary called Derek Tastes of Earwax? I know the title is very odd, and i suppose the documentary is too, it's about a medical condition called synaesthesia, here's the jist of it, defo worth checking out:
Aired in 2004 Imagine if every time you saw someone called Derek you got a strong taste of earwax in your mouth. It happens to James Wannerton, who runs a pub. Derek is one of his regulars. Another regular's name gives him the taste of wet nappies. For some puzzling reason, James's sense of sound and taste are intermingled. Dorothy Latham sees words as colours. Whenever she reads a black and white text, she sees each letter tinged in the shade of her own multi-coloured alphabet - even though she knows the reality of the text is black and white. Spoken words have an even stranger effect. She sees them, spelled out letter by letter, on a colourful tickertape in front of her head. Both James and Dorothy have a mysterious condition called synaesthesia, in which their senses have become linked. For years scientists dismissed it, putting it in the same category as séances and spoon-bending. But now, synaesthesia is sparking a revolution in our understanding of the human mind. They think Jimi Hendrix had synaesthesia. When he was in the studio he would say things like, 'I want the guitar to sound yellow'. Some people have it naturally but it's one of the effects of LSD and psilocybin. So I've been told.

I think Brian Wilson from the Beach Boys had it too. although that was probably the LSD too.

I read Brian Wilson's autobiography last year, it's such a sad story. It became sadder when I listened to the Smile Sessions album and got an idea of how phenomenal that album would have sounded.
